His old Sharri's Berries promo still kills me

Yep, it wasn't that exact one, but one of them was a Sharri's Berries promo. The one that really got me was for MeUndies or some damn thing.

It's an interview talk show between the host (history professor Gerry Prokopowicz) and various authors. One of the curious things about ACW literature is how about 20-30% of it is written by professional academic historians or narrative historians, while the bulk of what is published is from non-professional (lawyers, doctors, engineers, CW buffs) with a passionate avocation. It's a fascinating dichotomy.

Anyway, the host has a style that appeals to me. Most guests are authors but they also have folks on the fringe of the ACW community: bookstore owner, re-enactor, museum director. Plus I like that he mixes up the authors between battle history and social commentary, or sometimes just oddball stuff. Last week was a couple 22 year old girls who wrote a book called "Badass Civil War Beards."

There is some stuff that drives me nuts about this show (Liz Clarke being #1) but I know I love it because of how pissed I get when he stays home and doesn't do a show because DC got 3 inches of snow.

About 15 minutes long, they come out rarely (only about 15 episodes so far), and they cover interesting stories around crime - not usually the crime itself, but how morticians are weird or how some guy selling a fake cancer cure is causing venus flytrap poaching.

What is Criminal?

Podcast where every story is connected to a crime, though not necessarily about the crime. For example they had an episode about how a family handled the media frenzy when 2 family members were gunned down in a mass shooting. Or how a guy's life got destroyed when he was wrongly arrested for being part of a child porn ring.

I've been starting to listen to this one. Agreed; he's no Duncan. But still a good listen for anyone who enjoyed History of Rome.

First of all, the movie looks completely unfunny and recycled podcast material.

But guest hosts for his podcasts, fewer new podcasts, and i'm starting to turn a bit.

Adam needs someone in the Alison seat who washes his balls non stop apparently.

Also, the Bung Loo Soo / Jo Koy shtick has finally run it's course.

I enjoy The Best Show, which also has a nice community attached to it. It's definitely not humor with broad appeal, but the running gags are great. It airs live on Tuesday nights but they have a podcast up within a day or so.

I've started the History of England, which I would review similarly - it's pretty dry (esp at first) but the guy adds a Duncan-esque level of sarcasm as it goes on. Frankly my biggest issue is understanding the guy's accent sometimes.

Oh - now I got it. Talk about a grudge - that was over 10 years ago and he admitted it and apologized. He seems to be pretty well liked across the comedy community these days.

The Boudica episodes were pretty interesting though. The podcaster lives in America, so no accent issue with him.

I tried that one before The History of England. It is well-reviewed (better than HoE IIRC) but that guy gave off a huge pompous hipster vibe which I just couldn't handle personally.

my thought as well. The quality of the show over the last month seems to be off moreso cuz of his promotional schedule. I still don't know if I like Gina any better or worse than Allison, but she doesn't seem to offer much more than Allison (which can be a good thing or bad thing).

I still like the in studio shows.
