Surprised how with everyone gobbling up rookies that Mike Evans was still on the board, all 6'5", 220 lbs of him. I think he helped Johnny Football look good more than a few times.
Debated between him & Lee. But I think although he is a physical mismatch, he will be inconsistent this year as players are bigger & more physical in the NFL

Then I guess it is a good thing he is pretty big himself. ;)

So in a situation where a guy picks someone already on the board (like just happened with FRO) it's treated like a timeout from a picks perspective and he can come back and make the pick whenever he wants? If he doesn't come back and pick within the original 8 hour time frame is it treated like a time out and his clock drops to 4 hours?

no timeout, draft rolls on, he can make his makeup pick whenever

Normally I'm not a fan of tripling up at the start-1 positions in these, but Fleener/Allen is the perfect way to do it if you're going to. You got real lucky he fell to you there.
I generally only do it in the 20 rounders. just not enough roster space in the 18s to make it work most of the time

Ugh. I do not like the 4-slot this year. At all. After the top 3 RB's there isn't really anyone I feel ought to be a lock for the 1.04 pick.

I'll probably regret not going RB, but there's no way a slam-dunk top-3 TE makes it back to me at 2.13, so ...

1.04 - Jimmy Graham, TE NOS
I would have a hard time taking Graham at the fourth pick. To much uncertainty for me.
how is marshawn not a lock at 1.04?

This isn't traditional scoring. It's PPR with tight ends getting 2 PPR and QBs getting 6 per pass TD. It's also survivor. In redraft I think Marshawn is top 6-8 (though he probably will be drafted late first again this year like past few years). In this format while he will be a solid anchor his upside is limited (you know what you're getting with him). Jimmy Graham has provided a huge advantage (aaprox 100 points over next best right end)that Marshawn traditionally hasn't.

Because it would be a very bad pick and usually these guys don't make very bad picks.

He finished 5th last year with 277 pts. RB16 scored 213 pts and RB32 147 pts.

Graham scored 390 pts. TE16 182 pts.

The top WR scored roughly 320. WR16 scored 242 pts and WR48 144 pts.

That said, feel free to join us in the Pre-draft Survivor Leagues. I'll be posting a sign up thread right as these drafts wind down and we'll start drafting late March / early April.

Hey, now, I'll have you know I make plenty of bad picks! (The prosecution calls my 6th/7th-round turn of Josh Freeman and Chris Ivory in SSL4.)

I will admit to being surprised that the top TEs didn't go off the board a lot sooner this time around, and I'm taking Megatron at 1.04 every time if I know for sure I'm able to snag Orange Julius on the way back in the 2nd. But FWIW I never even considered going RB once the top 3 were off the board.

4.13 - Russell Wilson, QB SEA
7.04 - Sam Bradford, QB STL
2.13 - C.J. Spiller, RB BUF

5.04 - Ben Tate, RB HOU

9.04 - Rashad Jennings, RB OAK

11.04 - Bernard Pierce, RB BAL

13.04 - Roy Helu Jr., RB WAS
3.04 - Jordy Nelson, WR GBP
6.13 - DeAndre Hopkins, WR HOU
8.13 - Jeremy Maclin, WR PHI
12.13 - Da'Rick Rogers, WR IND
1.04 - Jimmy Graham, TE NOS
10.13 - Travis Kelce, TE KC
Rogers is definitely the biggest risk I've taken so far - and with my roster, that says a lot. He could get cut during training camp, or he could count multiple weeks for me next season. I hate to see natural NFL talent go to waste, so here's hoping he keeps his head on straight.

I didn't really need another RB in the 13th, but I couldn't pass up Helu still sitting there at RB58. Even in limited usage last season he finished RB45, and now he gets a coach who seems to have no qualms about time-sharing his RBs. I expect him to touch the ball 8-10 times per game next season.

Nothing left for me to do this draft but find some competent special teams and throw darts at a few more WRs.

Really? Changing pick? Is that allowed? Saw you picked Joseph Fauria them next thing I know I see Lafell???
You must be confused.[/

Ok if you say so. Brandon Lafell and Joseph Fauria are pretty tough to mix up. I saw Fauria picked by you in this thread left the thread then saw another pick checked and saw you took Lafell and the Fauria pick was deleted. If you say I'm confused so be it. Doesn't really make a difference in this friendly draft just thought it was weird..
Man, you kinda like the drama don't you Jeaton. lol You are not confused, just a little dramatic. I copy and pasted from my phone and tried to make a pick swiftly. I noticed I copied the wrong thing from my note pad on my phone and instantly deleted it and replaced it with my real intended pick. I will take my mistaken pick to keep your underwear from getting in a knot, no ill intent. @ seconds must have past before I deleted it. For future reference I will not also be making picks from my phone so when it comes to me I will not want to make the same mistake again. Thanks Jeaton for bringing it to my attention, I will take my time now and be more patient to not make the same mistake again. Sorry if the draft delays because of this. I know delays really get under your skin Jeaton.
Funny coming from the guy who calls someone out for mis-stating his draft position a couple times.

Well at least you're fessing up. I mean I guess it's a lot easier to try and just act like someone doesn't know what they're talking about than just admit they made a mistake to begin with.

Please, please keep the draft thread clean.

I subscribe to the thread and get an email every time someone posts in the thread. I don't want to see 6 emails on my phone for 1 pick.

Thanks in advance for keeping the draft comments in this thread.

Done. Apologies.

Did I start that run on defense?

Defense wins championships!!!

Now who is going to take three!

:stirspot:

QB - Nick Foles PHI

QB - Johnny Manziel Rookie

RB - Doug Martin TB

RB - Trent Richardson IND

RB - Jeremy Hill Rookie

RB - Marcus Lattimore SF

WR - Dez Bryant DAL

WR - Keenan Allen SD

WR- Sammy Watkins Rookie

WR - Hakeem Nicks NYG

WR - Emmanuel Sanders PIT

TE - Charles Clay MIA

TE - Joseph Fauria DET

DT/ST - Houston Texans

In rounds 13 and 14 I added Joseph Fauria and the Houston Texans. I think the Houston Texans defense will turn it around this year. They were a top defense before last year. The whole team went off the rails last season but I think the Houston Texans defense can return to a top 10 defense. Brandon Pettigrew is a free agent this year and Fauria might have shown enough last year to take over as the Starting TE for the Lions. At worse he will score me a few weeks when he gets a TD.

This has to be the most rookie tight ends ever taken in one of these right? Is that the 4th one?
I count ASJ, Amaro, and Ebron. I'd guess that Eifert, Ertz, and Kelce went in some PDSLs last year, but maybe not the WSLa.

Good crop of TEs this year. A few like Niklas and others can be productive too.
Rookie TEs rarely do anything fantasy noteworthy is my point I guess. Other than Dwayne Allen in 2012 (45 catches 542 yards 3 tds) and Gronk in 2010 (42 catches 546 yards and 10 tds) I can't think of many others that even registered a blip in the last 10 years. I get they are lottery tickets but as the 15th TE off the board I don't see much room for upside.

On the one hand I see your point. And agree with it, incidentally - and not just for TEs but for the rookies in general where they've been drafted. Which explains why I don't have any of them on my roster as of now.

On the other, how likely is Fleener to put up a bust-out TE1-type season? Or Cook, or Ertz, or most of the other TEs who went in that general range? If it's a lottery ticket you're looking for, might as well take a stab at someone who might be the next Gronk in year 1, rather than choose from a handful of guys who've already spent between 1 and 5 seasons demonstrating that they're not.

(Incidentally, I think Ertz *can* be that kind of bust-out candidate and would have taken him there over EE, but don't see anyone else on the board then who I'd say the same about.)

Whatever that chance is, I'd say it's better than any of the rookies. Fleener finished as TE 14 last year (without Allen of course) so he was a TE1 last year in this format. Tim Wright finished as TE13 as a rookie last season but I would attribute that more to situation and being the only option other than VJax in that passing game last year. Rookie RBs and to a lesser extent WRs hit way more often than rookie tight ends.

part of it may also depend on your drafting philosphy in THIS particular format.....at 2 PPR for TE and a survivor format.....the TE position will often make or break your chances of actually winning these things......while it may be flashy and cool to draft a new toy and hope you hit a homerun (which as we've seen doesn't happen very often, if at all really)....you might be better off "settling" for that middling/boring TE that at least gets you a score when you need it.....

I guess what I am saying is that I am probably more apt to swing for the fences at RB and/or WR with a rookie than I am at TE.....at 2 PPR the few spots you can really dedicate to the position are too valuable to go against the odds/history.....granted if you hit on the next Gronk you may win the damn thing, but odds of that are slim....you may be better off landing that TE2 that ends up as TE 17-32 than gambling on a rook who may or may not bust out....you'll probably use those scores quite a bit.....

Jordan Reed - 45/499/3 - He did that while missing 7 games this season.

Time Wright - 49/513/4 - He didn't play much the first 2 weeks of the season.

Eifert and Erts had decent rookie seasons as well. Maybe its a changing landscape for rookie TE's.

BTW, muchas gracias to BSS for keeping the draft list updated up top of the draft thread - makes things lot easier when I'm on the clock. :hifive:

FYI though - there's a couple places where the numbering is off (I was adding up the numbers and couldn't figure out why it seemed like we were 3 picks short):

DT/ST - Houston Texans

In the 15th round I decided to get a 3rd TE. My TE group isn't a flashy group but between the 3 I think I will get a good score each week. My 3rd round pick was Jermaine Gresham. Obviously having Eifert there hurts his production but he will have the occasional big game and getting a few scoring weeks from him is all I'm asking for.

In the 16th round I wanted to get my 6th WR. I ended up drafting Jeremy Kerley. There were a couple of other WR's I was looking at but ultimately decided that Kerley would get me the occasional big scoring week and make and excellent 6th WR on my team. Once again if I can get a few scoring weeks out of him I will be happy.

Love the Ryan / Vick pairing for you. Fun fact: over the past 2 years Ryan has far and away the lowest week-to-week scoring variance of any QB1 in football - it's not even close. Given Vick's injury history, though, if he does get a shot somewhere, you'd better hope the Falcons have an early bye week. :D

Yeah I had him this year in a re-draft and you could pretty much pencil him in for 280-320 and 2 tds every week, Then julio got hurt, and he was still consistent

I'm really not sold on the early bye week deal anymore. Maybe last year was an aberration, but the later in the year we went, the more crippled teams were around.

i'd love to see a stat about the percentage of teams that have survived a week (or more) with no QB score.

I'm thinking it's got to be pretty high. Two years ago I made it 5 weeks as I recall with no QB and then got eliminated the week my QB came back. During the bye weeks there are usually enough teams cripple with players off and injured that you have a fighting chance.

Noted without further comment: In 2013, the correlation between the WSL ADP of a D/ST unit and the number of points they scored was 0.03.
Interesting any idea what this looked like on 2012 and 2011?
Poked around a little bit on the forum but couldn't find complete draft lists from prior years' WSLs (and probably wouldn't have the time to run all the numbers if I did). But in case this interests anyone but me, here are the approximate correlations from the 2013 WSLs between ADP and final points scored, by position:

QB (top 24): 0.35

RB (top 36): 0.10

WR (top 36): 0.29

TE (top 24): 0.08

K (top 24): 0.09

D (all 32): 0.03

I'm actually surprised there were any that high.
