WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (1 Viewer)

Rashod Bateman caught 6-of-7 targets for 80 yards in the Ravens' Week 10 loss to the Dolphins.

On a night where Sammy Watkins returned from a five-week absence, Bateman led the Ravens in receiving, though Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews both caught as many passes. Amazingly, Bateman was also on the field for fewer snaps than Devin Duvernay, with Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke charting Duvernay with a 44-40 advantage. Bateman nevertheless made his presence felt, recovering a first quarter Brown fumble, extending into traffic for a critical third down catch in the third quarter, and hauling in an under-thrown deep ball for a 30-yard gain in what amounted to garbage time. He also comfortably out-snapped Watkins, but it's possible Watkins' snap counts will grow. It's also possible that won't happen after Watkins made two massive mistakes, losing a touchdown in the air and committing a fumble six. Bateman will be a high-end WR4 for Week 11 vs. the Bears.

I'm going to go on record to call tonight's Baltimore at Miami game as the breaking out game for Mr. Rashod Bateman.  8+ Receptions, 100+ yards, and 1+ TD's.

🤕 Not quite the breakout I was hoping and expecting. 6 for 80 isn't terrible for PPR leagues, but still not going to get more people to talk about him. He looks great out there imo, if I was the Ravens I would cut bait on Watkins and get Bateman and Duvernay more involved.

Breaking the seal tonight on the rookie since Chase Claypool is listed as QUESTIONABLE and all my other WR options are on BYE weeks.
Whew.

The way the Ravens offense got shut down last night I'm relieved with the solid fantasy game.  I thought he was their best WR by far, most consistent hands and was getting YAC.  Seems Lamar's first read is Brown but Bateman looks good and worthy of more designed plays IMHO.

Bateman went 4 for 64 after Watkins fumble. Including 1 for 20 where he got taken down around the 5 yard line  after a nice out route and run then 1 for 30 yards. He was also the target of Lamar's interception at the end of the game in the end zone.

after watching him last night, I get it, a real talent.  Hope he doesn't blow up to close the year, would love to get him in the 5th next year

Agreed.  He was the only bright spot for the Ravens last night.
He's still 3rd in the receiving pecking order the way I see it.  Jackson either throws it to Brown or Andrews first, runs second, then perhaps Bateman.  Will Bateman eventually take more from Brown?  I don't know, because it appears Jackson zeroes in on Brown a lot.  I laughed at his drop.

And Baltimore was down 15-3 after the Watkins fumble and return by Howard if I am remembering the same play. We're talking either late 3rd or early 4th, I'd have to check.

-I would just say that Miami was in a softer defense when they allowed the 99 yard drive about midway to late way of the 4th Q.

But I have been watching Bateman for a couple weeks, the Ravens offense was terrible last night and did virtually nothing from the 2nd drive of the game until the 4th Q.

I feel like talent is going to keep rising and rising with him, having a third option to catch the ball raises all the tides here, particularly with this running game in shambles.

That catch Bateman pulled out of traffic, I don't know too many guys who make that play.  Guts and skill.

Bateman looks great. Is Watkins PT strictly a "Harbaugh <3's Veteran Players" thing? He looks terrible and has been bad for years now. Yet he keeps getting snaps at the expense of Bateman (sort of) and Brown. It looked to me like Watkins/Duvernay were one package and Brown/Bateman were the other, with mostly 2 wide sets and those groups swapping. Duvernay is more dynamic and looks like a better blocker... is he terrible at running routes? Is there any known reason why this team isn't rocking 3 wide sets with Brown/Bateman/Duvernay?

A meh game. He looked good, Lamar and the O line looked bad. His night was rescued by that last 2-minute drill drive, he got 58 yards - but he was also the target on the game ending INT.

Smart play jumping on the Marquis fumble.

This kid is on my wire. He has looked electric at times and if Lamar starts looking his way when he isn't looking for Brown and Andrews it could be gold.

I just dropped Elijah Moore for him. Kind of feel like Im gonna regret it. I know Bateman has the better supporting cast but Moore just seems like he has that "it" factor and will have a great second half while Bateman seems more solid, steady performer but no blowup potential.

A few weeks ago I had to make a WR drop and the choice was either Bateman and Elijah Moore.  I liked them both about even, and the choice was tough but I kept Bateman.  My overall thought is if you want steady, Bateman is the play.  I think Moore will be more like 21 points one week, 4 points the next.

I have them both, and am holding both for now, but I think the choice is clear with Bateman if you're making the choice. Elijah Moore's coming on, and I think his stock will only rise as he earns his way into the offense, but Bateman has clear consistent value right now and clearly isn't done improving his own stock. Main difference is the floor, where Moore loses by account of the Jets being the Jets.

I dont know how you can say this when Moore has outscored Bateman every single week since week 7

Rashod Bateman (illness) does not have an injury designation for Week 11 against the Bears.

Bateman got in a full practice Friday and looks ready to go agains the Bears. Bateman ran a route on 64% of dropbacks in Week 10, with Sammy Watkins at 32%, and the rookie should be clearly ahead of the veteran once again. Bateman ran a route on 81% of dropbacks in Week 9, however, so Watkins is still eating into his playing time in a meaningful way. He profiles as a WR4 option this week.

Rashod Bateman’s Coming-Out Party?

Excerpt:

Rashod Bateman

The stud rookie has received 28 targets through his four weeks on the field. The tape speaks for itself. Bateman looks to be everything the Ravens expected, and maybe even more, when they drafted him. Bateman has looked explosive, ran good routes, and made miraculous catches. With rain in the forecast this weekend, I expect the Bears to put safety help on Hollywood Brown often, since everyone knows, it only takes one slip up for Hollywood to take it to the house. This should result in Bateman getting a little less attention. Also, in a game where rain will likely hamper the passing game, Bateman has proven himself capable of making difficult catches that are bound to happen this game.

Gut feeling Batemon is going HAM tomorrow if Lamar is good to go.
*Except for possibly the weather. Which has been upgraded to “40% chance of showers” with 20 mph wind. Also expected to rain tonight - not sure what that’ll do to Soldier Field - maybe @yoman can shed light on that.

#ravens are downgrading WR Marquise Brown (thigh) to OUT tomorrow vs. the Bears.

Could be Mr. Bateman's day.
Although unfortunately Lamar is now sick again with cold symptoms and is questionable.

I still like him with Huntley in, but I wouldn't expect a big game.

As for wind and rain, remember it affects the defense also.

Time to consider alternatives to both Lamar and Bateman. OTOH, how good will the Bears defense be without Mack and Hicks?

I don't think the weather is going to be that severe. It is supposed to rain a little in the morning and subside by game time. Not sure about how much of a factor the wind is going to be. I'll give you a full report tomorrow morning including radar photos, the dewpoint, humidity, air quality, etc.  :)

no wind chill factor? So disappointed. Sheesh, I thought you’d come through, bro.

Ps - on a semi-serious note, Chicagoans have a different description of weather than Californians. Sorta like when someone asks me if something is spicy, & I say no, then they get mad at me because they’re destroyed by it. lol

Baltimore Ravens’ Rashod Bateman Has Chance To Justify Pre-Draft Reputation

The Baltimore Ravens may be without Lamar Jackson as they bid to bounce back in Week 11 against the Chicago Bears. While the status of their star quarterback is in question, the Ravens will be undermanned at wide receiver, piling the pressure on a rookie most expect to blossom into a star to produce a breakout showing.

Baltimore downgraded Marquise Brown to out because of a thigh injury, meaning that, if Jackson can shake off an illness that has him listed as questionable for the trip to Soldier Field, his top target beyond reliable tight end Mark Andrews is likely to be rookie wideout Rashod Bateman.

Bateman looked a steal for the Ravens with the 27th overall pick in the first round of this year's draft. In his collegiate career at Minnesota, he demonstrated all the tools necessary to develop into a number one receiver.

Having showcased the ability to create separation with his route-running, win consistently at the catch point and gain yards after the catch, it was no surprise to see him billed as the missing piece in the Ravens' passing game.

His recovery from groin surgery prolonged his wait to justify such praise but, after a promising start to his pro career, Bateman now has the chance to prove a lot of people right in an expanded role with Brown on the shelf.

Through his first four games with the Ravens, Bateman has 18 catches on 28 targets for 241 yards. Averaging 13.4 yards per reception and with 15 of his catches going for a first down, he is already establishing himself as a reliable chain mover.

The Ravens will be pleased with his impact so far, but the reality is they drafted him to be more than just a chain mover. Bateman is a receiver with the ability to consistently produce explosive plays and, in the absence of Brown, Baltimore may rely on him to show off that talent.

An average depth of target of 10 yards that is 76th, per Pro Football Reference, in the NFL may well increase, especially against an ailing Chicago Bears defense that will be without edge rusher Khalil Mack for the rest of the season, ranks 21st in yards per play allowed and is 22nd in explosive pass rate allowed, according to Sharp Football Stats.

The Ravens' chances of victory in Chicago will be significantly hit if they are forced to go with Tyler Huntley over Jackson. However, regardless of who is at quarterback, Baltimore's success in putting up more points than a suddenly exciting Bears offense led by Justin Fields may well hinge on whether Bateman takes advantage of a clear opportunity to live up to his pre-draft reputation.

I definitely know cold and have bought some very expensive outdoor gear so I don't freeze my butt off. I will not be there tomorrow and find the current Bears team/regime hard to watch.

If Jackson is in I would consider Bateman a decent WR3/Flex in PPR. Like @Hot Sauce GuyI had to decide between him and Mooney.

You chose Mooney?

Also regarding the bolded,  not even to see Fields play in person?

Well count me in with you guys having the same decision. I was excited about rolling with Bateman, but may have to switch to Mooney if Lamar is out. I've never seen Huntley play so that complicates matters ever more when deciding.

Yes I chose Mooney over Bateman but I am rethinking it now that Brown is out. Of course if Jackson doesn't play the decision is easy.
I am very frustrated with management/ownership. I went to the 49ers game and I find it hard to root for them to lose because of how badly I want to see Nagy fired. An ideal Bears game would be for them to lose and have Fields play great.

I’m in the exact same boat. Baltimore 11th against the pass, Chicago 27th.

Fresh off the 20+ point game before the BYE makes Mooney tempting.

OTOH, Watkins is unlikely to be 100% so it might be the Bateman/Andrews show.

I’m considering Bateman since Hollywood is out.

it’s a hard call, and it’s gonna suck getting it wrong watching the other dude blow up my bench. :wall:

Well, pretty much decided Bateman if Lamar plays, Mooney if he doesn't. We'll see. Only because Chicago is ranked much lower vs WRs than Baltimore in my league. Otherwise flip a coin. Tough call

I’m concerned about Bateman getting all of the attention now that Hollywood is out today. It always looks good on paper when the top WR is out, but it seems to fail a lot for me.

The reason it fails in some cases is that when the top guy is out they double cover the next best player, but in this case that is Andrews.  There is still hope for Bateman having a big game.

I agree. Plus he has shown the ability to get open at Will, and also make contested catches. To me, the only deciding factor here is whether or not LJax  plays.

Caveat: I'm NOT comparing Bateman to the GOAT in terms of where he will end up. Nobody will ever do what Jerry Rice did.

He runs routes and makes catches like Jerry Rice. He moves like Rice. He's not a world-class sprinter, but has football quickness. He already seems to have OG moves (ever play hoops against your dad? that kind of ####).
