I’m excited to see what he does as a rookie. I’m sure lots of ups and downs. Not a lot of yards, but led the team in targets. Also had a TD.
Delicate is an interesting word. I was surprised how small he seemed. Hopefully the Amendola comparison does not come to be because Amendola was always injured. What I noticed week 1 is that he looks quick as advertised. I also think he looks a bit leaner than you'd like your high volume slot guy to be. He's built more like Amendola than Welker. You wince a little bit when he's taking hits. I'd like to see him split out wide more. At the moment he seems to be working mainly from the slot. I'm not sure that's where you exclusively want your 6' 187 pound WR.
My comp for him coming into the NFL was Adam Thielen. However, he may be faster, yet more delicate.
yeah, thats pretty good for the first game of his career.5 for 5 40 yards and a TD- what’s not to like in PPR, or in general?
Edging towards drop status for me in redraft, though I don't want to be too hasty. Here is my sense after two weeks:
- This is going to be a run-first team. Game script obviously dictated that against a hapless Panthers team, but that's Harbaugh's MO in general. They will run to set up the pass, and not the opposite. Arrow down for all LAC pass catchers in that sense.
- Quentin Johnson is not a total bust. If you were counting on McConkey being relevant in redraft, you probably didn't want to see a QJ resurgence. 6 targets and 5 catches today. He may not be Larry Fitzgerald, but he is making strides.
Maybe you give this until the week 5 bye before you cut McConkey loose? Next two games are against Pit and KC. If he's still just being used as a safety valve out of the slot in a low volume passing attack then I don't see a likely path to 2024 startability in FF.

redraft? He was dropped in our league.
Yes, QJ is still rostered.redraft? He was dropped in our league.
The year has barely started.ground and pound offense with limited passing to begin with - now a gimpy Herbert. Not his year
The year has barely started.
The duality of manRedraft droppable. Unless you have an emergency. There is no ceiling here.
true but we've seen enough to know the days of Herbert slinging it 50 times a game is unlikely - and we've also seen last year that gimpy Herbert is not that great. High ankle sprain lasts more than a few weeks - Ill be benching but not ready to cut yetThe year has barely started.ground and pound offense with limited passing to begin with - now a gimpy Herbert. Not his year
Limited ParticipantHip and was limited all week but I can't seem to find the Saturday practice report...
this league is an FPC tourney redraft league which means waivers ran this morning and I didn't see the issue in time to put in a claim (even though I was awake and making bids on other squads etc) so long story short I went with a meh flex option because I would hate to take a MNF 0 with no pivot on my roster right now.Luckily I have Bucky on my bench to swap in for Ladd if necessary, but also check to see if Josh Palmer is available in your league. He’s been awful so far this year, but better than nothing,.
That's pretty much the expected with Harbaugh.Harbaugh has been incredibly conservative with this offense. They are barely throwing the ball and their volume in the passing game has been terrible.
What are the Homies hearing about McConkey this week?
Is he playing?
True game-time decision?
How effective he might be?
I'm a little underwhelmed based on my preseason expectations. He's not as strong/durable in the middle as I hoped, and they're not using him as an outside deep threat. Despite having a franchise QB, Harbaugh has been incredibly conservative with this offense. They are barely throwing the ball and their volume in the passing game has been terrible. With Carr out, this looks like a bad game script for all Chargers WRs. You figure Dobbins and LAC DEF are the play this week in what should be a comfortable win. Get up early, grind out a boring win.
Now that I've said this he'll probably go for 120 and 2 TDs, but really I'm fading Herbert and McConkey until they show me something this season.

The glass is half full you know. This week was my first time watching him live. He looks puny out there. The route running and catching are legit but he's going to be toast in like 4 years if he doesn't start to bulk up a little (if he can). I wasn't really watching him run blocking but having a hard time seeing him be much more than a speed bump to a linebacker or even some safetys.
Dataroma
Ladd McConkey put the world on notice with his 6 for 123 performance on Sunday Night Football. However, he's been cooking all year, with a 24% TPRR and 2.44 YPRR (15th best among all WR).
He's been dicing up Man coverage specifically, the tell-tale sign of an elite WR. He has a very strong 28% TPRR, and 4.00 YPRR (!) that is 2nd to only Justin Jefferson.
The separation metrics back up the production as well, as McConkey has been getting open at an elite rate per @FantasyPtsData *** metrics (among 150 qual. WR, min. 50 routes):
Vs. Man Coverage
- 0.297 Separation Score (4th among all WR)
- 37.8% Win Rate (3rd)
Vs. Zone Coverage
- 0.117 Separation Score (18th among all WR)
- 15.6% Win Rate (21st)
McConkey is also getting it done on all route types:
Horizontally Breaking Routes
- 0.211 Separation Score (8th among all WR)
- 37.8% Win Rate (4th)
Vertically Breaking Routes
- 0.164 Separation Score (11th among all WR)
- 18% Win Rate (14th)
Elite stuff. Last but not least, we head to the mecca of separation data, @MattHarmon_BYB's Reception Perception for McConkey's in-season charting.
McConkey is one arrow away from a legendary all green chart here, further proving his ability to win at all levels.
On top of this, he has the best Success rate against Man (75.8%) that is the best among all rookies, along with a very strong 80% success rate vs. Zone.
If you've read this far, I apologize for the mouthful, but there is just so much positive data backing up the awesome rookie season Ladd is having.
Ladd McConkey might be the best rookie WR of this class. Elite separator from all positions, can win at the catch point too.
Tough decision. I don't have FBGuys rankings but I am certain most rankings would favor Nabers. The fact that the Giants went to 3rd string instead of Lock does not give me supreme confidence. Giants are not trying to win at all. Your hope for Nabers is the game gets away from the Giants and he sees soft coverage in garbage duty.I am debating starting him over Nabers at Flex this week.
Good idea? Bad idea?
