Vegas (7 Viewers)

Pretty much.  Can't see any big names playing anywhere as its too hard to make money.  Was surprised to see Barry Manilow on the list.
That's one of the things holding us back from going. We love the restaurants, shows and concerts so much that it's just not even close to the same type of trip without those.

Yeah, I live 100 miles from 10 casinos.  I go to vegas for the experience more than gambling (outside of the sportsbook).

FF League I run is celebrating our 20th year next year and we've decided to have the draft next year in Vegas to celebrate.

So I'm looking for recommendations from FBGs for a hotel suite (or more likely an executive suite) that's big enough to hold a draft. Some considerations:

1. We have a huge economic disparity amongst the group, one guy will be flying his own plane to Vegas while some others will likely have to dip into their savings to make this trip work.

2. I started looking into AirBnB/VRBOs off the Strip and I just don't see the point.  We're in Vegas, so minimal sleep, no down time, and need quick access to casinos, sports books, cabanas by the pool, etc.

3. I've stayed at one of the nicer suites at Wynn Encore, which would be perfect, but I'm really aiming for a more mid-level hotel (New York New York, Ballys, Trop, etc.) so everyone can possibly afford to stay there (see #1) but I'm not having any luck finding that.

Any and all advice is appreciated!
Thought I'd provide a quick update on the Vegas suites research I discussed above.  Mostly due to the recommendations you guys provided, here are the five choices I gave my league mates:

   1. Planet Hollywood
   2. Wynn-Encore
   3. Caesars Palace
   4. Vdara
   5. Golden Nugget - CIRCA

I offered to throw in $500 per night to cover the suite for two nights, with additional cost for these suites to be covered by each owner.  Keep in mind, these prices are for the first weekend of the NFL season, so I assume they may not be indicative of other weekends.  I included the following descriptions for each place, along with some cool photos of each suite (not shown here):

Hotel - Suite:  Planet Hollywood - Views Suite

Price $1,700/night – 1,255 sf w/ 1 BR

Individual Bedrooms (1 King or 2 Queens): $150-$200 min./night

Location: Central Strip, Great

Notes:  Older lower-end hotel, great location, awesome views of the Strip, cheaper individual rooms can make up for extra cost of suite.

Extra Cost to Each Owner: $220

Hotel - Suite:  Wynn Encore – Suite Parlor

Price $1,300/night – 2,100 sf w/ 1 BR

Ind. Bedrooms (1 King or 2 Queens): $500 min./night

Location: North Strip, Pretty Good

Notes:  Only 5-Star Hotel on our list.  Luxury Vegas experience compared to other options, but still reasonable if you’re willing to share a room.

Extra Cost to Each Owner: $150

Hotel – Suite:  Caesar’s Palace – Julius Premium Suite

Price $1,000/night – 1,450 sf w/ 1 BR

Ind. Bedrooms (1 King or 2 Queens): $300 min./night

Location: Central-North Strip, Very Good

Notes:  Getting older, but solid location/casino/pool/bars/hotel amenities

Extra Cost to Each Owner: $100

Hotel - Suite:  Vdara – Hospitality Suite

Price $800/night – 1,600 sf w/ 2 BR

Ind. Bedrooms (Studios): $175/night

Location: Central City, Pretty Good

Notes:  Most overall bang-for-buck for something on the Strip, but have to walk to other casinos, don’t think there’s much of pool scene, Sports Book, bars, restaurants, etc.

Extra Cost to Each Owner: $70

Hotel - Suite: Golden Nugget Suite

Price $500/night – 1,200 sf w/ 1 BR Loft

CIRCA Ind. Bedrooms (1 King or 2 Queens): $300 min./night

Location: Downtown, so major downgrade from the Strip, but CIRCA might make it worth it

Notes: I get a Suite at Golden Nugget for our draft, but we all get rooms at CIRCA, and hang out there.  CIRCA is a brand-new hotel, 21+ only, featuring Stadium style Sports Book (biggest in Vegas) with INSANE Video-Screens-Pool.

Extra Cost to Each Owner:  $0

I allowed each owner to vote for their Top 2 selections, and here's the final tally:

Golden Nugget - CIRCA - 7 votes

Caesars Palace - 5 votes

Planet Hollywood - 2 votes

Wynn-Encore - 3 votes

Vdara - 1 vote

So we booked rooms at CIRCA and got a suite at the Golden Nugget.  Guys in the league are excited to check out CIRCA.

Thanks to the FGBs for all for your input!

Have a blast GB.  We go every other year for our FF draft and 2021 will be I believe our 5th trip to Vegas.  I'll buy you a beer if I see you.  :suds:

I don't have quite that many nearby but same here. I would still go for a solo NFL weekend but a trip with the Mrs isn't in the cards until Vegas is back.

You buy me one and the next will be on me GB.

Curious, do you have your draft in a hotel suite, or somewhere else?  All stay at the same hotel?
We do it mostly on the cheapish.  We do not all stay at the same hotel..I can see the appeal in that as getting everyone at the same place at any point in a Vegas trip can be like herding cats.

One guy has status or points or whatever and typically gets an upgraded room with enough extra space to host a draft..but not a full on suite that houses multiple people for the weekend.

Enjoy!

Circa sounds like a lot of fun.  I definitely want to check it out son.  You should enjoy your trip.

Surprised you didn't look into doing Caesar's/Flamingo split though.  When we do groups in Vegas, that seems to be our go to.  Caesar's for anyone with a little pocket money and Flamingo for those who wanna do it cheap.  Given that it's a 5 minute walk from Flamingo's casino to Caesar's it just always seemed to be the best situation for us.

Good thought, and Caesar's probably would have been the choice for our group if it weren't for CIRCA.

It has completely changed Vegas for us. I had actually told my wife I didnt want to go on vegas vacations anymore. Then had a bachelor party to go to. Didnt want to go, but was one of my best friends. Another friend of mine asked if I wanted to fly out early and go to Zion. Told me it was like an hour away. So I agreed.

Eventually looked up directions and realized it was 3 hours. So I did some research about hiking closer to vegas. Found tons. We evetually decided to fly out a day early instead of in the morning and just did Zion, but I couldnt wait to do some more of the local stuff.

Wife and I booked a follow up trip and we started hiking everything within an hour. Now vegas is my favorite place to visit. It is also about the easiest city there is to drive in. Other than the backup at sahara(that clears quick) pretty much never get stuck in freeway traffic. It is a huge almost true grid.
Would love a PM with some of this info or websites you can recommend. My wife is not a big gambler but we both love hiking and the outdoors. I was thinking of researching this stuff too last year pre-COVID.

Would also suggest AllTrails.com. It lists tons of hikes all over the country. This is my go-to when I travel anywhere and need to get a hike in. I also recommend downloading their app and paying for their premium service. It is essential for me when hiking and want to stay on trail (or go off-trail for something but want to find my way back). You can use the offline version in conjunction with your phones GPS to track your hike even if you don't have cell service.

Did Caesar's change their reward program details? I thought it reset on Feb 1, but now it looks like Jan 1?

Also, I lost my status and got reset back to Gold... I thought Caesar's was extending all 2020 status levels through 2021 due to no one being able to go to casinos for so much of the year.

EDIT: My profile looks to have been bumped back up to Diamond. Not sure if because of the status match I requested getting pushed through in just a few hours, or, if they noticed that tiers reset when they shouldn't have. Now it is correctly Diamond through 1/31/22.

Points reset on 1/1, status on 1/31. so that hasn't changed. Nevermind!

Staying overnight en route to Portland in early April so I can visit my sister. Got a dirt cheap room at Delano for something different. It's closer to where my sister lives and the airport rental car return so worth it.

It took a bit, but I found a host that would respond to email and booked a suite at the Golden Gate 4/1-6.
What time do you get in on 4/1? We land (Mrs. O is actually joining me) around 10:30 am and I’m spending most of the day with my sister. Maybe we can get together that night for a bit? We head up to Portland Friday morning around 10 and planning breakfast early out in Boulder City.

I'm on the dawn patrol. Hit me up anytime! :hifive:

I love PH outside of the sportsbook was small.  Great location on the strip.
yeah, the book is small for certain....line wasn't too bad in 2019 and we are hoping with Covid that the line will be manageable.

rooms are clean, decent gaming tables and location is great.

We were in the private box there with Pete Rose one time.  A total horse racing degen.

Has anybody done a Caesars slot tournament? I have an offer for the 150k tournament. No idea how these actually work. Is there any value to these?

I've done a few. There's nothing to do, just mash the SPIN button as much as you can in the 5-10 minute timeslot you get and see what happens. It's totally random. I think I've done both slots and video poker "tournaments".

The value is in the free room that usually comes with it, if you don't normally get one on offer. I think it's about a 75% chance you end up with a $100 voucher for table game or slot machine credit that you can use, but you have to stay another night to use it since I don't think you can claim it at the cage until 9PM or so. The voucher is play-through credit, that is, once you deposit it into a machine, you can't cash out it's value until you've played through. So if you have a $100 voucher you'd need to make fifty $2 spins or whatever before you could cash out whatever's left over. If you try to leave early, the remainder of the balance will stay on the machine and not print out... if you put in the $100 voucher, do a single $2 spin and win $10, if you hit cash-out you'll get a voucher for $10 and the machine will still show $98 in credit... so don't walk away lol
I pretty much get free rooms whenever.

Me too, in that case, if it's worth taking 20 minutes out of a couple of days to mash a button for a 50-75% shot at $100 or more, then go for it. They're a total goof. Slots are totally random, video poker is nearly totally random, and I guess blackjack is the only one that would have any skill factor at all (though with the small sample size, also mostly luck).

I tend to do them if I have time... unfortunately they seem to do these a lot in the spring when work prevents me from going. When they come up and I have a few week days free, then it's as good an excuse as any to go to Vegas those days over any other, I guess.
At least there is an element of skill to video poker vs slots.  I would say there is as much as a blackjack table.  The ratio of comps you get in slots vs video poker tells you that.

I would have liked to go for a blackjack or craps tournament. There have been so many great promos, but not much that weekend. I want to go that weekend more than I want a great promo though. I will be 2 weeks out from my 2nd vaccine dose. I  have a pretty small window to take advantage of before I am slammed at work.

A craps tourney would be a blast.  I cant get back there for the forseeable future.  On a related gambling note, someone hit a slot at a casino here by me the other day for $1.5 mil.

I am getting my second shot next week. Going to Vegas in 3 weeks.

Anybody have a line of credit with Ceasers? I have never really looked into it, but I always hate getting a bankroll worth of cash out and traveling with it.

If you can even get cash. I've heard it's been a nightmare lately but maybe that's just local? Try contacting your host at Caesars, they should be able to help.

Mrs 69 says she's not going back until she can use the amenities at the Wynn spa. REALLY hope they open up soon since we can finally get our vaccine in a couple of weeks.

Heading there next Thursday and hfs car rentals are scarce and/or rates have skyrocketed. What I paid for a mid size SUV has doubled or more since I made my reservation several weeks ago. Also, Uber/Lyft drivers are far fewer than they used to be so expect up to an hour wait in some cases.

Mrs. O is doing a mani/pedi at Mandalay Bay, but she’s not happy about the spa not being fully open. It sucks, but things will eventually get back to normal. Vdara’s spa is awesome, but I’ve heard great things about Wynn too.

The cheapest rental I saw was an extended cab pickup.

Encore, Venetian, Cosmo and Aria are all pretty great. Cant wait to go back and do one of those again.

She's done Encore, Wynn and Cosmo. Likes them all of course but Wynn is her favorite since they remodeled.

I know it'll get back to normal at some point but our last Vegas trip was December 2019 so I wanna go now... 😭

Bumping my own post.

I am hoping to hear how it affected your credit score if  at all.

Heading out shortly. Gonna be a warm one today, but just sticking around for less than 24 hours. Is it sad I’m looking forward to free parking on MGM properties?
