Your Favorite Movie Soundtracks (1 Viewer)

I would add

The Commitments

Rent (I haven't seen the movie, so I would opt for the Broadway version)

Walk the Line

These are interesting because the actors in the move also perform the songs for the soundtrack. The Commitments is less impressive because I believe the actors were chosen more for their singing than their acting. Walk the line however is Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I bet that Ray fits in this category as well, I just haven't seen it.

The Matrix

Spawn

Colors

She's Having A Baby

Forrest Gump

Lost Boys

Purple Rain

Batman

City of Angels

Say Anything

Off the top of my head...

Empire Records

Donnie Darko

O Brother

Dazed

Eddie and the Cruisers for sure...

Trivia: The "lyrics" sung on the Gladiator soundtrack aren't lyrics at all. It's a made up gibberish language that Lisa Garrard made up when she was a kid. Sorta like speaking in tongues, I guess.
Lisa Garrard from Dead Can Dance? Whoa... nice bit o' trivia there- I had no idea (and hers is a tough voice not to recognize).

This is just a fantastic list. But my favorite of all is Basquiat. OK movie, but ridiculously good soundtrack, and not only are the songs great, but they fit the time in the movie perfectly.1. Van Gogh Boat - Michael Wincott2. Public Image - Public Image Ltd.3. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (Theme) - Van Morrison4. Suicide Hotline (Dialogue And Music Montage) - Nick Marion Taylor5. I'm Not In Love - Toadies6. Is That All There Is? - PJ Harvey7. White Lines - GrandMaster Flash And Melle Mel8. Rise - Tripping Daisy9. These Days - Joy Division10. She Is Dancing - Brian Kelly11. Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets To The Wind In Copenhagen) - Tom Waits12. A Small Plot Of Land - David Bowie13. Summer In Siam - Pogues14. The Last Song I'll Ever Sing - Gavin Friday15. Hallelujah - John Cale

Looks good -- I'll have to give it a listen. I saw the movie a long time ago, but for some reason don't remember the soundtrack.

Oh yeah, another good one is The Mission by Ennio Morricone.(An underrated movie, too.)
Too funny - after seeing your list of more "scored" soundtracks (vs compilations of written songs), this was the movie I thought of.

Daft Punk's Tron is a good one too.

Regarding the Donnie Darko soundtrack - I never made the connection that it contained both "Never Tear Us Apart" AND "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Cool..

I'd forgotten how great the soundtrack to Run Lola, Run is. :headbang:
You may already know this amazon trivia:Most of the tunes on this disc are credited to the trio of Tykwer/Klimek/Heil--the threesome of film director Tom Tykwer, techno producer John Klimek, and Rynhold Heil (best known as the producer of German pop import 99 Luftballons by Nena)

I knew Tykwer was involved but not the 99 Luftballons dude. Cool.

These posts reminded me of the great soundtrack for "Christiane F " - Bowie.

Lots of great choices here - you can always count on a Cameron Crowe and a Jonathan Demme soundtrack to be great. Someone mentioned "Married to the Mob," another great Demme not on this list is "Something Wild.""Valley Girl" is probably my favorite of all time. "Risky Business" is great if you're old enough to have seen that movie in the theater - hearing the Tangerine Dream track "Love on a Real Train" is an instant time machine to being 15 years old again. Also, from recent years, "Adventure Land" is really good, though the inclusion of "Rock Me Amadeus" is very close to a deal-breaker.

Lots of good ones (Singles, Judgement night, Repo and Into the Wild)

The only one that I really like that has not been mentioned is Pump up the Volume
