Your complete Week 16 weather HQ - with Doppler RADAR (1 Viewer)

Tenn with 15mph winds-- are the kickers still in play with this? I think I have read 20mph is the point where wind factors kickers- but we all know Fisher passed on a 49yder last week because of a "Breeze" in Houston's open roof dome

What about kickers? Does the ball go dead in cold weather, or does the temp not really matter?
If you watched the Bears-Saints game last Thursday night, neither Gould nor Hartley (a dome kicker) were negatively impacted by the weather. I wouldn't bench a good kicker in the cold unless I had a clearly stronger alternative. For example, if Crosby is your kicker, I wouldn't bench him for someone like Joe Nedney. I'd go with Crosby because nine times out of 10 he's going to deliver better production.
My kicker is Matt Prater. It will be cold in Mile High, but Buffalo is the kind of semi-stout defense a kicker thrives against. I figure that Prater gets 3 attempts against that kind of defense. But I am considering dropping him for Jason Hanson (DET) home vs NO. Not sure there is any real difference between the two, other than that Prater was hot early and has not been noteworthy lately. Hanson in the dome against a weak defense might be money. We get a 3-point bonus for kicks of 50+ yards, so both are tasty for that reason, but Hanson is more tasty. Are LONG kicks in cold weather less likely to happen - that might be the better question...The real question I am trying to answer for myself is who would you rather have kicking this weekend: Prater (cold), Hanson, Hartley, Gostkowski (cold, maybe precip), Gould (cold), Kris Brown, or Mason Crosby (cold)? Those are my options. 3 pts bonus for 50+ FGs. Sorry for the WDIS-type question. I'd kind of like to know the logic behind a given answer, if that makes it any better.

-Will
I just picked up Hartley and dropped Crosby. Crosby is a great kicker, but he is playing in cold and possibly windy conditions. Hartley is playing Det in a dome. Hartley has averaged 3 PAT and 2 FG per game. I'll take that production.

saw this posted on another board :"they've showed the stadium a couple times so far on the NFL Network early morning pregame show. the snowflakes look like they are the size of dinner plates...and they are coming down hard. they said the crew can't clean it up fast enough."I don't have the network ( thanks time warner) can anyone confirm?
What game is this referring to?

The current forecast for the Dolphins-Chiefs game has it starting windy but then the winds dying down significantly as the game goes along. So that doesn't look like it will be a major problem.
Since I live in KC I figured I would post the forecast as it is today (since it seems to change every 6 hour or so)Game time - Sunny to partly cloudy. Very cold. Wind chills approaching -10F. High 11F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph.Just walking outside, it is freakin cold but right now the wind is not too bad (says right now that it is 10 MPH). It it gets to 20-30 I would say that will have an impact.ETA: Walking outside = about 10 Miles from the stadium
Keep chiming in with local updates but the hour-by-hour forecast on Weather.com still has winds of no more than 20 mph. That should be manageable and as we saw last week in KC, what was expected to be extreme against the passing games had no serious impact whatsoever.

The Browns-Bengals game still looks like it will be brutal. It's going to be very difficult for those planning to start Houshmandzadeh or Edwards today. Two weak-armed QBs in a game which could see winds approaching 40 mph looks awful.

The Weather Channel's web site has the current forecast at 14 mph winds in Chicago for Monday night. That's not bad and shouldn't impact Rodgers or Orton (Orton will have enough trouble just being Kyle Orton).
Bears and Packers are very lucky their game is a Monday night game and not a noon game here in Chicago today. It's currently -5 F (-30 F Windchill)....that seems like it would be dangerously cold weather to play in. By Monday night, it will heat up to a balmy 8 F (and a 0 F windchill).

They're still forecasting light winds tomorrow night. That will help the Packers' passing game and it puts Orton back in play for those considering him.

Completely agree with you about last week. The wind here has picked up over the last hour but it is still in the 15 MPH range at this point, so unless it picks up significantly in the next 2.5 hours I have to agree that it should not be worrisome for the passing game. The Miami players may not appreciate the cold but the wind is so far so good.

I need to start Fitz,I need to Start Fitz............Oh pleeeeze I don't want to have to play T.Holt. :(

I saw the Gillette stadium on NFL Network too. They reported ongoing snow fall (looked pretty normal, not a tremendous amount going down), and 18 mph winds. Snow has basically been falling there since Friday. The field looked clear but will have ice cover on it much like KC is dealing with. Temp is 32 degrees right now.

The Browns-Bengals game still looks like it will be brutal. It's going to be very difficult for those planning to start Houshmandzadeh or Edwards today. Two weak-armed QBs in a game which could see winds approaching 40 mph looks awful.
Yea, I was planning on starting Edwards at flex, but Dorsey + this wind = qb rating approaching single digits, imo. I'm going to figure out another option.

Weather Channel has their Sunday coverage guy stationed at Foxoboro, looks like it's coming down really hard there. An ominous sign when your starters are playing at the location the Weather Channel selects as their coverage spot for the day.

I have Housh in my PPR league and I hate sitting him against the Browns but there's no way I'm starting him if the weather still looks this bad near game time - and I'm not sure there's any reason at this point to believe there will be any change.

They just showed Arrowhead on the NFL and it looked pretty bad. They said the temp was around 0, but with the wind the weather will feel like 20 below. Field is a hard as rock, since they do not have heading elements under the field.

NFL just showed NE field - the field is covered with snow and the snow is still coming down. I am sure they will still plow the field since there are tractors on the field. The snow appeared to thick (wet) and the field could be rather sloppy (imo). There did not appear to be too much wind.

Let me say even in just the last 20 minutes the wind has picked up.Wind: From WNW at 14 mph gusting to 23 mph

I am not sure how gusting winds affect things but it is over 20 mph gusting, just not continuous.

Packersfan do you think this weather makes Clev D a legitmate play then? I have NYG D but I'm scared to death of the Panthers running game.

If it were me, I'd start the superior defense and that's the Giants. But yes, I do think the Browns are looking better this week given the horrible weather.

Anyone got an update for Denver, preferably live video link? Just saw a live feed from Foxboro and seriously reconsidering my Cassel over Cutler decision.

No live video but according to the weather channel it seems to be a decent day. Temps at 14 (wind chill 4) with wind at 6 MPH. Does not seem like a bad day for a passer.

No snow/rain/sleet?ETA: NM, just looked it up at weather.com, looks clear. Thanks

KC Weather again.Definitely noticably more wind.

According to weather channel: Wind From WNW at 16 mph gusting to 26 mph

Obviously it has just gone up 3 MPH but that is within the last 30 minutes. And the gusts are pretty brutal at times.

I really hope that FBG does something regarding the weather for this weekend. I don't mean just a weather report...
I agree, as a paying subscriber, I expect them to make the weather good for my players while bad for my opponent ;)In all seriousness though, it would be nifty if they could do perhaps a couple breaking news e-mails specifically about the weather ahead of the games tomorrow. That would be excellent. -QG
It looks like Sigmund Bloom tweaked his projections a little (at least for Randy Moss), however, I do not see any change from David Dodds. Moss looks way too high. I think Welker is a better play. ETA: Dodds just updated a few :thumbup:I still think Welker is a better play, however!

:goodposting: I had never seen that (I just infer based on the actual report). This is pretty nice stuff. Thanks for sharing.
The hour-by-hour info is good to use as well. Using the KC-Miami game, it appears the wind won't potentially become a serious issue at Arrowhead until the very end of the game.

Thanks, I favor CLEV because my league gives points for return yardage.

Any updates from Seattle? I have to choose between Cotchery or Ocho Johnson. Looks like bad weather in both places.
Cotchery and Carlson owner so I've been watching that one closely too. So far, the forecast continues to call for very mild winds. It will snow and maybe rain and that's not good but as long as it isn't windy I'm not sitting either of the two guys on my roster in that game.

okay, guys, I know this has been asked and answered many times over the years- but at what wind speed do kickers start to have problems? Thanks~!

lady on espn at gilette just said winds are ok at stadium now but boston propoer has wind gusts of 40mph+ and those gusts are headed towards the stadium. it is snowing and will turn to sleet mix. i'm gonna play big ben or danny o over warner. have mercy on me.

I think I'm playing Big Ben over Cassel. This sucks.

but how long are they gonna take to get there? :goodposting:

I live in Denver and just drove by the stadium. Weather is fine; clear and cold about 16 deg now. Should be fine day just cold and dry; no snow at all.

Someone posted in the Warner thread that they are the stadium now and the weather is awful. Sounds like it has arrived.

anyone in Cleveland? I am trying to decide between Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes. I have Braylon in now, but if the winds are really THAT bad I'd change it. I remember the game early in the year with the Bengals where the ball was just flying everywhere because of the wind. Is it THAT bad?
