WR Dontayvion Wicks, GB (4 Viewers)

If a true alpha does emerge from the team, I am purposely trying to not pick a guy, because then I start twisting what is going on to what I want the outcome to be.

Everyone here is sooooo young. Kraft or Musgrave could turn into a top target, develop into a stud TE, hurting their volume.

Look at Nico Collins. This time last year, no one thought he was a lock for WR1. 4 weeks into this year, and what does everyone think? He's the man. Whatever else Diggs/Tank do, he's the man. That's the betting favorite for that role, in that offense.

All these WRs are the same age or younger, than Collins was last year. Watson is the same age, and he's the only guy I am pretty sure is not a 150 target guy.

One year from now, it should not surprise anyone if Doubs, Reed, or Wicks is seen as the alpha. If I had to bet on someone, it may be Doubs at this point, but I own all three, in one form or another.

It’s Reed

This is all wrong. He drew a DPI in the end zone and dropped one ball. The other two were defended and he slipped. Beware paying attention to this information.
I watched all of his targets and Love threw a few balls right on the carpet and this kid almost came up with two of them for catches. He had one wide open drop that likely would have been a stroll into the end zone. He could have easily wound up with 3 TDs.

I believe you've quoted a post by @rockaction from week 1. Agree that Wicks could easily have had 3 td's this past week but for a bad drop.

he also had another hit him right in the chest in the end zone iirc

Honestly one of the worst looking 2-td games I’ve watched but the opportunity looks juicy

Gimme Doubs all day and twice on Sunday...

I believe Matt Harmon said Doubs is solid but nothing special in his analysis.

When Wicks is on the field he has a 24% target share to Doubs 16%. In last 6 games without Watson, Wicks has an avg 12.5 ppr points. Plus he leads Packers in red zone and end zone targets.

4/50
3/62
1/18
4/39

what am i missing?
I'm guessing he missed getting Wicks.
Nah, I have both. Me just being snarky and sarcastic. I guess I just have more of a comfort level with Doubs in a starting role, although I have started both (we have large starting rosters, can go up to 5 WRs) and have enjoyed the production. (y)
Thanks for reply, I was really just trying to make a joke.

But the case against Doubs is he was already playing almost every snap. So in theory the only thing he gains by Watson being out is picking up any possible targets he gains by Watson being out, and he'll have to contend with Wicks for those and it was not a huge pie to be split up.

He's solid, but just the tiniest uptick IMO.

yep, I get it

Maybe we are thinking about the drops too much b/c, it sure seems Jordan Love doesn't care, right? This guy barely plays all year and the minute he gets significant playing time its like Love was waiting for him to get out there all season and peppers him with 13 targets. If he keeps it up to a point its so bad, it won't matter b/c the coaches will bench him. But as long as he is out there, to me, he has high WR2 potential every week.

Hype and potential is real. Clean up the drops...
JLove, throw better passes.
I love Wicks upside but he's dropping balls right in his hands. He needs to fix that.
3 of those drops were because Love threw the ball in the dirt .. Wicks looked like a shortstop trying to scoop up a ground ball for crying out loud.
If a pass isn't catchable it's just a target and incomplete, not a drop. It's not just the two drops he had last week. He didn't finish on a couple other incompletes and was 0-for-3 on contested catches. Love plays a role in that too, but Wicks has a lot of room to grow and improve.

Packers HC Matt LaFleur on Dontayvion Wicks:

"I'm excited about him and what he can become because we can all see the talent. He's tough to guard on the line of scrimmage. I know what he's capable of doing. We just got to get it out on a consistent basis."

More possible reasons to get excited but Doubs out of practice today for personal reasons and availability for this week tbd day by day.

Impressive stats, but these kind of numbers tend to seem incomplete for me. I always wonder about the quality of the competition. Is Wicks going against starting CBs or against nickel CBs and safeties? Especially since he just made the cutoff with only 28 opportunities. It would be great to know how many of those were against starting CBs.

Not to derail the topic...but Olave being a close 2nd is impressive. I doubt he's being covered by backups a lot, and have to imagine he has more opportunities.

When they went 12 personnel was he in over Reed after Watson left?
*Crickets* Anybody know?
After Watson’s injury, Wicks took over as the starting wide receiver opposite Doubs. Wicks rarely left the field. Bo Melton became the primary backup wide receiver. This had a minor impact on Doubs’ playing time and had no impact on Jayden Reed’s playing time. Reed continues to play only in three-receiver sets and has yet to play in a two-wide receiver set this season.

Thank you for the information. This is very important to know. Wicks has an opportunity here to be a positive game changer for us. Christian Watson may be Wally Pipped.

I don't know exact numbers but he only has lined up in the slot on 33% of his snaps so I'd imagine he's seeing a heavy does of starting CB's.

This right here has all those stats if you'd like to pay. It breaks down percentage of snaps by formation, down, distance, etc. it's a great tool but it's like $100 for a year.

The author Dwain “The Rock” McFarland is one of the best in the business.

Dontayvion Wicks led the Packers WR group in average separation score and yards per route run as a rookie

This year, his A.S.S. is 15th-best among all WR (0.19)

Immediately earned 31% of the first reads targets last week without Watson (Doubs/Reed: 19%)

Just good at the game
