WR George Pickens, DAL (4 Viewers)

In a ten team PPR league someone had huge bye week issues and had to cut Godwin, I picked him up and am starting him over Pickens. Right move or no?

Absolutely killed me last night. If it wasn’t for half PPR, I would’ve had negative points. .9 in any case. And I likely had to sit Nakua or a copper for this guy. I hate myself. The matchup looked great. :ptts:

So Pickens posted "Free Me" and deleted all Steelers content off his socials. Always like to see that after a win.

I couldn't sell fast enough. He just seems like a baby. He spent all of last night's game sulking and screwed up the (routine play) TD chance he got.

I don't see this becoming a squeaky wheel situation. This is basically Claypool 2.0. I doubt Diontae is under a 30% target share in again this year.

Could you imagine this guy playing with Big Ben. Hell… even Kirk cousins… he needs a gunslinger at qb not a dink and dunker. I’d be upset if I was him too but at the same time I’m not defending him I’m Js that I’m not too worried about where his heads at just yet.

Big difference between being frustrated and going nuclear. This modern age uses social media as a weapon and it back fires a lot. This is a bad look. Especially after a win. Ugly. Awkward silence in they first team meeting back.

You think this is nuclear? You gotta admit he made the best two catches of the evening and wasn’t showcased at all, in fact , he’s been basically put on the back burner for d.j. I’m a big fan of Dj but let’s not act like he has excellent hands. This is far from nuclear imo and I also think Pickens should be upset. Big Ben would have audibled to this guy and peppered him with targets.

Yeah, for one, Canada is clueless as far as scheming. Pickens is one of the best young WRs in the game. I know Ds are trying to take him away, but there’s still a lot of things you can do with a guy with his raw ability.

Luckily, the Steelers won’t hold the 5th-year option on Pickens & I don’t believe they’d franchise him unless things get really smoothed over.

George will be free after 2 more seasons as a 25-year old & can pick his spot.

Strictly as an FF owner, I don't mind the "Free Me" & wiping his socials.

Not at all.
I mind the complete lack of effort last night more than anything else. It wasn't like it was 1 play either, it was the entire game. Pickett overthrew him on 1 crosser like halfway through the 1st quarter, and Pickens spent the rest of the game pouting. But this coming after that, is especially bad looking. Like he doesn't think he needs to do better, but its someone else's fault.

It's one thing for Davante Adams last Monday, he's more than earned it, and they lost. George Pickens has accomplished next to nothing, and the Steelers won. Frankly. if I were Mike Tomlin, I would seriously consider benching the guy for Allen Robinson, at least for the start of next week.

Fantasy-wise, I'm super worried that he's light years behind Diontae in an offense that probably can't support 2 guys. I'm treating Diontae as a solid WR2, and Pickens as a borderline WR3/4.

Things tend to get shook out in the wash, but I’m not worried about a guy like DJ. He’s hardly a roadblock with a good OC. Not a Steelers fan, but I hear Canada is the talk of the town (& not in a good way).

Worst case in dynasty, you have a stud hitting the open market in ‘26 at 25 years old.

Steelers WR evaluation since Antonio Brown:

"Wow, this guy looks great! Let's draft him!"
"Do you want to see the personality evaluation?"
"No, I'm sure it's fine."
To be fair they did pick Diontae with one of the picks they got from the poor Raiders for dealing them Antonio.

Very disappointed but not surprised. He is just another diva WR that apparently doesn’t give a crap about the team.

It is an especially bad look after he didn’t get his second foot down on the TD pass. That was 100% on him.

Also you can blame Canada if you want but the OC can’t catch or throw the ball. Pickett could easily have had 2 TDs if he gets the foot in the endzone and Pickens throws a good pass on the crossing pattern in the 1st half.

A few have touched on it above but this is concerning...Pickens is extremely talented but the knock on him coming out of college was the attitude and we are already seeing it 1/2 way thru his second year on a team that is actually winning with a very stable HC...I do think he is being under-utilized but when you look at the overall targets (and the offense overall being sub-par) it is nothing egregious and something you need to act like a 10-year-old about at this point in your career (the whole social media thing is just embarrassing for an adult)...looks like Pickens is going to be a textbook diva WR so the question becomes is he just a pain-in-the-butt that will have his immature/selfish outbursts that you can live with or is he a loose cannon that is capable of hurting his career and being a legit distraction a team doesn't want to deal with...I think we are at a point where it is still TBD but dynasty-wise you are going to have to think long and hard about that question because whether it is acquiring him now or dealing him now you would like to be one-step ahead of the answer to this question.

Hearing all kinds of bad on the guy, how much of an offer is fair for him? Was just offered him for an "early" first (with longshot odds to be a late first). But that seemed like an easy reject. Maybe an early second?

It sounds like he's trying to say it doesn't bother him, but I'm pretty sure "a pebble in one's shoe" means something that is a constant bother.

As backpacker... a "pebble in the shoe" can quickly become a trip-wrecker if you don't address it right away... a minor pain that quickly develops into a painful blister.

That's it... PIT is cutting Pickens!

The ‘bother’ is the media (as he mentioned).
Tomlin seems to be a straight shooter, especially regarding young players.

Pickens went off on his socials then walked it back some. It’s not like it hasn’t been done before.

The Steelers organization is phenomenal at finding WR talent but also seem to find head cases.
They've largely been GREAT at dealing with head cases and knowing when it's time to jettison them.

His consensus value is holding strong as a late 1st with something back, or an early 2nd with something added. I'm quite a bit lower than that though personally. I agree with Cowboy that he isn't a good route runner and rarely works himself open. It gets convoluted because Canada and the Steelers offense is not good either. But either way, is his situation changing anytime soon? If it does, will it be an actual improvement? He's certainly not winning any marketability points to make a great team who needs WR help think "lets grab this guy". I think I'd do a late 2nd, but also fully understand 95% of owners would probably auto decline that without a counter. Again, I never thought highly of him coming out of college though, whereas owners who did will have a higher base value on him. And they can easily blame a lot of his deficiencies on the offense itself, even if that's not the full story in reality.

Everyone hear is saying he's not a good route runner, and that's not his strength but I think it's overly simplistic to pin his drop in production on that.

All I've been reading and hearing, from Steelers players and some beat writers, is that he's the focus of the defense attention and is getting doubled and opening things up for others. That he's been mainly relegated to running on the boundary which also makes him easier to double. It's really a lot of the same issues as Calvin Ridley has been having and like I've said in the Ridley thread a few times, sometimes these things are out of the players control.

Pickett mentioned this and said there are things they can do to help him, like moving him around. Referred to him as a "sitting duck" the way he's been utilized.

So for to those who say his production is down because of his route running I'll tell you I don't agree with you and add he seemed to do fine when Diontae was out and they needed to use him instead of having the luxury of using him.

I'll also add it's easy to see why he's frustrated. I think most players in his position would be as well but without a doubt he's got to handle it better.

Diantae is the better fit for the Steelers is the main issue. And Friermouth coming back will further that.

Until that changes he is just too much boom/bust. You can pretty much write down 7/70 for DJ on Sunday. What is your GP prediction, I mean guess.4

He's a good player but just not open enough/quick enough for the Steelers throwing ability and scheme.
