WR the way to go this year? (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking outside the top 3 or 4 RB, there are way too many risky RB picks in the 1st/2nd round. I like the idea of going for 2 stud WR out of the gate.

MJD- contract dispute

Forte- contract dispute

AP- recovering from serious injury

Charles- recovering from serious injury

McFadden- injuries always a concern

I want my 1st & 2nd rounders to be as close to a sure thing as possible. Taking one of these guys early can derail your entire season if they miss multiple games. You can find guys like Ingram and Brown later that could provide excellent value. Thoughts?

Been considering this myself for my next draft that I have coming up. Don't know how early I need to be to get him, but I would love a start to a draft like:

Round 1: Calvin Johnson

Round 2: Julio Jones

Round 3: Nicks or Dez? Greg Jennings maybe?

Then start looking at RB/QB/TE depending on who falls to me.

Just did a dynasty start-up auction, $300 cap, where I went that way because the RB's after the definite studs are so risky, yet expensive. I know that this is a re-draft snake draft thread, but figured I'd throw my thoughts in as I don't play re-draft.

So far my roster is:

Romo

SJax, P. Thomas, K. Smith

Julio, Dez, Maclin, Jordy, Hill, Broyles, J. Adams

F. Davis

I think it depends where you draft.

I generally feel once you get past the top 5 rb studs you're probably better off waiting on rb.

also, I think there's some good rb value to be had later on, but I pretty much think that every year, and last year my rb position was a trainwreck.

My auction opinion is that I plan on paying to get one of the few legit stud RB1s:

Foster

Rice

McCoy

But I agree after that it's a lot of ?s at RB1 prices. If I were looking at first round in redraft outside of those picks I'd be looking at WR or QB.

I've been thinking about this as well like someone else said depends on draft position and lineup requirements. In my league we start 1rb 1 wr with 3 flex RB/wr to me there are only 4 sure things at RB. Ray Rice,Arian Foster,Lesean Mcoy, and MJD if can't land one of these 4 you def have to consider going wr or QB! I also think Te's will be going wayyyy to early this season

The other problem I see with taking a McFadden/Lynch type of RB at the end of the 1st round is you are going to be at a major disadvantage when the first four teams end up with a Rice/Charles type of duo that is better than your RB duo and they take a good WR at the beginning of the 3rd round. The only way to combat this IMO is to go QB/WR or WR/WR.

Rg3

Richardson

Calvin

Julio

Wallace

Austin

Steve johnson

Witten

Those are my starters where I will use the option of starting 1 RB, 5 WR in a .5Rb,1wr/TE PPR 12 teamer. Beanie, Brown,Holmes are the main depth. How this team fares will affect all my drafts in the next few years.

Have a look in the Julio Jones spotlight. There's a solid case to be made that he'll finish ahead of Roddy. I'm on board. If I could land Andre Johnson, Julio Jones, and Percy Harvin in round 2, 3, 4 I would be a happy guy. Snag Gates in the 5th... I actually plan to land Mathews/Lynch in the first round and then generally ignore RB until round 6 or 7 in which I'll be going RB straight thru for 3-4 rounds. Would love to land Hillis, Ridley, D.Brown in 7, 8, 9 with Vereen a bit later. Will gladly take Blount in round 9, as well, if I miss on Brown.

nice strategyno love for welker?

im going to be staying away from percy this year.. maybe its just me i need to read some good things about him before taking that leap

Definitely no love for Welker this year despite being on the high side of projections for him last year. I think his targets take a serious hit with the addition of Lloyd.

Percy's carries make much more of an impact than you might expect. Have a look at his spotlightand you might change your mind. If you don't like Percy in the 4th, then I suggest Miles Austin or possibly Steve Smith, but no need to draft a WR in the 4th with that strategy. WR3 can be waited on... Lloyd at WR27 is the real steal. He'll be on all my redraft teams this year.

Here is Julio's spotlight if you haven't already had a look.

Yeah, that didn't work out so well for me last year. I also try to avoid risk early, which is why I took Andre Johnson in the 1st round last year. We know how that worked out. I also drafted Matt Forte in the 2nd. Looked like a powerhouse after 2 games, but then injuries hit. You can draft as "safe" as you want, but you can never predict injuries. Just draft the players you feel strongest about, and hope for the best.

Seems the last few years everyone always says QB is deep. What it boils down to is scoring. If you're in a 6 points per passing TD league, having a top 5 qb will pay dividends. If I'm drafting at the end of a snake, I'll take a chance on a QB paired with Murray or McFadden rather than wait and draft RB with even bigger question marks.
