WR Darnell Mooney, ATL (1 Viewer)

I tabbed him in dynasty earlier this year (not this football year) as somebody to hold and watch because

a) I had some questionable bench players
b) there's a fifth and fourth-year bounce with guys that are stuck in awful situations that get new teams with explosive attacks. They're not necessarily the greatest, but they're pretty good and if they find themselves in a good situation (I was able to get a second for Corey Davis years ago due to this) they can produce.

I almost had Darnell in the game Thursday night. 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1DEF. Aiyuk, Rashee Rice, and Malik Nabers are my top three. Now Rice is hurt and Nabers isn't playing, which is fine, but I wish I had known. Still went with McLaurin, Aiyuk, and Dontayvion Wicks over Mooney.
I got Mooney in my auction but cut him after Week 1 because I had so many injuries at RB and the Atlanta offense looked hapless. He stayed on the wire (10-team league) and I picked him back up this week because I now had so many injuries at WR. I played him because I had to. But going forward I expect to play him most weeks.
I kinda figured the offense would have a slow start, but week 1 was exceptionally poor.

Week 2 started that way but as the game progressed the offense started looking better. from the offense has been a little better until this week when it really took off.

caught me a bit by surprise as tampa is supposed to have a pretty good D but I was happy to see it.

Anyone have an idea of whom Patrick Surtain is going to cover this week between London and Mooney?

No inside information, but if he shadows one, it would have to be London, you’d think.
I've taken a look and this secondary has shut down all the WR from sub par offenses. but good offenses still can get yardage, but considerably less than normal.

Tampa has the Best group of WR i think these guys faced and Godwin put up mediocre numbers while Evans was more or less shut down. Hopkins put up I think around 55 yards last week, Hunt and kelce about 60 yards each. while they didnt shut down the offense, the KC offense was definitely a lesser version of itself.

I fully acknowledge, I dont know that they've had to deal with a WR group this deep.

London and Mooney wide. Ray Ray in the slot, Mixon at RB and Pitts at TE

but this group hasnt been able to light up some lesser defenses. and given how good the Denver secondary is, I could see them trying to pound the ball on the ground this game.

Joe Mixon would eat if he was on ATL.. But yes I agree could be a good game for the RB duo in ATL

all I know is a lot of the games against this secondary the leading WR was not the #1 WR on the team. it was usually the #2 or #3 or one of the RB (if my memory is correct) double check to make sure I'm not misleading you as I have not double checked but I did look a day or two ago and noted that the #1 was usually shut down or got WR2 numbers against this D.

based on this Mooney or Ray Ray may actually be the better play.

one thing I noticed about the atlanta offense..... between the 20's Mooney seems to do better. in the Red zone, London is targetted more. so it is possible Surtain covers Mooney between the 20's and London in the red zone. Though talent wise I actually like London better so if I was the coach I'd just have him covering London if I was the DC.

Atlanta Homies any news on Mooney?
Practice?
Limited?
Full?
Injury designation?
Google is your friend. From the Falcons wire -
Wide receiver Darnell Mooney was limited for the second day in a row due to an Achilles injury.

Mooney was not given an official game status, meaning he’s likely good to go for Sunday’s matchup in Denver.

D. Orlando Ledbetter
#Falcons Wide receiver Darnell Mooney is dealing with the QB change.
“It’s been different,” Mooney said today. “A lack of chemistry. I’ve never caught a ball from him until like this week. Just something that we have to adapt to and be a pro.”

He's only 27, has jets, and has no significant injury history. No reason he can't keep doing what he's doing or even get better over the next 1-2 years. A nice little undervalued fantasy asset. Not bad for a guy who could have practically been had for free last year.

He's a great bye week filler / in case of emergency break glass type player. You gloss over him every time you look at your roster until you absolutely need to start him, then you're glad he's there.
Agree and happy you didn't say he's a must start
Bye week filler, he's perfect or if you have a major injury he can stop the bleeding temporarily, good observations

I have him in as my WR4 in a start 3 WR league. I like him there. Of course I have other higher-upside WRs on the bench behind him, as we all likely do.
