When my kids were little one of my boys came home from middle school talking about how someone at their school was trash. I looked at him with that look where they know I'm serious and tell him:

I do not think he can serve suspension and be on IR. Maybe that's part of this whole "not done for the season". They say he should be ready to come back towards the end of the season. Legal stuff gets resolved. Suspension happens . . . I imagine if the NFL finds out the chiefs lied about his injury and they knew all along he was out for the year . . . there would be fines/punishment, so I doubt this is the way it all plays out. Yup. While he is on IR his lawyers are probably trying to settle the 8 (EIGHT!!!) felony counts. If the somehow manage that, then the NFL can suspend Rice once he comes off IR. So, even if his knee is shredded, since the Chiefs have put him on season ending IR technically the Chiefs can bring him off IR then let the NFL suspend Rice which would give the Chiefs a roster exemption and let Rice continue his rehab/recovery.

Guys, it's a loophole in the system. It sucks but it's very smart by the Chiefs and frankly I wish the Raiders got to manipulate it first.

The question is if Rice's legal team can work out a deal with the Dallas DA over the next month to get the cases (EIGHT FELONIES!!!) resolved. If anything shady happens it probably has more to do with the Dallas DA and Rice's legal team than the Chiefs and the NFL. Dude should serve jail time for eight felonies (EIGHT!!!).

It's rare the NFL imposes a suspension before legal claims are settled and when it does it's when the PR is so bad they are forced to take action (e.g. Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson). The PR fallout for Rice's crime wasn't terrible. That's out fault, not the NFL's .

The barrier between Rice and a suspension is resolution of his legal cases. Perfectly above board. Not revealing the extent of the injury, presuming they know it's an ACL already (and I think they do) is bad optics to those of us who follow such things but the general public will never even hear about it. Therefore they won't raise a stink and the PR fallout will remain minimal.

Sure sounds like they exploited the system to slow down the process & keep Rice active while he was healthy, now they want to exploit the system to speed up the process to exploit the system while he’s hurt.

Is there an explanation as to why some players are suspended on "allegations" and in the case of a KC player, the NFL waits for the legal process to "play out"?
This seems glaringly biased towards helping KC win since obviously the legal system will take quite a while to "play out".
Rashee Rice pulled a Henry Ruggs and then left the scene (although just injuries to bystanders vs death) and NFL says he's free to play ... for now.

They almost always do now because of the CBA and negotiations with the players and Goodell. I think unless it's a domestic violence issue, the NFL has not acted to suspend people for conduct outside the lines before the justice system decides upon the appropriate punishment for the player regarding the issue at hand. I don't even think violence has been met with the same harshness it once was (see the Kamara saga). I think this is an unspoken agreement the NFL and the NFLPA have after what happened with Ezekiel Elliott and a few others.

Only one for vehicle stuff, and it was vehicular manslaughter. It resulted in a death.

Now, Rice has some serious charges to answer to and might have more trouble with the law than the NFL. That we don't know. We also don't know if the civil suits seek monetary damages whereby the judge wants him to work in order to make the injured people whole again.

A lot of stuff goes into this. I get the frustration with the Chiefs working the system, but vehicular stuff seems low on the NFL's list of things.

Because they haven't been suspended on "allegations" of anything but domestic violence in the issues you're referring to.

This has been debated. I don't claim to know whether you're allowed to serve a suspension while on IR.

It's probably why they didn't put him on season ending IR.

If Rice resolves his legal b.s. the Chiefs bring him back from IR, he gets suspended, goes on to do his rehab anyway and the Chiefs get a roster exemption for the suspended player.
