It's too bad that the main title is so cliche since the rest of the soundtrack is really good. The 20 minute final track is amazing.More old guy picks:
The Man From Snowy River
Chariots of Fire
How The West Was Won
Lisa Garrard from Dead Can Dance? Whoa... nice bit o' trivia there- I had no idea (and hers is a tough voice not to recognize).Andy Dufresne said:Trivia: The "lyrics" sung on the Gladiator soundtrack aren't lyrics at all. It's a made up gibberish language that Lisa Garrard made up when she was a kid. Sorta like speaking in tongues, I guess.
This is just a fantastic list. But my favorite of all is Basquiat. OK movie, but ridiculously good soundtrack, and not only are the songs great, but they fit the time in the movie perfectly.1. Looks good -- I'll have to give it a listen. I saw the movie a long time ago, but for some reason don't remember the soundtrack. This is just a fantastic list. But my favorite of all is Basquiat. Too funny - after seeing your list of more "scored" soundtracks (vs compilations of written songs), this was the movie I thought of.Andy Dufresne said:Oh yeah, another good one is The Mission by Ennio Morricone.(An underrated movie, too.)
The one with all the vocal songs or just the instrumental tracks? Can't get enough of Donnie Darko soundtrack.
The actual songs. The instrumentals are pretty cool too.The one with all the vocal songs or just the instrumental tracks? Can't get enough of Donnie Darko soundtrack.
It's great. But I like how it's arranged in the theatrical cut rather than director's.Can't get enough of Donnie Darko soundtrack.
Thanks. Looks like a good one.I looked it up and it said there were 2 versions. The actual songs. The one with all the vocal songs or just the instrumental tracks? Can't get enough of Donnie Darko soundtrack.

Vangelis is labeled as corny because of his main Chariots of Fire theme, but that entire soundtrack is really good. The 20 minute end track is epic.Gato Barbieri's
Many good ones already listed, but Ill add...Into the Wild - Eddie Vedder
First time I ever heard Mother Love Bone with "Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns".Awesome song and band - Andrew Wood was some talent.Singles

Lots of great choices here - you can always count on a Cameron Crowe and a Jonathan Demme soundtrack to be great. Someone mentioned "Married to the Mob," another great Demme not on this list is "Something Wild."

Her movies can annoy the hell out of me, but yeah- her taste in music runs exactly parallel to mine. All of the Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppla movies have great soundtracks and scores.
Yvonne Elliman's version of " I Don't Know How To Love Him" is my favorite female vocal arrangement/performance of all-time.ETA: Yvonne 1970 album versionJesus Christ Superstar (though I much prefer the studio LP)
