Your favorite Podcast (1 Viewer)

I'm way behind you guys on most of these, but listened to S-Town on my drive to the beach.

Interesting I guess, but not sure I could recommend it.  The "main character" is an interesting and vaguely tragic figure.  Lots of false starts on where the story is going that don't really end up anywhere, payoff is iffy at best but the ride is ok.

To lazy to check if I've already pimped it, but check out The Dollop.

Two comedians pick a historical event every episode and riff on it. Funny stuff.

I'm 198 episodes into this one, and it still kills me.  Great stuff.

Funny exchange between Doug and another comedian from the podcast Doug Loves Movies a few weeks ago:

DOUG: "I was at a hotel Jacuzzi, and there was a sign that read,
"Guests should refrain from using Jacuzzi when afflicted with diarrhea in the last eight days."

ANOTHER COMEDIAN: "There are people that go eight straight days without diarrhea?"

Taking a break from the slog through Jocko Podcasts to check out one that he recommended and recently did a three way podcast with Jocko, Daniele Bolelli and Darryl Cooper. Below is Darryl's podcast, only 10 episodes but the first couple, Fear & Loathing in the New Jerusalem, have been excellent. If you are interested in the backstory and history of the Jewish state, how it came to be and all the topics that go along with it, I highly recommend it. Definitely has a Dan Carlan feel to it with the level of detail he goes into.

Martyrmade Podcast

Not sure if mentioned but I've enjoyed "Your Favorite Band Sucks" hosted by Tyler Mahan Coe (David Allan's son).   The pick a different band each episode to pretty much rip to shreds to prove their point.

He also does one called Cocaine And Rhinestones, delving into the history and origins of country music.

I've been pretty impressed by TMC as a host.    Dude definitely puts in the work, time and research for his podcast endeavors.

You say that like we know who David Allan is.  Who is David Allan?

Check out the Onion's "A Very Fatal Murder."  So freakin funny and a spot-on parody of Serial, S-Town, etc...  Really great work.
Downloaded this today.  The bit where he has the grieving parents read the ad copy nearly made me spit coffee onto my dashboard.

this was hilarious.  loved the post office spot in the last episode.  tired of waiting in line at the post office?  well #### you.

if you liked this one also try Done Disappeared.  especially if you listened to Up and Vanished and thought the guy was a total doosh.

Waking Up, Hardcore History, The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe, and Common Sense. In that order. Everything else can get in line.

About last night is fantastic.

they had Jeff Garlin on and Brad Williams did a hilarious impersonation of Jimmy Buffet

Garlins story of losing his virginity was :lmao:

@jdoggydogg - have you tried Unspooled?   It's Paul from HDTGM and Amy (who I think does the Canon podcast) as they are watching the movies from the AFI top 100.  They have a couple episodes, and it's been interesting listening to him talk about movies that aren't atrocious.

Also I thought of you while listening to another movie podcast - I Love It But I Hate It.   It's not a must listen each week, but I will listen if they do something I am familiar with.  It's two Canadian women talking about movies and their episode about The Shape of Water was pretty damn funny.

Yeah, I'm subscribed to Unspooled. Good stuff. I haven't heard the other one but I'll check it out.

Without reading through 32 pages, can anyone recommend some good crime podcasts?  Loved the first season of Serial, not so much the 2nd season.  Any other good ones?

You may want to check out these two, Dirty John and S-Town. Of the two, I've only caught episode 1 of S-Town and my opinion is presently undeveloped.

Criminal is good but its not a serial podcast. Each episode is self-contained.

Also - Trump, Inc.

@PlayaHata

In the Dark S1 is damn good but as a parent was a hard listen.  I was bawling listen to this one.    S2 has been pretty good so far too, but not nearly as hard to listen to.

Up and Vanished was also very good.  They have a lot of supplemental episodes that aren't mandatory to listen to - Q&As, case files, etc..

Someone Knows Something has had some decent season.  If I remember correctly, I think S2 was good.

My Favorite Murder is another decent one that talks about different crimes/murders, but it's not a season long development like Serial is.

I also didn't like S2 of Serial and I thought S-Town was pretty underwhelming overall.

I've been checking out Opie Radio.  As a long time O&A guy, it's kind of fun seeing Opie trying to start something new from the ground up.  He's only like 9 episodes in, mostly with Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley.  It's pretty funny

Side note:  It's really annoying when I go to check out a new podcast only for them to spend the first 20-30 minutes plugging and doing live reads.

I'm looking at you Bert Kreischer and Guys We've ****ed.

Give me the show, then tell me where/how to get more not the other way around

I disagree with this.

It's fair to advertise at the start and end of the podcast, just don't barrage me with ads in the middle.

There are bunch of podcasts I used to listen to that just advertise way too much in the middle of the podcast. There is so much competition in the podcast landscape it's pretty easy to just move on and try something new. Carolla, This Week In Tech, and Burr are definitely a few that I used to listen all the time but the ad's drove me away.

The ads at the beginning and the end are okay if it's done quickly like Rogan's podcast.  Rogan will get to his ads beginning and end but doesn't spend another 10-15 minutes running through the dates/times of his stand up shows.  That's what's driving me up the wall with some of these comedian podcasts.

Last time I listend to JRE the ads went thru the 5 minute mark.  Actually have it on my settings to start it at 300 seconds.

how did Burr's ads drive you away?  sometimes those are the funniest bits on the show.

Tried a few episodes of "Stuff to Blow Your Mind" from the How Stuff Works people. The ones I've listened to have been good. Obviously if I don't care for the subject, I don't bother with them. Soon I'll probably give their "Ridiculous History" one a try too.
Thanks for this, some of these look really cool
