WR DeVante Parker, Retired (3 Viewers)

As a Dolphins fan.....I hate this. He has proven nothing.
Really?  He finally has put together a WR1 type season.  This is not a lot of money in the crazy world of the NFL right now. Its what he would get on the open market.  I think we have our WR1 locked up now.  Right decision in my opinion.  Fins heading in the right direction for the first time since I was starting to count how many new pubes popped up the prior evening.

I think its a smart move by the Dolphins.  The cap is set to go up 8-13M in 2020.  It will be about 200M annually.

Its pretty clear this team will have a young new QB next year, and having experienced WRs to throw to will help tremendously in his development.

The downside risk in 20M over 2 years.  Upside is that maybe he just wasn't mature enough early in his career and had some bad coaching to boot.

Agreed.  I am tired of players leaving Miami only for the light to go "on" after they're gone.  This seems like an instance where the player has matured (there were multiple reports early in his career about bad eating habits, not taking care of his body, etc) that now when he has put it together (and been what, WR 6 down the stretch overall) that we let him go and blow up in another town. we are keeping our own for #2 money at a moment when we are flush with cash.  Fins have spent this year evaluating talent that 1) Buys into Flo's system and 2) may have a role on this team.  All the turnover has let to a few gems, and Parker is on eof them.

Has he been cleared to play on Sunday?
He’s traveling with the team today, so it’s looking like he will be playing tomorrow (got the traveling news from Pat Leonard).

Not liking the ‘windy’ weather report for the MIA vs. NYG game, though, which is sustained winds around 20mph, guests could be 30 or more (according to Kevin Roth). Hopefully it isn’t as windy as what is being said online when the game begins.

I though Gesecki was gonna be cut next year, based on what he did last year with Gase, and very early this year. I think the coaches are better this year. And obviously Fitzpatrick is better than anyone thought he'd be; he's one of the best at avoiding sacks, while still looking to pass. O'Shea was a good hire by Flores.

Good for him. Glad he finally broke out. Makes you wonder how much of the problem was Adam Gase. He had guys like Tannehill, Parker, Drake, and even Landry in the dog house at times. But I also think that Tannehill naturally preferred a guy like Landry, while a guy like Fitzpatrick is so aggressive (throwing into tight windows and double/triple coverage), that he's going to inflate the stats of a guy like Parker.

I hope DeVante stays healthy though.

Also, I hope a guy like Kevin White can look at what DeVante did this season and latch onto a team again soon. But I heard he had a rod put in his leg after the first and/or 2nd leg fracture, and that's never a good thing.

Me neither. Unfortunately I have to choose between Fitzmagic or Wentz as my QB. Leaning Fitzy as I think we'll see a lot of short passes to Laird or Fitzy simply taking off and running. The Giants D is atrocious.

One thing that Fitz has going for him is he has played in these conditions before, so it shouldn't affect him.  Laird and Gesecki should also be good plays.

Rotoworld:

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker cleared the concussion protocol and will suit up Sunday against the Giants.

Both Parker and Albert Wilson are good to go for Sunday. Parker is the PPR WR22 on the season and should be in starting lineups against the Giants' mediocre secondary. Overall, each of DeAndre Baker, Grant Haley and Corey Ballentine rank outside of PFF's top-100 CBs among 131 qualified corners this season.

Any restrictions when they clear protocol? Play with confidence? I can’t have an able body decoy. I want to go against that secondary though

There shouldn't be.

Its not like a hamstring or something that can easily be hurt again and lead to the decoy situation.

The NFL takes concussions to seriously for these to be such a risk, that is what the protocol is for.

It would take another big hit to cause another concussion for him to leave the game from the same thing. I have heard that players who have a concussion are higher risk of having another one. There are some players who have had two concussions so far this season. Having two in a small window of time is bad and those players tend to get shut down then.

DeVante Parker caught 4-of-7 targets for 72 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins' Week 15 loss to the Giants.

Parker's breakout season continues on. He pulled in a Ryan Fitzpatrick strike over the middle for a 20-yard touchdown early in the game and made a terrific contested-catch grab for touchdown No. 2 deep into lovely garbage time. Parker now has eight touchdowns on the season and may reach 1,000 yards next week against the Bengals. He'll be on the WR1/2 borderline then.

He's been great with Fitzpatrick. If the Dolphins play a rookie QB next year, Parker could be a huge disappointment. Notice that he's been catching a lot of contested balls from a QB with a gunslinger mentality who has good touch and WR/DB anticipation.

Disagree. 5 years. First time he stayed healthy all year......and this production only started happening after Preston left the lineup. He IMO is high risk and I still would have made him play again next season and make sure it was no fluke. So yeah.....really.

This is what makes me so apprehensive about the front office. 20 years of incompetence in drafting and throwing money away. Proceed with caution. I have sen this play out over and over and over for 20 years and running.

Devante Parker WR1? Come on man. Prove it for a few years. You let Jarvis Landry who proved it every year....walk. But you resign a guy who has been nothing but a bum for 4 of his lat 5 years?

Awful. And incompetent. I have little faith in this front office. Like......almost none.

Hope I am wrong......but I am calling this a flash in the pan season. I have zero faith in him.

Parker was doing well with Preston in the lineup.
Not as good until he went out. But yeah he is having a very nice season. Finally.

Look if you guys want to go ga ga over a good season after 4 garbage seasons. Great. I saw a bum for 4 years. If he has turned it around....awesome. I would not dole out 10MM a year to that kind of track record. To me that is throwing out good money on a very shaky track record. If he outplays the contract then great. It will prove to be a wise move.

It is simply my opinion that this will not be the case in the end. If it is....then my favorite team made a great decision. Which is something they have ben just awful at. And this current front office’s draft track record has also been....craptastic.

Didn't he average something like 8 yards per on 90 or so receptions one year in Miami? So he's  the Larry Centers of WRs.
4 Straight Pro Bowls 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, set the record for most catches, that's kind of Hall of Fame level type of work with 100 years of the NFL in the books...

3x replacement Pro-Bowler (an important distinction), 0 All-Pro, 10.9 yards per catch.

HoF? I'll take that bet.

ETA: I understand you were not calling him an HoFer, I disagree that his production over his first 4 seasons is HoF caliber.

Nobody was all that good with our coaching disasters.  Look at Drake, Tannehill, and now Parker playing with not Adam Gase as thier coach. This staff seems competent, and they get to see him every day.  They know who they just extented, and its not like they are waving extensions around.  They cleaned house on players they did not feel fit what they were seeking...and they extended Parker.  And look what he is doing every week.   Light goes on sometimes for players.  Look at Davante Adams first few seasons.   I got him and a 3 for Sammie Coates a few years ago, and it was a fair deal at the time.

Look forward...not backward.

Oh believe me. I want to look forward. I still have zero trust in Parker. And I have plenty of trust in Flores....but not Grier.

Let’s see what happens. I want them to be great more than anyone. But you can understand how skeptical I am. I have been a Fins fan since 1975. Believe me......I am dying for them to be relevant again. I hope it works out.

So......more importantly.....what are the chances the Bengals beat us and then the Browns in week 17 at Cincy. dare I say I feel really good they will win two in a row? And we will absolutely lose two in a row? And all of a sudden we got Burrow!!!

DeVante Parker caught 5-of-15 targets for 111 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 16 win over the Bengals.

Parker and Ryan Fitzpatrick left a lot of production on the field -- 10 of his targets went incomplete -- but you'll hear no complaints from those with Parker in fantasy. The breakout stud caught his ninth touchdown of the season on a slant route in the red zone and went over 1,000 yards for the first time of his career. Since Preston Williams was put on injured reserve, Parker has been a WR1 in fantasy. He'll need to be downgraded in Week 17 against the Patriots, however.

Seems like a top 10 wr next year although there is QB uncertainty
An understatement, IMO. He did not have really good games with Rosen at the helm. His aDOT was huge, but his catch rate and other things were unimpressive. That's why a lot of people went with The Unicorn as their (Miami's) WR1 to own -- because he was being treated like it up until his injury.

That's not to assert that Williams is better or that Parker can't be a Top Ten guy; he certainly looked the part when just looking at him as a football player. But Fitzmagic, an unsettled RB situation resulting in chucking it around the field, etc.? I don't think you can anoint him that lofty a position yet. He was still on waiver wires long after his own teammates in really competitive leagues.

All good points. Top 10 prob too high. Still feel pretty good about him going into next year but will have to see how things develop

He is the WR 10 overall in my league this year (non-ppr, yardage bonuses), and he played on what was an abysmal offense for a first quarter of the season.  I think he is very clearly a mid-high end WR2 at worst in 2020, with the potential to be a WR1.  I think you need to start looking past his first 4 seasons at this point, and look at what we are seeing on the field.  He looks like a stud on the football field.  He is posting WR1 numbers in an offense that nobody will argue is a good NFL offense.  His QB is a 37 year old journeyman who has played well, but he is what he is.  Its not like he has Peyton Manning in his prime out there making his WR all look like HOFers.  It may be Fitz again next year.  Unless Rosen or someone else beats him out in camp, which honestly would be great.  Rosen had most of this year to sit and watch a super-smart QB make it work behind a miserable OL with no NFL RBs on the roster.  Hopefully he learned, and maybe his top-10 draft potential will show through and pay off with what will hopefully be an improved supporting cast next season.

Parker seems like a very safe WR2-type with big time upside in 2020.

I owned Parker and loved his production. But it was as much about opportunity as anything. Will they have Fitz throwing to him. Will they have zero running game. Will the defense be as bad. Will they always be in catch up mode. Has some skills but environment was good for FF production. So won’t overdraft next year. All factors will be weighed.

Fitz has been good, and he likes to throw up 50/50 balls which Parker seems to flourish on...but lets not pretend that Fitz is some sort of difference maker to WRs.  Having a running game will lead to more offense, more first downs, more scoring, more potential points for Parker.  The defense will improve which will take away some opportunity, but so will the OL which will give the QB more time to find WRs downfield.

I dont see anything changing in Miami next year that would make me downgrade the WRs there, aside from injury.

Obviously way too early, but anybody have an idea of what his exit value may be after this run?  Own both him and Preston as WR3s.

Right now Parker is WR 13 in PPR scoring leagues.

So I would say you should be able to get WR two value for him in trade. I wouldn't sell him for less than this (I dont have Paker on any team anymore). I am not a buyer of Parker unless it is WR 4 type price.

Its irrational on my part perhaps but as a Parker truther earlier in his career and several bust years for me because of believing in him I don't want him anymore. He is 27 years old in January and it is hard for me to see him maintaining his performance moving forward.

I am okay with being wrong about that for the next 3 or 4 years as I think I can find other WR twos and threes who will not cause me as much of a headache.

Tend to agree.  I acquired him in 2 different dynasty leagues 3 seasons ago for 1st rounders after buying into offseason hype.  Continued to hold and pray - and now that the shine's back on him, would love to get out and maybe get an ROI out of it.

Since week 7 only Michael Thomas has more points
I will go on record as a flash in the pan season in an otherwise awful career until this season. There are so many other WR's I rather own then going through this headache.

One season does not make a career. I have seen this movie before a zillion times. And the Dolphins will again show why they have been a craptastic front office by extending him yet again to 10MM per when they already had a prove it deal done earlier this year before the season started. Prove it means do it two seasons in a row.

I am highly skeptical he can maintain himself. And if he does....fantastic. As a Dolphins fan would love nothing more. But from a FF perspective. I will let another owner enjoy this highly potential headache next season when he comes up lame every other week with some ailment.

I’d be selling high as well. I think the light clearly did come on for Parker, but even if they have a favorable QB situation, I can’t see him nearly as much of a target monster with Preston Williams also returning.
