WR Davante Adams, LAR (2 Viewers)

I've seen a couple of articles lately that called Adams a future HOFer. Do people see that as the case, given the backlog of WRs waiting for induction? As things stand now, Adams' career numbers are in line with folks like Roddy White and Keenan McCardell in terms of receptions and yardage (Davante has more TD). His HOF Monitor score at PFR has him ranked as the 60th best WR. He'll be 31 later in the season and is on a 112-1282-7 pace this year. I hadn't ever thought that Adams was a lock HOFer or had a HOF worthy resume so far. I wouldn't say he won't be a HOFer some day, but IMO his career isn't over with, and he has a lot of ground to cover to get to become a HOF candidate. He currently needs 250+ receptions, 4,000+ yards, and 10 TD to rank in the all-time Top 10 in any of those categories. IMO, if he didn't play another down, he wouldn't get in. What do the masses have to say?

Both Roddy White and Adams are among the best I’ve ever seen play the position. The numbers might tell a different story, but they both pass the eye test.

9, 8, 20, 13 hurt shoulder in second half, 4 injured shoulder played through it but felt like a decoy of sorts and went down before contact, 5, 12.

Single digit targets in over 50% of his games this year for what has been arguably the best WR in the league for years. Yes that’s a problem. Needs to be 12/13+ every single game.

Agree. But, of course, he is going to play plenty more downs barring catastrophe. It seems reasonable to expect he will finish his career in the top 20 in receptions and receiving yards and top 10 in receiving TDs. He has 3 1st Team All Pro selections, and only 17 other WRs in history have that many, ignoring special teams selections.

If I had to bet right now on whether or not he will ultimately make it, I would bet yes.

I would vote AB in the Hall over Adams. I mean we will see what Adams does but AB's run of being the clear best WR in football for 6 straight years is truly rare.

Adams was 1/6 last night.

On the interception it was good coverage by S Kerby Joseph.

The rest of his targets all came against Cam Sutton, Detroit's #1 CB. He was 1/5 for 11 yards, BUT interestingly Sutton had the worst PFF coverage grade on the team - only 29.6. That's bc Adams was open on all four passes over 20 yards and Jimmy didn't come within a country mile of hitting him.

It's kind of hard to call some of the passes Garoppalo throws in his general direction as "targets". They looked like North Korea lobbing missiles into the sea.

I’m struggling to think of a current NFL QB who doesn’t complete that pass, or even miss by that much.

I don't think in a general sense many people were buying and the few that were just were not paying. Only one Ryan Poles in the league.

I think they'd have had to pay for someone to take Renfrow. Jacobs probably only would net a day three pick.

Excluding Crosby I think Adams is the one guy teams would have paid something tangible to get. Would have made football sense but that's where you get into off the field stuff. I think that's the most expensive ticket in the NFL in a city with a lot of entertainment options. Need a marquee. Need to try and be somewhat relevant.

And not for nothing but they are 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. Not that I believe they'll make it, but they can stretch it out a little longer.

I remember when Emmit Smith said he last year in Dallas he felt he was a diamond surrounded by trash. I struggle to think of two players that fit that description more then Adams and Crosby right now.

I see enough buzz to feel like the question should be asked, would the son of Al Davis do something like this?
When you hear other players that have taken shots at the Raiders in recent years, does it give you pause?

I read a similar article on CBS about a week ago. There was no source, or "proof." It was offered as a "what if this was happening?"

I think it's highly unlikely that this would be happening today, but what do I know? You'd have to have a coach willing to neglect to use his best player (putting his team at risk of losing, and putting his job at stake). You'd also have to have other players being silent about the plan (Jimmy G is going to be told not to throw it to #17 & he's not going to say anything?), and Davis would have to be willing to pay Adams $65M guaranteed while not letting him get targets, to what? "Show him who's boss?"

This is the article. It's from prior to this past weekend's 12 targets (MOP's post was after), and if you read the article, you'd see it's utter speculation from the writer - there is no inside sourcing or anything even remotely close. Just the guy slinging **** at a wall, which the MOP turned into "word on the streets is".

I can see a world where Aidan O'Connell forces 15 targets a game to Adams. It fits with the Raiders way.
