Zach Thomas (1 Viewer)

question relating to thomas. Anyone watching the game know whether or not Crowder shifted to the middle when he got hurt? Curious to know.....

how could he have separated it? He didn't even hit him. Was it maybe a dislocation and not a separation?

Miami's Thomas to miss time with injury

NFL.com wire reports

DAVIE, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2005) -- Dolphins coach Nick Saban expects to be without defense leader Zach Thomas for two or more games.

"It's safe to say he's going to be out for a couple of games, I don't know," Saban said of the middle linebacker, who separated his right shoulder on Nov. 20 at Cleveland.

Thomas' status for the rest of the season was not known as doctors evaluated the severity of the injury sustained in the first half of the Dolphins' 22-0 drubbing at the hands of the Browns.

Saban said the seriousness of Thomas' injury would determine options, ranging from playing in a shoulder harness to having surgery. The Dolphins play at Oakland on Nov. 27.

Thomas, the club's leading tackler and its vocal and emotional sparkplug, got hurt trying to hit Browns rookie quarterback Charlie Frye. Thomas charged Frye and attempted to wrap his arms around the QB, who got off his throw.

There was minimal contact, but Thomas immediately grabbed his forearm and headed toward the sideline while grimacing in pain.

Thomas has led Miami in tackles in eight of the past nine seasons, has made five Pro Bowls and is the longest-tenured Dolphin. He has 123 tackles and two sacks this season.

Saban said the team would likely use rookie Channing Crowder at Thomas' middle linebacker position, with reserve Donnie Spragan stepping in at outside linebacker.

Start CHANNING CROWDER!

It's CROWDER time, baby!    :boxing:
i'm with you on crowder, not too great but about 7-8 points every week. he will only get better
Seau is also out for the season so Crowder will get plenty of PT. Does anybody know if he will play ILB or OLB? I think Pope took over the other position.

He's moving to MLB to replace Thomas.
Nov 23 Miami Dolphins LB Channing Crowder will move from weak-side linebacker to replace LB Zach Thomas (shoulder) at middle linebacker for Week 12
I just wish they would tell us how long he's going to be out so I know if he'll be back in time for my playoffs or if I need to pick up a new player.

he's out 2 weeks for sure... which could be extended to the end of the season... pick up crowder or another suitable replacement and wait for a week or 2... also, seau being out the season does increase the PT for crowder... with the LB corp thinning out, crowder will have to stay in on all downs including passing downs...

This guy is a monster...

Dolphins | Thomas more concerned about ankle

Fri, 25 Nov 2005 12:19:14 -0800

Miami Dolphins LB Zach Thomas (ankle/shoulder) says his ankle injury is a bigger concern to him than his shoulder injury. Thomas will not play in Week 12 and is hoping to return wearing a shoulder harness in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills.

This is the latest I read:

Nov 25 Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins LB Zach Thomas (shoulder, ankle) suffered a torn labrum instead of the separated shoulder as previously reported. Thomas is optimistic about returning for Week 13, but has admitted that he tends to rush himself back from injuries before they are healed. Thomas will visit Dr. James Andrews in Alabama on Monday, Nov. 28, to get a second opinion.
Anyone know how long a torn labrum normally takes to heal?

The link below is from Johns Hopkins and gives a pretty good overview of labrum injuries. In summary, treatment depends on the severity (grade). The last paragraph indicates healing time is between 8-12 weeks. Thomas is a tough nut, but this does not seem to bode well for the remainder of the season if he indeed has a torn labrum.

Crap, that doesn't look good at all. I hope thay give a more definitive time frame soon so I know if I need a new LB for the playoffs.

Wow, I wasn't expecting this news.

Nov 28 Craig Barnes, of the Sun Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins LB Zach Thomas (shoulder, ankle) was cleared by Dr. James Andrews to play Monday, Nov. 28. He will wear a harness on his shoulder and is going to try to play Week 13.

Better put your pickle back in the jar...
Nov 30 Miami Dolphins LB Zach Thomas (shoulder/ankle) was medically cleared to return to practice, but he is listed as doubtful for Week 13. Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said that he would not play.

That's ok. I've already clinched a 1st round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, so this week and next don't affect me. I'm just thrilled I'll have him for the playoffs after reports that he may be done for the year.

In this league, the higher seed gets a 15 point bonus (scores are usually in the 200s) in every playoff game except the championship game which is "played on a neutral site."

That's interesting, never heard of that.

Zach is not on the injury report. I think I'll be starting him.....even if he does leave early, he'll probably rack up more tackles than most LBs.
