NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that N'Keal Harry underwent ankle surgery Thursday and will be sidelined eight weeks.​

Harry is undergoing tightrope surgery after suffering a high ankle sprain in training camp. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Harry could return in November, depending on how the Bears handle things. However, Harry's uncertain status with his new team makes his timeline less clear. Harry is a free agent in 2023, making it possible he doesn't log a snap for the Bears, who sent a seventh-round pick to the Patriots for the 24-year-old in July.

Bears designated N'Keal Harry (ankle) to return from injured reserve.​

Cody Whitehair was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Harry now has a 21-day window to be officially activated. The former Patriot suffered an ankle injury at the beginning of camp and was forced to undergo surgery, landing him on injured reserve to start the season. Harry's return may give Justin Fields an extra target, but the Bears' passing game struggles won't be fixed with a first-round bust in the lineup.
