WR Gabriel Davis, Free Agent (1 Viewer)

My local redraft league has a draft tonight using ESPN, and I was more than a little annoyed to see ESPN auto-rank G Davis #49. Basically everyone is going to see him as best available from that point on. So much for capitalizing on value.
This happens in the high stakes leagues as well. They sort by ranking by default, but many drafters sort by ADP. And that means you get a snowball effect - drafters scroll down and see Davis only a few names down on the list, and reach for him, disregarding that other positions aren't included. The more it happens, the earlier he goes.

Home leagues you have a bunch of folks with paper. My league is about 60-40 draft software to paper, but most draft software is pulling ADP from multiple sources, as compared to the HS leagues that pull ADP from their own drafts.

It's a flaw for sure.

judging by all the green stripes on this page, it seems someone continues to obsessively mention me. And is apparently calling me stupid. Weird.
I wouldnt call them stupid. I would call them lucky
I would say I absolutely got very lucky, as
1. he almost went 5.04,
2. he made it back to me in the 6th. But at the time (the 5th round) I had 3 WR on my team (rounds 1, 3, & 4) and I wasn't going to pass on AJ Dillon for a 4th WR, since ADJ was one of my favorite targets.
3. It's an IDP league, so in round 5 people start taking IDP-ers. It's a lot easier to miss a value pick at a position like WR when there are 7 high scoring positions as opposed to D/ST teams where there's only 4 skill positions to watch (and QB & TE don't really have that many options to distract folks from)

It worked out great. But if I'd taken a TE with one of my first 4 picks and needed a WR3, I absolutely would have taken him at 5.05 instead of 6.08

But it was indeed lucky.

You keep calling people obsessive but do the same thing in the Watson thread and other threads that you tell people you'll quote them later in the year. Yikes.

And it was Jobarules that called you stupid, not me. But hey, keep 'obsessing over me' :bored:

And as I said, smart drafters dont let him slip to the 6th.
Hmmm... So according to you, @Hot Sauce Guy @C-Bound @VikingFrog @[Icon] @Insein @TVT 0 N S T A are all stupid drafters for letting him slip into the 6th. Got it.

Luck is the collision of preparation and opportunity!

But, I drafted Jeudy in the 4th, so I don’t mind being called stupid.

********. Youre the one tagging people. Apparently this has been a thing with you all along. Ill move on.

lol well you did say the Jeudy pick was a mistake and done out of panic.
But yes, you getting Gabe in the 6th, after his ADP, was great. I got him after ADP too and I'm sure we are both glad we didn't reach :)

Yes, I tagged the people that you called stupid for letting him slide into the 6th. Just take accountability for your aggressive words, yikes, triggered much?

If Jeudy becomes THE WR1.

We are not going to call it a mistake. We are going to call it LUCKY.

@Rams, TN, @Mia, @bal, PIT, @KC

Not exactly a cream puff schedule to start the season, most of those teams have 1 and 2 guys that are lock down types, he won't just be roaming free on every play.

And countdown until we read posts with folks complaining in the middle of live games how he's not being targeted enough.

He does have an elite QB and and elite WR lining up across from him.

Congrats, you found James Lofton(Bills Era) or Alvin Harper or any numerous second fiddles in high octane offenses. It's possible he vaults over 1,000 yds and 10 TD, longer season, more opp to eclipse them.

Few will admit it, but I suspect those who are willing to take him ahead of what already seems like a lofty ADP for a #2 WR on his own team are quietly imagining him being the 1B or even eclipsing Diggs this year as the 1A. For me at least, I can close my eyes, sniff some glue and easily imagine that upside.

Cheers, and welcome to the wonder of annual fantasy hype players. Sometimes they turn into Arian Foster. Sometimes they turn into Deshaun Foster. But they are the funnest part of this game, IMO. Join the ride with us. Or don't.

I'm not going to overdraft a guy on a hunch. It's literally the crux of fantasy mediocrity. I missed on Davis and was absolutely on my radar in the 5th and 6th (took Zeke and Brandin Cooks instead). Zeke in the 5th was crazy value and Cooks was a low floor WR that I felt my team needed with Waddle already selected 4th round.

I try not to get too fixated on a specific player, where I lose sight of value staring at me. Is Gabe Davis better than Cooks? Possibly, but Cooks seemed like a safe starter and if Zeke wasn't there, I was fully ready to go Cooks, Davis at the turn...

Not a knock on Davis as he has tremendous upside but I just had players valued higher and felt I could afford risks in different rounds (or took risks in rounds prior). Hell, I took Adams 2.01 because I just don't see the 100 point swing from his valuation and past production...

With that said, I really think we should sit back and say the flag has been planted on Gabriel Davis and he could be a league winning WR that I didn't get... but everyone is different and that's what makes the league/hobby fun.

ETA: I am not one to chase perceived value and I still very much think Diggs is "the guy" in Buffalo. I'll chase upside in Round 8 and beyond, but I basically want my starters keyed in prior to chasing upside.

Just the way I draft... not indicative on the player Davis could be, because we are still waiting for kickoff.

I consider it a greater than zero possibility, but only recently started sniffing glu-er, no, only recently started believing it was on the spectfum of outcomes when the coach said something to the effect that the 4 TD playoff game wasn't a fluke, and described Davis as a 1B kinda guy.

But realistically I drafted him as a flex player hoping for WR2 upside.

Yeah I mean my thesis in January was basically that he would be overpriced in redraft despite how much I believe in him. That take hasn't changed. I'm still waiting for the big stakes draft where he falls to the late 5th or even into the 6th but it just isn't happening. A new draft is kicking off rn and we'll see where he goes.

This week I offered Jamar Chase in a dynasty for Gabe Davis, 2023 1st, 2x2023 2nd, and 2023 3rd.

It was promptly rejected.
Hi, one of the biggest Davis honks on the forum. He's dreamy.

That said, I'd melt my keyboard accepting this if I'm the Gabe Davis shareholder. Upgrade to Chase for Davus + picks?

Did you a favor by rejecting it.

Every high stakes draft I've seen he's gone in the top 4 rounds. Every one. One in the late 3rd. Everyone wants to hit the jackpot on the breakout star.

This.

He’s my WR3/Flex in both of my main leagues and he can be drafted there at a reasonable pick. And in one of those leagues I went RB/RB and the other WR/RB.

I’d be worried if he was my WR1 because there’s a lot of questions to answer. But he’s got rocketship upside if he’s sitting in your flex or 2 spot.

I'd take every WR who's ADP is 3rd or 4th round over Davis.

And did just that last Sat.

But I'd take Davis over quite a few of the 5th round WRs. Better a WR3 or Flex than a WR2.

So I do have to own up about a special rule in the FPC that I totally forgot to mention, and it may very well be driving his ADP higher than usual - the fact that the Bills play the Rams on TNF and that the FPC drafts going thru that Sat night... every manager gets to retroactively set their lineup re:TNF and so it may be worth reaching for a guy like that because you can choose to bench him after seeing the results of TNF. Some other national tourneys do it the same as well.

I'm gunning to get him tonight at 6.08.
I sincerely hope he goes in the 4th. That would be hysterical.
I might take him in the 4th. Not sure I wanna risk him not making it to me in the 5th. Depends on who is available.
He'll make it to you in the 5th.
Well just had my draft and he did NOT make it to me in the middle of the 5th. I thought about taking him in the 4th but DJ Moore was there and obviously couldn't pass him. He went early 5th. Frustrating. Oh well

I think you misread what side the picks were on.

Oops - yes. Fixed

he offered Chase for Davis + picks.

If I’m the Gabe Davis side I jump on it regaedless. Id pay that for Chase all day

I’m tempted to offer it to the Chase owner in my league.

I take Moore there 100/100 times. Bummer Gabe didn’t make it back. Hope the rest of the draft went well.
