But I need you to trust me on this. Manziel goes in, and Gordon goes boom. That whole offense must be so down w that hot mess behind center right now.

Manziel goes in, playoff life on the line, the world's eyes on them... I think it clicks. I dont even expect Manziel to be great... But even good is enough right now

Since November 2, the Browns have thrown one TD pass to a WR. You can say that's Hoyer, but I think it's heavily the scheme. It's not built for WR points. Couple that with Gordon's catch rate over his career, and I just don't see it happening.

I am gonna put my neck out there, regardless.

I have faith in the kid, and the spark it'll bring to the offense.

Yes. Obviously Johnny Manziel will throw for four TDs against the Bengals. Of course, Gordon will have to get 8 targets in the endzone for that to happen.

I think this was discussed in the Hoyer thread but no doubt the mentality has changed somewhat from 'avoid mistakes' and keep the team in the game, to trying for the big play and constantly looking for Gordon, Maybe someone could also send a shoutout to Norv Turner. Gordon incredibly lost some third-down snaps to Taylor Gabriel and Travis Benjamin Sunday, but playing on 54-of-68 snaps is more than enough to produce. It just didn't happen even though he tied for the team-lead in targets with seven against a Vontae Davis-less Colts secondary. Blame Brian Hoyer for incompetence and the Browns coaches for not featuring Gordon -- even if there are whispers his conditioning isn't where it needs to be. Perhaps Johnny Manziel and a Gordon-centric gameplan will bring light in Week 15, but we're not holding our breath. The Browns are bungling a once-promising season.

Nope, but that's definitely a part of it, but his demise is a lot more than just Gordon; he's gotta look in the mirror and based on everything he's said the last 2 weeks he's not.

Cameron fell on the sword for the red zone INT and while I don't doubt he ran the wrong route that caused the defender to create the INT from my vantage point it looked like that shouldn't have been the read anyway; Gordon should have. Didn't show on the replay and from my vantage point it was difficult to see with 100% confidence but it sure looked like Gordon was the lone WR right with a corner playing off then both the LB and safety shifted left when Cameron went into motion left. Gordon's route on the play being a slant that is an easy pitch and catch with a quick read of the LB post snap and I don't believe he crashed towards Gordon and the safety was playing too deep to make a play on a well thrown ball anyway. Curious if the all 22 will support this because it sure looked like it, but 15 rows up and on the opposite 20 yard line makes judging more challenging.

I'm seriously thinking about sitting him in favor of Benjamin or Maclin. Too risky to blow my 11-3 season on.

Actually Gordon's work ethic has been called into question all three years he's been in the league. That's across different coaching regimes and quarterbacks.

The reader can decide if that's a) a pattern of behavior, or b) the world conspiracy against Josh Gordon.

Agreed, that was a lame insinuation. It isn't hard to find actual examples of racial discrimination in the world, so no need to go and just make one up. If they are throwing Gordon under the bus, it's because "missing 10 weeks due to suspension" makes for an excellent scapegoat, and it has nothing to do with race.

I thought Hoyer was proving he had the goods early in the season, but something has derailed that train recently. Maybe he isn't holding up under the pressure, or something. The defense handed him a win against a very good Colts team but he couldn't close it out. I think Manziel has a lot to learn before he is ready for the NFL, but they should probably give him a shot.

Apparently the Browns aren't happy with his conditioning, route-running and/or grasp of the playbook. Of course, none of this came out over the last two weeks, so it looks like they're trying to save face after making the mistake of sticking with Brian Hoyer over Johnny Manziel. The Browns would have to be insane not to use Gordon as a full-time, featured player in a must-win game against Cincy in Week 15. The concern is that they are that insane.

bolded is ding ding ding. rotoworld is nailing this one. and im pretty sure its actually stemming from pettine. i think the front office wants johnny, and has for some weeks. but pettine is all about hoyer and is doing everything he can to protect hoyer while shifting blame. gordon is the perfect scapegoat given his history, despite him never being out of shape or lacking effort. but hey, hes a pot smoking black man, he does everything wrong.

So you think a head coach is going to alienate his best player to protect a QB that won't even be on the team next year?

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is "hearing plenty of criticism" about Josh Gordon, including that he's out of shape.

Gordon, who led the NFL in receiving last season, had his snaps reduced Sunday in favor of Taylor Gabriel and Travis Benjamin. Another lame attempt at playing the race card? In (again) a situation where it's not even remotely an issue? What is with you? I mean I've known guys with a chip in their shoulder, but you're lugging around a cinder block.

Agreed, that was a lame insinuation. It isn't hard to find actual examples of racial discrimination in the world, so no need to go and just make one up. If they are throwing Gordon under the bus, it's because "missing 10 weeks due to suspension" makes for an excellent scapegoat, and it has nothing to do with race.I thought Hoyer was proving he had the goods early in the season, but something has derailed that train recently. Maybe he isn't holding up under the pressure, or something. The defense handed him a win against a very good Colts team but he couldn't close it out. I think Manziel has a lot to learn before he is ready for the NFL, but they should probably give him a shot.

Maybe the book is out on him and teams are forcing him to do what he is weak at doing. This is a string of games now that he has looked like garbage. They need new blood in there or they will get more of the same. Hoyer is not adapting to the way teams are playing him.
