Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (5 Viewers)

I just called the 8664442168 number and it was great.

Was on hold for less than a minute, Sam took my call, asked if I had ATT(I don't), and then simply pulled up the promotions page and offered me a flat $60 off a month for 12 months, no contract needed.

I was very happy. :)

Total call time was probably 7 minutes from start to finish.
Just called and got $40 a month. Not as good as you, but I'll take it.

got the same $60/mo for a year making my cost about $70/mo.....got the same $60 deal last year (I've kept a log about my contacts with DTV since 2002)....Christina said no Ticket deals show up for me right now but check back when they start their Ticket promo on TV ads, likely mid August

Did you pass on the offer and waiting on Sunday Ticket?  I'm curious if you can just get the RedZone channel stand-alone, I've tried for years and many reps have shot-down the idea of that being possible but it seems some have had success.  I wish I could just pay $10.00 a month for just Redzone.  I believe Fios offers that.

I accepted the $60/mo offer and will call back next month about the ticket....having my "log" helps as I can demonstrate the past deals they have given me for being a long term customer with auto pay....no idea about stand alone redzone availability or cost as I'm only interested in the ticket max.....

Interesting. I was always told if you accept a deal, you have so many "credits" on your account that you won't be eligible for any other discounts or deals?  They used to tell me that nothing else was coming up as you already have so many credits applied.

nice.

I called the same number and was offered $40/month off for 12 months plus $5 off HBO that I was currently paying full price for.

they offered me $12.50/month off Sunday Ticket but I declined and just cancelled it.

may just try back again next month and see what they offer.

Seems the offers are all over the place this year.  $12.50 off a month for Sunday Ticket? How much would that be then?

I saw on Reddit some were getting $50 credits with free Sunday Ticket max.

I just completely pulled the plug.  I was getting $40 off per month but was going to expire next month.  I got tired of doing the dance, plus my family never watches TV anymore, always on netflix, hulu or youtube.  When I called to cancel they tried to offer me another $10 a month, but I said to disconnect, I was done.  she then offered me directv now, but unfortunately it does not have NFL network so I turned that down as well and am on SlingTV.  I am going to buy my daughter who is in college for one more year the Sunday ticket for college students at $79 for the season and will worry about next season when the time comes.

Do you have the super duper channel pack?

i return with my tail firmly tucked between my legs. :bag:

last august, i told direct tv, att, to go #### themselves and i hoped they would burn in the 9th ring of dante's inferno, for all eternity.

part of what ignited my initial fury of a thousand suns, was i called up to get new equipment (mine was at least 8-10 years old) they wouldn't give me the wireless genies, without a $99 install fee and a $150 charge.  there may have also been some sort of monthly rental fee.  i had been routinely calling, and getting, free stuff, every year for 10 years....

i had just mounted my new 65" smart tv on the wall, with nary a wire showing.  i NEEDED wireless connections.  As well as free st max.  duh.  they told me to pound sand. :sadbanana:

so, i happily, cut that ####### cord.  it's a new age, sky net is coming!  i got this!

i got sling.  i had netflix.  amazon prime. google tv, etc, etc.

i got a firestick, added kodi, and was stealing #### left and right.  bought real debrid, so the stealing part was easier/better.

i also, in my rage, told att internet to go #### a football too!  their speed sux0red and couldn't handle my new maverick approach. i happily ended up paying more, for 150 speed, so i could stream more crap.  (this was the only positive, to me losing my mind)

in the end, it all pretty much sucked donkey ****.

my wife was ready to let me go quietly in my sleep after a few months. but my dumb ###, held my ground!  i was ready to die on this f'ing hill, such was my rage.

after 8 months or so, my wife, let alone my 11 year old kid, had had enough.

but then, an epiphany.  let's call up and see what happens. :bag:

$300 gift card.  free genie equipment.  new dish. new wiring. free movies for 6 months.  free STmax.  $65/mo for everything except movies.

You don't explain what sucked about it. Did the wife and kid really miss live tv that much? Did you do an antenna for local?  I'm close to doing what you did as my family rarely watches live tv anymore.

When did you go back? how recently?

My "disconnect date" is 8/1 - I might just let it disconnect and call back the number in 24 hours.

I feel like physically disconnecting presents the bigger offers.

The buffering, the search/guide of sling. No cbs on sling. Sports coverage is lacking and is delayed a few minutes.   Some days the kodi would lag/not work. Keeping the kodi up to date.  Just a lot of tedious crap, that adds up and is just annoying.

Went back about 2 months ago.

It does. You start as a new customer
Sort of. I was still inside s year, so was still considered a win back customer.

The buffering sounds like a router problem, not an application problem. Shark move would have been to ditch kodi and install terrarium.

it was both.  i upgraded my router, switched internet providers with a 2.5% increase in speed, and kodi was starting to have issues.  at least my no limits build was having issues.  i got tired of dealing with it.  which build, etc.  i was looking into terrarium, when i decided to throw in the towel.  there was also enough guilt (i know a lot of people that make their living in the movie biz) that i was cool letting it go by the wayside.

I canceled on saturday. They called me on sunday give me 77 dollars off per month and sunday ticket free. Now paying 25 dollars a month. Kept asking if he was kidding me.
Well done. You just set a cancelation date same day?  May I ask what number called you the next day giving you $77 off and free sunday ticket?

Looks like I need to move my disconnect date up.

Exactly, sometimes it's worth the yearly DTV hassle call of 20-40 minutes versus a year long battle with staying ahead of the technology curve etc.

This... for $25 I would keep the damn thing
I'd be thrilled if they took off $77 and got me to $60 a month with free ticket.

The other offer without disconnecting was $60 a month off and a bill of $80 without ticket. Likely would have to even accept that.

Nice job, man.

Would you mind elaborating a little on how the call / negotiating process went?

I'm in a similar situation having had a the cord cut for 1.5 yrs now.

Very, very familiar with the "threaten to disconnect, get transferred, etc., etc." process from the old days...but curious how you got the ball rolling with them to end up on such a sweet landing spot coming at it from your new direction.

TIA!

And to piggy-back off that - Was your bill around $140 when it went up prior?  If this is the case we can then start to piece together actually disconnecting giving yourself a $77 credit versus going to retention without disconnecting and getting a $60 credit.  Plus the perks of physically disconnecting (ticket, gc, movies)

Called a couple days ago because our previous credits had fallen off last month. Spoke to a young lady and she said no problem, let me take a look. She came back with $50/month and HBO/Cine for a year. She said her system didn't show any ST promotions available for my account and to try back in August.

Total time on the phone was 22 minutes

I just called up and asked what would happen if I signed up again. They transferred me to some sort of retention specialist, since I was still within a year of cancellation. Since you are outside of that, you might be a straight up new customer

The only thing I asked for and said was non negotiable was free, new equipment.  New dish and genie setup.

Everthing else was simply offered to me.  Could not have been easier.

i called and canceled right on the spot.told them i was getting an antena . Never asked for a discount. Was very nice on the phone told them i would not pay more for tv than my car payment. Ordered an antena . they called the next day. Talked to a guy named Maliek he was super nice. gave me 60 off and a 10 off for 12 months and stopped the 7 dollar charge for the second box for the bedroom tv

Called for the 2nd time to remove Sunday Ticket. I see it's actually removed now from my online account. Let's see if they follow thru in the credit for the 1st installment they weren't supposed to have charged. I'm paying around $130 now sans the ticket for Xtra package and all the movie channels. Initially had a few free months and then a discount of $22 for a few months on the movie channels. Next bill should be my last with the credits for the Xtra package and back to the cancel and hope you get the discount and free ticket hassle. Took 7 hours of calls to get it mostly right last year as they screwed up the disconnect and reconnect process. Was supposed to get free new equipment but never happened. Hoping for a smoother deal this year. Might need to leave it disconnected for a couple of days or something.

GBS, I'm assuming this directed towards Da Raiders?

Appreciate it. I'll work the system as a new/old customer and report back how it went.

So I went on this morning to see what my bill would be 8/7 (disconnect date is 8/1) - It was $188 - something wasn't right.  They charged me for installment 1 of 6 for Sunday Ticket $48.99 after confirming with them TWICE in past months to make sure it doesn't auto renew.  They must have figured, I'm leaving, let's add it and charge him.

I chatted with a rep who removed it but wasn't able to put the cancelation BACK on. He gave me a number to call with a pin. 800-824-9081 (they don't have good offers).  called and she was nice but said it wasn't taken off right (the chat people are idiots), so she took off the $48.99 fee and said she saw ZERO offers other than a free sports station or downgrading my package.  I said how is this the case when I called last month to set a 8/1/18 disconnect date,  they offered $50, she said everyone was different.  BS.  I then re-confirmed that my bill would be $140.00 and to shut my service off effective midnight.

She then said I would take my equipment to UPS store and they would ship out for me? seems different.

If I don't receive a call by Friday. I will call the 866-444-2168 number and say I missed a call from them.

I'm not sure what to think anymore.  My account is in my wife's name and I'm on the account, however we weren't married at the time and her maiden name is the primary account holder. I might have to just send this stuff back and sign up as a new customer in my name.

looks like (at least a few) of the "I'm leaving Direct TV" guys have kind of figured out it may not really be worth it and they want to come back....I get a sense that DirectTV may have gotten a little full of themselves in the past, but now they seem to be willing to work a little more with "current" subscribers....and some of the variance in credits might be that they are giving people that have stayed the course a little bit of love...meaning $60 instead of $40 or $50.....persnally I feel that Direct TV is THE cable option of choice and I don't mind having a bill....I think some people get a little carried away and expect to get the service for darn near nothing...we have 4 boxes and so for me as long as I keep it at or under about $100 a month  (with the Ticket).. and maybe 6 months of some free stuff...I'm ok with it...I feel I get my moneys worth....

A year ago I disconnected and then made the call. Got my Xttra package down to $77/month for the first 12 months, then $81for the next 12 months, plus free Sunday ticket and $200 gift card. Then last week get my bill for month 13 and it is $130. Immediately make the call to Retentions to cancel/negotiate. Am told that it went up $50 cuz they automatically added Sunday Ticket 2018. Told them to take Sunday Ticket off, and then he offers to give me an additional  $50 credit per month for the next 12 months, plus reimburse me the $53 they overcharged me this month. My payment will now be $33 per month for the upcoming year, and I barely had to fight for it!

I made the call today: I know it's time when I see that first Sunday Ticket installment on my bill. I just straight-up canceled. (The offers that customer retention offered me were garbage.) I did the same thing last year — I canceled, then someone called the next day (see my post from last year, which I've quoted below) to offer me all kinds of good stuff.

What helps me, though, is that I'm not bluffing. I'm fine with ditching cable and saving some money, and my Sundays in the fall are usually busy anyway. And when I do have time to watch games, I'm fine with heading to a friend's house.

It went the same for me as it did last year. Yesterday I called and canceled. This evening I got a call from "my" account manager. (The call came from Auburn, AL, for those who screen their phone calls.) After some cursory questions about why I canceled (I said money) and what channels I like to watch, I was offered $39 off per month for 12 months on the Choice package; other discounts that got rid of the stupid equipment and DVR fees, as well as that stupid regional sports fee; another $10 off for agreeing to auto-pay; HBO, Showtime, and Starz for three months; complimentary Sunday Ticket Max (I point out the "complimentary" thing because that's not a word they've used before); and a $200 Visa gift card. Total monthly bill will be around $50. The nice women I spoke to threw out the "perfect solution" thing, which I think was their go-to phrase last year.

So you didn't set a disconnect date-you just called because your rates were going up & you wanted to see what they could do?????

asking for me.

Yep. Didn't want the song and dance and was hoping the nice approach would work. I did the disconnect gig before, had them disconnect and got the all everything deal when i came back, but it took 4 or 5 calls over multiple billing cycles to get it all straight. This credit would show up, but not that. They'd add the that but take off the this and add something else. It was a serious PITA and debatable whether it was worth it in the end.

Seems reasonably sure that calling for a deal on the ST will get me some level of discount, so I'll see what I see in a week or so for that.

FWIW, when I got the obligatory  "Thank you for being a valued customer since ..." my reconnect year 2 years ago showed in their system rather than the 12 years prior to.

Its pretty obvious that length of years does nothing to impact your offers, but still interesting they track it that way.

The nice approach rarely works with DTV. You might get them to do it right before the actual disconnect, but typically they don’t care until you at least have a disconnect scheduled. Even once you get the deal it’s common for them to “forget” certain credits and have to call and force them to hold to it.

Havent called yet this year, but I’ll be in again this year and will report back. I agree with anyone who says it’s a hassle, but the end result is the exact TV setup my family wants, Sunday Ticket, and the price I think is fair.

I disconnected at midnight, going to wait a few days as well.
