xbox one vs ps4 (2 Viewers)

Reading the questions on the site, it doesn't look like all those other games are included. Confused here.

I can't imagine it is intentional that all of that comes free. I would get the deal ASAP just in case.

So I basically got Gears of War, Black Ops and Final Fantasy with a pair of headphones for cheaper than I would have gotten just the console

Many thanks to Cold Dead Hands

I will probably never play Final Fantasy or Black Ops and not sure about Gears. I wonder if I will be able to trade them in for other games or a controller

ETA, Forgot about Assassins Creed. Will play that
So help me out here guys, I have boys 15 and 12, been bugging for an xbox one for a while.

I loved gaming back in the day,but the consoles I still have are SNES, N64 etc, never had an xbox or playstaion, last console I bought for the kids was the Wii.

Is this as good as it gets for them to jump on this deal for Christmas?
From the sound of Loan who is a die hard PS guy, jump on it
Ordered. What else do I need?

That's effectively the same as the Dell BF deal except you can't get FO4 yet and it doesn't come with an extra controller.

Great deal. I'm going to be holding out for a PS4. Own both PS3 and 360. Prefer the PS exclusives.

I'm hoping PS comes close to something like that by Black Friday.

Not sure that Sony is as desperate to sell consoles as Microsoft seems to be as PS4 has sold twice as many units as XB1.

You are getting the xbox for regular price, the killer is the headset. that is a pricey item. Then you are getting a lot of new games on top of it.

You are paying regular price for the console but you are getting $230 worth of stuff added in for free retail. Even if the prices are padded retail you are still getting a massive amount of additional value for the purchase.

Yes I am a PS4 guy and part of that is the value you get for your money, this is extremely high value. Most current deals will have a game included and perhaps a $50 XBL card for a added value of ~$90.

The "headset" is the crap earbud it comes with. added value +$90 for downloadable gears and one game.

Okay. I tried.
Lol On a side note no lie, I had a customer today named Andrew Dufresne.
You should have made a reference to Shawshank Redemption. He probably would have found that fresh and witty.

Edit: We once had someone named Linda Carter apply for a position in our department. As you can imagine, this was a great opportunity for us to try to one-up each other for who is best in-house comedian, but sadly we all knew that none of us would be able to come up with anything that she hadn't heard a million times before.

I met a young lady (23-24) and her name was Ashley Mergatroyd. And for the life of me I couldn't remember which cartoon character said "Heavens to murgatroyd" So I said "I apologize in advance because you have probably heard this a million times..." and she cut me off and says "Snaggle####"

:lmao:

I have a question, but I don't think it warrants it's own thread: I have a show I want to watch tonight on Showtime (a boxing match). I don't have cable. Is there a way to get Showtime on Xbox One? Just pay a subscription?

The backwards compatible stuff is so baffling to me. Why anybody would let that factor in their choice for a new system when the old systems are virtually worthless as a trade-in just doesn't make any sense to me.

The last thing I want to do with my new system is play games on the old system. So weird
Maybe people find the games fun?
Of course, but what did you do with you PS3 or 360? Trade it in for 30 dollars?
a) Gamestop has often has deals that will get you $100 for an old system

b) People are choosing the XB1 for its BC feature because they DIDN'T have a 360 and/or they prefer the option of having the 360 catalog available with their XB1 purchase.

c) Why not get $30?

Maybe I just don't get what you're trying to say.
I would not trade in a old system if I was still using it. That is what I am saying.

That is like trading in a dirt bike for a car and being mad because you can go off roading. Then limiting your choice of car based on off road capability.

It just makes more sense to me that if you still want to dirtbike keep the bike and buy the car you want regardless of off road capability.

The issue is more like having to have 5 dirt bikes because certain trails you want to ride again each require a specific brand of bike on them.

The way it is now, I would need 5 consoles - PS3, PS4, original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One - all hooked up to play all the old games I think are worth replays. Only the PS2 was eliminated by the full back compatibility of the PS3. Though Microsoft killing the original Xbox's version of Xbox Live basically killed for me a lot of the original XBox games they decided not to make compatible on the 360.

Torn on what to do about Xbox One. I had been leaning towards waiting for the Elite with the 1 TB hybrid drive to drop Dec 1. Basically same price as adding my own 256GB external solid state drive, but I'd have 4x as much storage at the faster loading speeds, even if not quite fully as fast as an SSD would be.

I wish they had a different stable of games they were offering though. Was never really a big fan of GoW, Final Fantasy, or AC. Maybe I'd like the newer ones better, but tried early versions of them and just didn't appeal to me as much. Also, I probably wouldn't get much use out of the headphones, probably re-gift them.

PS4 guys is it possible to do a family share of digital games and PS+ across 3 consoles? I know on XB you can only do it over 2 consoles and both of my sons want an xbox for Christmas. For us to all play the same game I would have to buy 2 games and 2 live accounts.

Both RAM and a hard drive are memory. RAM is much much faster to read and write. And RAM has always been much much more expensive. But technology got to the point we can now make a whole hard drive out of something RAM-like at a reasonable price. This is called a solid state hard drive.

A solid state drive might read 5-8x faster than a normal hard drive. Not everything you do is that much faster, just things loading from disk are. But it costs about 8x as much still. A standard 1 TB (1000 GB) hard drive is $50-60, a 250 GB solid state is probably $100-120.

A hybrid hard drive is a combination of standard and solid state drives to get the best of both worlds, speed but lots of space. It has a spacious standard hard drive, but also a small chunk of solid state drive. It tries to predict what files you're going to want next, and it moves a copy of them to the solid state portion so when you call for them you get them at solid state speeds. Run the Skyrim executable and it learns you are likely to access the files in Skyrim's Data directory that define the game world, and it puts as many of them into the solid state cache as it can. Games probably work really well with hybrid drives since the files the game will later use are predictable, and they get used a lot when loading new areas. Something like Word or Excel might not see a big boost from a hybrid drive.

So they are coming out with an Xbox One on December 1st that has a 1 TB hybrid drive as its main hard drive but costs a good $100 to $150 more than the Xbox Ones which all have had standard hard drives so far. You could also get the current Xbox One and then go buy an external solid state drive you can plug into the Xbox. People have seen from 25% to 65% reduced load times depending on the exact game. But getting your own external solid state, for the same price you'd only be able to have 250GB of games getting the boost. The hybrid drive, all 1 TB could potentially get the boost.

For whatever reason, people who have posted benchmarks of PS4 with a solid state drive haven't seen a worthwhile boost. I am not sure why, just disk reads aren't driving their load times like they are for Xbox.

Looks like the newegg deal is back

Eta: my tracking number says its coming on the 9th. That means I will have it for fallout with a day off on the 11th. Life just got a little better

PR Richard is offering the 500GB with free controller and free game for 349.99. Unlike Target or the NewEgg deal, you can get Fallout 4 as the free game.

ETA: As it is...it's 50.00 less than the CRAZYINSANE!!!! Dell Black Friday deal for 299.99....so it might be worth 50.00 for some to get the deal/Fallout 4 early and guaranteed.

Kohls BF add has the Ps4/ONE's(only the LEGO MOVIE bundle) 500GB bundles for 299.99 with no added extras...but you get 15.00 in Kohl's Cash for 50.00 spent......so technically that should be around 90.00 back in Kohl's Cash. Not the best deal for an adult gamer.......but might be great for a kid and a wife who likes to shop at Kohls.

NewEgg's replacing the Final Fantasy with NBA2K15 today.
Oof, now it's even more tempting. I never got into Final Fantasy when I tried it, but I wouldn't mind another sports game.

I'm a little worried 500 GB is going to feel kind of small for the hard drive after awhile. If games are going to be like FO4 and take up 40 GB, and especially if going with digital downloads instead of having a physical disk, I could see that filling up fast.

Most of the bundles with the games that interest me are 500 GB drives. :(

You're right on. You can plug any USB3 drive and plug it in for extra storage. I have a 3TB Western Digital I hooked up. Tons of storage.

At least on the Xbone its more like 365GB available. Good thing adding a little external drive is cheap and super easy.

By the way, after researching, the PS4 if you add an external drive you cannot put games on it apparently, unlike the Xbox. However, it's easy to replace the original hard drive in the PS4 if it comes to it, and Sony has instructions out for doing it.

Is there any chance PS makes a change and decides they will make the 4 backwards compatible. That may make my decision a lot easier.

ETA: Any chance prices come down some during holiday season. As much as I want to be involved in the fallout thread from day 1, if there will be a price cut, I may be able to wait a month or so
Probably not on the first point. They're KIND of doing it already with their PSNow service, which is a $20/month subscription that allows you to stream play a good number of PS3 games on the PS4. I'm sure there's a list of available games somewhere.Prices are already down a bit. There are good bundles and if you buy now and the price drops there may be a price match guarantee you could use.
Thanks. I have been trying to weigh the bundles. It is very odd that different games have different prices.

It comes down to the star wars ps4 bundle for 350 and then buy fallout (but wait a week since SW is a 11/17 launch) or the fallout xbox bundle for 400. Unless I listen to Bucky and get the last of us bundle for $429. But that doesnt seem worth the extra $79. Can just buy the game for that

Read the first three pages of this thread last night, will try to read the rest at work today. Have to say, I cant seem to make a decision. Both seem to be just as good as each other this time around.

Sorry, rambling to myself. Need to also think about my 6 year old as Im sure he will start getting into it
Best Buy has a deal next week, starts Sunday, Get a $50 gift card plus a free game with purchase of XBox1. Pretty good deal. Believe Target has matched it as well in case you have the redcard (save 5%). Buy it Tuesday and get FO4 as the free game.
This is awesome. I ran over to best buy.com and it looks like it is going on now, not next week. This may be the winner since I get the free game and the gift card which I can use for another controller

ETA: Fallout not available for free yet
Hold the phone. Newegg has this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868105143&ignorebbr=1

Gears of War XB1 bundle for $349 plus $8 shipping. Includes: Turtle Beach DXL1 headphones, Final Fantasy Type=0, CoD Black Ops III, and Assassins Creed Unity. So XB1, 4 games, and $80 pair of headphones.
Holy ####, I would buy that now if I wanted a xbox. That may be the best deal I have ever seen.
Thank you for ordering from Newegg.com.
