WR Malik Nabers, NYG (2 Viewers)

Might have been dumb of me but Nabers was falling in our draft and I still took Drake London over him. I'm just going to trust my gut on this but it was likely a very very stupid move by me and half my league mates to pass on him.

I don't think it was stupid. Guys are in the same zip code value wise. Sure, straight up id take Nabers, but I can see the conversation the other way around. Worst thing about this is your gonna box score comparing the two all season and kicking yourself every week Nabers does better. Ha ha

LOL yep that is so true. And it will probably be a roller coaster ride back and forth as the season goes on where I feel very right and very wrong about my pick depending on the week.

Drake has a better offense and QB, Nabers already has a naggin jury

Redraft '25- He's being drafted at the very top end and I don't understand why he isn't dinged a bit for the Giants, Russ, possible lame duck coach, spotty talent around him
There's safer people to put on your roster, availability should also count. He started 13 games as a rookie, I can do the math based on what he produced but I also think teams will account for him more than any other player on that offense which is going to inhibit his ability to be wide open all the time.

This is a 1st round pick that feels like pure gambling and wanting to try and catch the folks who already took JJ and Chase.
High risk, possible high reward but no sure thing. I respect hose who do decide to take him, I just think you might be in here on Sundays complaining more often than you think

You say others in his range are safer, I say who? There are real arguments against anyone at this level in the draft, and even the guys who are "can't miss" above MN can easily miss based on a variety of factors.

I understand and again respect that others are excited to get him after the big names come off the board

Jax Dart might be the back up which I think would be great in case something fails with Russ. Dart's camp and some of his preseason might be the best news to come out of NY in a while

Dude, you’re taking a guy that considered surgery on his toe (likely turf toe). In the first round. There’s a reason he wound up on FBGs list of guys you’re glad other people drafted. Oof.

JL could be closer to God as far as vision goes, but ain’t nothing healing that toe. And I roster him in dynasty so I pay attention. This has no good written all over it.

I watched most of his games. The numbers are deceiving. The quality of his targets was putrid. His talent jumped off the page at me and any of the 3 QBs currently on the roster are a huge upgrade compared to what he had to play with last year. I doubt he'll see so many targets again, but I'd be willing to bet my left arm his yards per catch will increase dramatically. If you watch the tape, he wins and he wins big on most every route. If he had a competent QB last year, his numbers would look more like Justin Jefferson's rookie year. He's that good, maybe better. We're just scratching the surface with him.

Between games nursing injuries, questionable tags, looking dinged getting up play after play, whatever. That worries me a bit but I remember another receiver I felt the exact same about for many years until I finally admitted defeat - Mike Evans.

Nabers WAS the offense last year. He was the focus of every D. He beat every coverage, and he beat it bad. He was open in ways that made bad QBs pull the trigger. No small windows. Massive picture windows to throw through. His talent is undeniable. He has the potential to be the #1 WR in the league for the next 5 seasons. I feel this way about very few guys in the NFL. No one in this range is "safe," so give me upside all day every day. Chase, JJ, Nabers, Nico, BTJ and maybe CeeDee.

The way you're talking about Nabers is the way I talk about guys like MHjr, Odunze, Pearsall, etc. These guys need to prove it. Nabers has proven it.

Dude, you’re taking a guy that considered surgery on his toe (likely turf toe). In the first round. There’s a reason he wound up on FBGs list of guys you’re glad other people drafted. Oof.

JL could be closer to God as far as vision goes, but ain’t nothing healing that toe. And I roster him in dynasty so I pay attention. This has no good written all over it.

He’s had the toe since college, . Drafting him with confidence. Dude is a dog and looks special. Don’t see that often.

That toe only gets worse. These things progress. Drafting him in the first is a way you potentially get no return on your first. I personally want him to get surgery yesterday. It ruined and ended Deion’s career.

That’s just one of the reasons why this game is so fun. We all get to choose what we do. Most of us will be right quite a bit, and be internally tortured when we’re wrong. It’s OK you’re wrong this time.

Redraft '25- He's being drafted at the very top end and I don't understand why he isn't dinged a bit for the Giants, Russ, possible lame duck coach, spotty talent around him
There's safer people to put on your roster, availability should also count. He started 13 games as a rookie, I can do the math based on what he produced but I also think teams will account for him more than any other player on that offense which is going to inhibit his ability to be wide open all the time.

This is a 1st round pick that feels like pure gambling and wanting to try and catch the folks who already took JJ and Chase.
High risk, possible high reward but no sure thing. I respect hose who do decide to take him, I just think you might be in here on Sundays complaining more often than you think

I don't think anyone is arguing with your decision to have him on your DND list at his current price, anyone can respect that decision, they're just saying your arguments for doing so are flawed. Reverting to "I won't draft him at this price" instead of addressing your flawed arguments is weak sauce.

You say others in his range are safer, I say who? There are real arguments against anyone at this level in the draft, and even the guys who are "can't miss" above MN can easily miss based on a variety of factors.

The way he moves with and without the ball, the toe is a non-issue IMHO. Dude just doesn't like to practice it seems. He's a Ja'Marr Chase clone, but possibly MORE athletic and even more room for growth.

As far as Gordon's height, I like tall RBs who know how to use leverage. Marcus Allen was a master at it. I also have no speed concerns. Like many tall guys, their 40 often doesn't correlate with their long speed. King Henry is the poster boy for that dynamic.

I'm not saying Gordon is as fast as Henry (he's not), but he's far from a lumbering big guy. Ollie can pick 'em up and put 'em down...he had plenty of long runs in college.

He did have quite a few big runs/catches, he can move with a runway.

Nabers is the dude. He will outperform 2024 with Wilson or Dart, just give him the ball and watch him do work.

Check out 89's breakdown of Nabers' rookie season. I greatly respect what Smith did on the field and he's an extremely intelligent WR. I love his breakdowns of rookie WRs, they are very insightful and fair. He doesn't get everything right, but he's fun to listen to and better than your average analyst. What I find interesting about the Nabers breakdown is Smith feels like he has room to grow with his route running. I suppose that's true for everyone, but I watched Nabers do work all season long against 1s as the Giants' only real threat on the field. He straight up torched some DBs and defenses designed specifically to stop him and only him. To think he can get even better in that area is downright scary and the NFL has been put on notice. A better potential playmaker than Chase?

I've acknowledged he has some sort of injury, and every player who steps on the field for even one play is an injury away from a season or career ender, but no one has provided any sort of real report on the severity or nature of Naber's actual injury. All I can do is watch him and believe what my eyes can see.

I'm still waiting for a link from the team or Nabers camp that states he has turf toe. It would be better if you provided one. Heck, we're even speculating on which toe aren't we? Twitter docs, tv personalities and message board crusaders aside, who in the know has actually said he has turf toe? Heck, I haven't even seen a reputable beat writer say, "sources inside the organization tell me it's turf toe." Admit you're guessing and just running with an unproven and unverified narrative. Might have been dumb of me but Nabers was falling in our draft and I still took Drake London over him. I'm just going to trust my gut on this but it was likely a very very stupid move by me and half my league mates to pass on him.

I don't think it was stupid. Guys are in the same zip code value wise. Sure, straight up id take Nabers, but I can see the conversation the other way around. Worst thing about this is your gonna box score comparing the two all season and kicking yourself every week Nabers does better. Ha ha

I’m a huge London honk and I probably still take Nabers. Probably. Hard to say until I’m OTC His back is reportedly fine, and while the toe that people can’t stop talking about is legit, it hasn’t slowed him down to date. But that said, I do have them relatively in the same tier, so probably not “stupid”, but certainly possible Nabers puts up better numbers. Since it’s a coin flip, go with your gut.

On second thought, if possible I don’t want to have to watch a minute of NYG football this year, so I probably also take London.

Look like Nabers is taking much more proactive with health particularly with recovery and rehab.

Malik Nabers has had a strong summer, and part of it has been the time he’s spent bonding with Wilson. One story I heard about Wilson setting the tone was the room he rented for recovery and rehab in the team hotel for camp—a room that younger teammates started to gravitate to, with some borrowing from the quarterback’s methods. Nabers was at the top of the list of guys to do that, and it’s shown in how consistent he’s become, as the violent, aggressive, fast style of play he brought into the pros has started to conform to the NFL.

Been 100% in step with how you're assessing Nabers toe and general health. And stated as much a few pages back. It hasn't affected his play, at all. He hasn't missed time, at all. Fpr years of "dealing" with...what exactly? A few years down the road when it finally might, everyone will be claiming their fantasy greatness for calling it.

Not really. If he misses time this year I'll be right here. It'll be simple. I'll be right. By the time Odell started getting injured he was cooked. Nabers (so far), reminds me of Mike Evans. Always dinged, always questionable, but always at peak performance when the bright lights came on. Nabers still has a lot to prove but so far he’s proven he is a gamer, hates practice, is a tough *** dude or some combination of the 3.

When the Giants roll out Dart things will improve. Russell may still be able to run out of the pocket, but he is pretty washed as a passer IMO.
