But how will he rank among the Philadelphia Eagles? Did you confuse him with Waddle? Will finish a distant 3rd behind Parker and Fuller in receiving yards, you can back the truck up on that one.

I think the connection is that all 3 with Waddle have a lower ADP presently. It all depends on how you see Tua vs. Hurts. Tua has 3 mouths to feed and Hurts has Smith along side Fulgham and Reagor. But how will he rank among the Philadelphia Eagles? Did you confuse him with Waddle?
Smith will outpace Waddle for sureBut how will he rank among the Philadelphia Eagles? Did you confuse him with Waddle?
Why do you think that? Smith has to step in and be the #1 immediately, Waddle will have a more complete offense and a QB who supposedly handpicked him.Smith will outpace Waddle for sure
smith is better than waddle. Smith will get more targets than waddle. Smith is better than waddle. Why do you think that? Smith has to step in and be the #1 immediately, Waddle will have a more complete offense and a QB who supposedly handpicked him.
I'm not sure Smith > Waddle but I definitely like Smith in his situation better than Waddle in his.smith is better than waddle. Smith will get more targets than waddle. Smith is better than waddle.
Despite the incredibly compelling argument you've mounted and data you've compiled. I am going to disagree. Jaylen Waddle's film pops. Explosion, speed, route running all better than Smith's. I think Waddle is in a better situation than Smith, as I think more highly of the Dolphins current organization than Philly's. Smith is a good looking receiver but Waddle is incredibly gifted athletically and that can't go unnoticed. The guy has the talent to take every play to the house with his athleticism and speed.smith is better than waddle. Smith will get more targets than waddle. Smith is better than waddle.
Same. Not sure which WR is more talented but Smith should receive a greater number of targets. That is assuming that the other WRs in Miami are healthy all season.I'm not sure Smith > Waddle but I definitely like Smith in his situation better than Waddle in his.
I just don't see any data to support this. They are in near identical situations with the exception that Jalen Reagor may be a bust, but Will Fuller has never finished a full season. I don't see how the opportunities aren't there for Waddle to perform. Mike Clay's rankings have Tua throwing more passes for more yards than Jalen Hurts - so, I just don't see the opportunity/situation argument either.Same. I'm no fan but DeVante Parker is another target siphon in Miami. So having Parker and Fuller as options is much more of a barrier than just Jalen Reagor.I just don't see any data to support this. "Siphon" is a bit strong, his career average is well below 100 per season and he's averaging 115 for the past two years. Fuller has a single season above 75 targets.I'm no fan but DeVante Parker is another target siphon in Miami. So having Parker and Fuller as options is much more of a barrier than just Jalen Reagor.
It seems we talk out of both sides of our mouth with the Miami offense. Tua lacks arm strength, but we think he is going to push the ball downfield to a one dimensional deep threat like Will Fuller or DeVante Parker is suddenly going to command 100+ targets, but logic says - Jaylen Waddle is going to catch a lot of drag, slants and intermediate routes. If you value Waddle as the purer athlete, which I do, there is no reason he shouldn't be the leader in targets, catches and I think he is going to be a YAC beast with his speed and twitchiness.Smith will be the Eagles' #1 target in short order.
I thought the same thing about Ruggs last year.It seems we talk out of both sides of our mouth with the Miami offense. I agree with this assessment. Ertz returning (maybe?) to the Eagles could possibly impact things, of course. But I don't see a scenario where Waddle's target share isn't greatly impacted by Parker/Fuller. Especially when comparing what Smith would be competing against. Sirianni's going to use his Heisman trophy winning X receiver and has a recent template in T.Y. Hilton.Neither Fuller nor Parker are great, but together they are almost certainly going to command a larger share of targets than Jalen Reagor. Actually, I'd think either one of those guys would individually each get more targets than Reagor; combined it's even worse for Waddle.
Mike Clay has Smith and Waddle separated by a total of 8 targets.Neither Fuller nor Parker are great, but together they are almost certainly going to command a larger share of targets than Jalen Reagor. Well I think Mike Clay is wrong.Mike Clay has Smith and Waddle separated by a total of 8 targets.
He has the combination of Fuller/Parker and Reagor/Goedert separated by a total of 9 targets.
It's just one man's opinion, but when you're talking about opportunity and strength of the offenses it's spiderman-pointing.gif.
I agree with you. It's also hard to overstate how bad Reagor was last year. Maybe he gets it together in Year 2 but nothing from last year seems to support that. I believe Fuller/Parker/Preston/Gesicki/Gaskin is more competition than Reagor/Fulgham/Goedert/Ertz/Sanders, even if the Dolphins throw more, which I'm sure they will.Andy Dufresne said:I'm no fan but DeVante Parker is another target siphon in Miami. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Eagles WR DeVonta Smith will miss 2-3 weeks with an MCL injury.
Smith on Monday was listed as "week to week" after an MRI revealed a sprained knee. The 2-3 week timeframe would mean Smith will miss most or all of the preseason, though he should be OK for Week 1. The rookie will miss valuable camp time with Jalen Hurts, whose starting receivers without Smith will be Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham, and Greg Ward. Hurts reportedly connected with Reagor on a deep pass during Monday's training camp practice. Adjust the ranks.

Asked about WR DeVonta Smith’s impact, #Eagles coach Nick Sirianni retold a conversation with passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo, who spent past three seasons with Colts told him: “We didn’t have this speed in Indy.”
Sirianni says team wants to get Smith many reps still.
Sold their soul to win a Superb OwlWhy cant the Eagles have nice things?
DeVonta Smith caught 6-of-8 targets for 71 yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia's Week 1 win over the Falcons.
The touchdown was a nice little loft ball by Jalen Hurts with a rub concept to open Smith up by veteran Zach Ertz. Smith showcased the skill that made him the Heisman Trophy winner and cashed on the WR3/4 line, taking the team lead in targets. The volume should be there to support a WR3 role in Week 2 against San Francisco, at least as long as Hurts is able to stay in the pocket against that front seven.

The whole offense suxks right now. The atl game seems like an aborationI don't know if that first week was a chimera or the Philly offense has become thoroughly dysfunctional, but I don't like what I'm seeing tonight.
ETA: Haven't really been paying attention, but how much has Diggs been shadowing him tonight? It occurred to me after he broke up Smith's last target that that could be a factor as well
Was that supposed to be "aberration" or "abortion"? Because either way, I agreeThe whole offense suxks right now. The atl game seems like an aboration

DeVonta Smith caught 3-of-6 targets for 28 yards in the Eagles' Week 3 loss to the Cowboys.
Smith's six targets were third on the team, but his 28 yards were tied for sixth. The rookie's most notable play was one where he slipped on his route as Dallas CB Trevon Diggs picked off the pass and took it the other way for a touchdown. Smith now has five catches for 42 scoreless yards the last two weeks on 13 targets after his 6-71-1 opener. Smith will look to get right next week in a soft matchup with the Kansas City secondary.

DeVonta Smith caught 7-of-10 targets for 122 yards in Week 4 against the Chiefs.
The Eagles fed Smith targets early, with five of his catches and 84 of his yards coming in the first half. Smith was the focal point of the offense as the Eagles ran it just 11 times. This was Smith's best game since his 6/71/1 line in Week 1. With the Eagles going extremely pass heavy the last two weeks, Smith's ROS outlook is pointing up.
