WR Matthew Golden, GB (4 Viewers)

This guy is droppable, no way you could convince me otherwise

I feel like he is on the verge of a breakout.
Idk. Was his long catch last week intended for the other wr? Looked like he may have ran the wrong route and stole the ball from his teammate. He also had a couple bone headed plays and got laid out hard both times. Last week was the week to do it with Doubs going off instead

Lmao what? Please tell me you play redraft and not dynasty
Gotta be. I gotta keep reminding myself that people still do redraft. I've only done dynasty the last 20 years or so.

Last year was my first year playing dynasty. Will not go back
It takes a lot of time and effort. Definitely not for everyone. I love the deeeeep dynasty leagues (in one 32 team league with 90 man rosters. It's broken down into 4 conferences of 8 teams with a copy of each player in each conference). Gotta know the guys stashed at the end of the bench and on taxi squads in leagues like that.

At least he caught it. Wicks would have dropped it lmao. And how can a QB not find Doubs with his Wii looking head
Just saying it looks like he’s going through some growing pains. Hopefully it starts clicking soon

I'm considering dropping for Troy Franklin .... both in crowded offenses, but at least one without a dominant TE

That is what I am saying. He looks the part, but is having some growing pains. I am not saying he is breaking out this weeks, but I think by Thanksgiving he will be a solid wr3 for fantasy and could be a high as in wr2.

Christian Watson may be in the mix by Thanksgiving...Hopefully Jayden Reed as well. Seems like Jacobs is the only Packer that can be counted on for consistent fantasy points:shrug:

Do I think Watson will play this year? I do, but I don't expect much from a guy 10ish months removed from an acl tear that has his entire game built on speed. I would expect Reed to take more away from Kraft.

With all the back up RBs getting some work plus GBs bye week, I cut him myself. Just doesn't seem like its going to happen anytime soon

I cut him a few weeks ago in my short bench redraft league. Someone picked him up right away which kind of stung...but he hasn't really done much.
However, in my dynasty league he's a deep bench stash.

Was dropped last night after waivers in my 10 team .5ppr league. I am sure there are a ton of leagues where Golden is available.
Contemplating putting in a low bid as a stash.
I think that Doubs will be traded by deadline. He is a UFA after 2025. Wicks is a UFA after 2026 and he's under a cheap contract.

I would be shocked if they trade Doubs. I think it was reported last week that they have approached him about an extension

I did read that the last couple of games Golden has played more from the slot, instead of Wicks. With Watson being close I think they might go with Watson and Doubs on the outside with Golden in the slot.

I'm holding in redraft and hoping for a post-bye uptick. Sometimes rookies just take time and with their crowded receiver corps I think it just might take a little more time. I still think he's the most talented WR they have. It's just a matter of if it happens the second half of this year or if it happens next year.

If you have the roster spot I think he's a good stash.

Unless the team changes their philosophy of rotating WR’s throughout the game and not having an alpha….hes going to be very volatile whenever he does get it going.

I do not see why they used a first round pick on him either.

I am also confused. Typically a first round skill position is playing near starter snaps.
GB revolving WRs is so annoying. Miss the days of Greg Jennings, D. Adams, Jordy Nelson.

He cleared waivers. I scooped up for free.
I keep reading how this is a crowded WR room. Same can be said for TB. And now we are having conversations of Egbuka being the WR1 there.

Despite the crowded room, we just need one thing to occur.
We need Jordan Love to finally create a WR1.
His past two games saw route shares of 82 percent and 72 percent.
His first-read target shares have increased substantially, going from three total first-read targets in the first two weeks of the season to nine in the next two.
This is why I picked him up as a stash.

It is very early in his career. I can see in redraft why managers might be upset, but in dynasty, he still is a very high prospect in my mind, and if I used a first-rounder in my rookie draft, then you should be encouraged by his path. Redraft, you knew the risk. He might not pop till next season or later, perhaps mid-2026. He might pop later this season. I think he is too talented not to be a good player in the future. Be patient. Trust yourself a little.

Adams and Jordy are two good examples of WR's who didn't blossom until their 3rd or 4th seasons. Adams was labeled a bust by many after his first two seasons.

These comments about Golden after 4 games are purely driven by a fantasy football mindset. In real life football and particularly with Matt LaFleur, Golden has had a great start, looks fantastic, and is on track for a successful career. The Packers are using him exactly as expected, or at least as anyone who has watched them during the MLF years would expect. It would be highly unusual and completely unexpected if Golden's stats have much if any separation from Doubs, Wicks, Kraft, Reed and others at the end of the season. Watson appears likely to return in a few weeks, and he's the most talented of all of them.

Matthew Golden caught 3-of-5 targets for 86 yards in the Packers’ Week 6 win over the Bengals, adding two rushes for 16 yards.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was evidently busy scheming up creative ways to get the explosive rookie involved during their Week 5 bye. Golden got going on the Packers’ second drive, initially taking a swing pass for eight yards after being sent in motion pre-snap. He gained another eight yards on a jet sweep a few plays later. Golden’s most impressive play occurred late in the game, with roughly two-and-a-half minutes remaining, when he improvised on a post route cutting flat across the field to get underneath the waiting defensive back. Jordan Love spotted the shift and hit him for a 31-yard gain. Golden warrants WR3/FLEX consideration against the Cardinals next week.

Only thing that sucks is that nearly all of his touches came in the 1st half. He looked exciting to start and then nada

Every Matthew Golden touch against the Bengals...

It's happening.

Most Receptions of 20+ yards on Sunday:

Jordan Love says they gotta keep finding ways to get the ball to the rookie playmaker Matthew Golden

For as good as Matthew Golden was today, Matt LaFleur essentially said that the Packers' offensive approach isn't changing.

"I know everybody wants to force-feed guys the ball, but that's not really how we've done it around here and I don't plan on changing that. That's the beauty of having a lot of guys we have a lot of confidence in—we have confidence that we can put anybody in this situation and have plays off of plays and a lot of it is dictated off the coverages. The quarterback's role is to make sure the ball is going to the right place based on what the defense presents. Whoever gets those catches, they get them."

Got it, coach.
Love will keep throwing the ball to Golden. Cause he's always open and is one of the top WRs in separation score this year.
The cream always rises to the top. Golden gains chunk yards in limited opportunities. Meanwhile Doubs goes 5 for 55.

14-team non-PPR league. I've been holding all season, even starting him a number of weeks. But with Hurts going on bye, I'm seriously considering dropping him to pick up a QB streamer.

It's not just the lack of production against even mediocre defenses. It's that with Watson returning and Reed on his way back, I don't see them suddenly turning to him. Also, they're past their bye (so it's not like they're going to take an extended time to retool their offense), and above all, it's working! Team is 5-1-1 and has a very good shot at the 1 seed. From LaFleur's point of view, what needs to change?

With Gadsden's emergence, I'll probably drop Hunter Henry before Golden, but still. He's heading to my bench until he shows me something

Again I ask. Why did they pick him in the 1st round?
Malik Heath was getting catches last night for crying out loud.
Golden would be a key producer on many other teams the second half of his rookie year. On GB, we're lucky to see him score a single TD this year. BTW, Watson and Doubs are FA's next year and I fully expect both guys to play elsewhere.

Doubs is an UFA this offseason but Watson signed an extension last month and is under contract through the end of next season. Watson, Reed and Wicks will all be FA's after next season barring any extensions. I would not be surprised to see Doubs also sign an extension in the next couple months. Golden definitely is in the plans and has a big future with the Packers. As has been repeatedly posted in the discussions here, the Packers with Love and LaFleur running the offense will always be a nightmare for fantasy players and daily performance gamblers because of the constant variance, which is part of the gameplan. There will never be a WR1 on this team, but Golden could easily emerge as a big producer in the second half of the season. Or as you suggest he may finish the year with no touchdowns. Flip a coin. Either way, the plan in Green Bay is working.

I did not see Christian Watson coming back this season and pushing the rookie to the bench
In redraft I would say Golden is waiver wire material for the rest of the season, you would never know when you could start him with any confidence

Matthew Golden among the 94 WRs to get 20+ targets this season:

- 3rd in EPA per target
- 9th in success rate when targeted
- 17th in yards per target
- 41st in first downs per route
- 53rd in yards per route
- 79th in targets per route

I think you get the drift. Good when thrown the football, not thrown the football very often.
Good when targeted but not targeted enough to be startable for most teams. I expected his targets to be much higher but when you have Kraft and Doubs as first two options then Jacobs as a run threat not many opportunites. I feel like too much of a gamble to pick who will be WR 2 from Green Bay going forward.

Pack need to get Golden the ball more in 2nd half of year, but lots of mouths to feed

Would love to see the Pack go 4WR more often and spread the field, let guys win 1:1

horrendous job drafting--imagine what they could of used that 1st pick on....anything but WR

Easy drop until there are more injuries to the team or the usage really changes. Of course he’s efficient but at this point it’s Kraft then a carousel of players catching the ball. Hell even heath and Savion had catches. Just ridiculous

Yeah to use 1st round draft capital on a WR I feel there has to be a plan for that guy to be the guy. They have too many interchangeable WR's which helps if you looking for guys who can slide into multiple spots on the field. I mean they knew Watson was going to be out and maybe they didn't believe Doubs was going to be that guy. I can only guess their thinking was Golden was the guy they thought could be a No. 1 if Doubs was out. Not sure what GB front office was thinking but that is all I can come up with. No Wicks and no Reed and Golden hasn't seen as much targets as most expected does feel like a reach for a WR in round 1. They gave a Watson a year extension that goes to next year while he was recovering from his ACL injury.
