YouTube Musician Thread (1 Viewer)

So started with twitch tonight and will convert some of the better performances to youtube eventually

Will eventually get a facecam as well and learn to switch from piano view back to face view as I play

And will eventually learn to upload these to youtube, but for now

Feel free to subscribe to the channel and it will give you a heads up when I stream. I'm going to try and make it 2 or 3 nights a week.

Tonight was almost all requests...some piano only, some piano and streaming, a lot of flipping around for different lead sheets...

Enjoy--I know it's very amateurish but it's a start for me:

2nd broadcast was HORRID (mic fell over, sound sucked, I missed about 500 notes but it was almost all improv so I think it'll improve with some better structure and practice).

http://www.twitch.tv/coolchessdude/v/39883837

The beginning is rock covers

"Baby I Love Your Way" 3:20

"Amanda" - Boston: 6:20

"Dreams" - Fleetwood mac 11:50

"Dust In The Wind" - 16:20

"Every Breath You Take" - 20:55

Random Jazz - 27:50 through 43:40

A very bad version of "Wonderwall" - I played it in D and kept missing notes, apparently the song is supposed to be played in A hence the missed notes: 44:40

The last 10 minutes or so I did about half sing/play covers of "Home Sweet Home" and "Tiny Dancer"

Will be back on later tonight for all requests.

Bender have you ever worked at one of those Howl At The Moon piano bars?
I haven't.

Played in a few bands in my day, but no. I'm self taught - I can't read music for ####, I can't play classical. I need the chords (lead sheet) and I'm good to go. The books I'm always flipping around in on the stream are "fake" books. They give you the words and the chords.

I could and the only reason is I'm more like Sour shoes than an accomplished pianist.

Sour Shoes isn't a great singer or player, but he can play anything. That's sort of me. I take requests from Twitch chat and play them regardless of the genre.

"Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift last night was a chat request and so I just put it together on the spot.

My chops are getting there though.

Thanks for the support all. If you do have twitch and want a heads up when I go live, send me a PM and I'll shoot you my twitter address to announce when I'm about to stream.

Along these lines.. if you could somehow connect with a more established twitch pianist and set up some kind of dual stream dueling piano type thing I think that'd be cool and help exposure. Just spit balling here.

I went a few times and it seems like they'd just shtick it up...not sure if reading music was a requirement or not

I think you just had to know how to play Journey and Bon Jovi and hot pop songs

Had to bust out my lighter on Home Sweet Home. Hard to hear but it sounds like you've got a good voice too!

Nice work, keep it up!

Firing up my stream in about 10 mins.

Rock cover songs only tonight.

Feel free to stop by and request something

Ya - I drank way too much to stream tonight :bag:

Thanks for dropping by Aristocrat!  Called it early though - it was going downhill very quickly.

I could have sworn that we had a thread specifically dedicated to attractive female musicians on YouTube (acoustic girl, Laura Cox, etc.), but I just spent 10 minutes doing searches and haven’t found it. This thread is the closest I could find (acoustic girl link on page one).

Anyway, this video isn’t new, but I just discovered it and it is my favorite of the genre at the moment. Girl can sing and has some real chops on the drums.

I can pretty much guarantee that this girl is @Otis-approved.

Oh for those that used to watch my stream.

I have a full on professional set up now. Everything hard wire directly into the computer so there is no sound loss like there was for an open air mic.

I still take chat requests, and sometimes but out the guitar.

Never saw this thread and just found it going through the FBG rabbit hole after posting about Masse earlier today.

It then prompted me to search for someone and can't believe he's never been mentioned here (as far as I can tell with the FBG search engine).

I'm sure some of you have seen this or heard of him, but this video by Jake Shimabukuro is one of my favorite YouTube videos of all time:

Jake Shimabukuro: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (make sure you watch until the end)

Another:  Let's Dance

@bigbottom has hopefully seen already.

Yeah, he is absolutely amazing.  I have a couple of his albums on CD.  Makes sense that I know him well given that I’m part Japanese with Hawaiian roots and play the uke.  I think he’s been mentioned in a thread or two here over the years.

Okay, not a YouTube musician per se, but it’s a YouTube video of a Harvard a capella group live performance that is just jaw-droppingly good. Certainly the best large group a capella performance I’ve ever heard.  My buddy’s daughter is the blond soloist. Everything is freaking amazing with this group. Percussion is on point and the guy doing bass is uber-talented. The harmonies are perfect and the vocal tones of the different voices blend amazingly (particularly at the end).  And the two soloists are incredible. Whether you’re a fan of a cappella or not, it’s worth a listen (particularly through headphones). There’s a reason that it has two million views.

All for Us

Okay, this YouTube guitarist has worked out an interesting and hyper-narrow niche. Basically he takes popular songs and then adds an electric guitar part over the top that is in the style of Def Leppard’s Hysteria album. I’m admittedly a fan of that style so I find these videos super enjoyable.
