Pato is only 31? :jawdrop:
Heah he's a year and 2 months younger than me. There's a few guys when I'm playing Fifa and I see their name and then how old  (Or I should say how young they are) and how surprised I am simple because they started out so young. Just off the German Squad alone from 06 World Cup

Manuel Neur 34

Bastian Schweinsteiger 36

Dempsey was only 23 for the US

Onyewu for the US was 22 or so

Carlos Vela of LA FC was still in Mexico in 2010 WC and only 31

Ochoa is playing in Mexico at 36

Chicharito  is 31 now

J Boateng 31

Hummels 31

Sergio Busquets 31

Rakitic 31

Ozil 31

Alexis Sanchez 31

Angel Di Maria, Lewandowski and Diego Costa all 31.

Tim Krul is 31

Looks like Charlotte FC has created a bit of a firestorm after announcing their ticket prices which included PSL's.

Some really big money for season tickets there and not even in a soccer stadium.  They better have an Atlanta like following or this could snow ball in the wrong direction for them...

One comment I read called it a very MLS 1.0 approach; the wrong one for a city without a very strong existing soccer culture. Tepper sees this as an easy way to make money off a stadium he owns instead of being about growing the sport. They're going to close the upper deck but the lower will be pretty empty if the team isn't strong out of the gate.

I am still planning on getting a couple of seats, assuming I can get some in the place I want. There is very little shade, but I'm targeting some rows that have it.

Paramount+/CBS All Access is going all in on Soccer.

Home of UEFA, including Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League,

In addition, National Women’s Soccer League will be on Paramount+

Paramount+ now has taken the US right to the soccer documentary Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In. Parallel to Paramount+’s big soccer coverage, there will be four to five Stories from the Beautiful Game docus from producer Pete Radovich.

As well, Paramount+ is hoping to snare more of the fast growing and demo rich American soccer crowd with access to more than 200 Concacaf matches, starting with the Concacaf Nations League Finals in June. There’s also 300 games from Argentina’s top tier Liga Profesional de Fútbol and 350 matches from Brazil’s Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in play too.

And the poor step sibling of European compitions has a marque matchup in the next round.

United vs AC Zlatan in a battle of former great teams.  Both sit in 2nd in their respective leagues. Zlatan and Diego Dalot return to Old Trafford for this tie.

Rest of the draw:
Ajax v Young Boys
Dynamo Kyiv v Villarreal
Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
Olympiacos v Arsenal
Dinamo Zagreb v Tottenham
Man. United v Milan
Slavia Praha v Rangers
Granada v Molde

You're right...Ajax vs Young Boys should be a barnburner.

I really love early round Europa matches... when there are people and fires in the stands.

Unless he steps up Dalot is going back to ManU at the end of the season. Besides a few matches hasn't impressed and been overtaken by French U20s LB/CB Pierre Kalulu. At the start of the campaign there was talk of a dry loan but ManU and Milan agreed they could talk further down the line on a potential stay at Milan. However last few months that hasn't looked likely.

Ibra does well against his former clubs too. So not sure that's something ManU fans want. I don't know a lot about ManU these days other then they have struggled. I watched both matches vs Newcastle and ManU really missed a lot of chances the first match. In and out of the 2nd match as I had work but didn't seem that impressive. Not sure if thats them playing to the competition level or what.

Milan was on an unbeaten run since last March but have struggled losing to Spezia (Who don't get me wrong despite not being a good overall club have been impressive in the league as the new boys), loses to Inter in the league and Copa Italia and 2 draws vs Red Star in the Europa League 32 draw. However the last goal of first tie shouldn't have counted for Red Star as there was a foul in the build up that gave Red Star the corner they ultimately scored on in extra time. Over the last month Milan has been a mixed bag of sorts

Also I wasn't the only one with the issue yesterday but I'm so glad I pay for CBS Access and it doesn't even work. At first I thought it was me as I went to the Milan match and the wrong stream is on (Oddly enough it has the ManU match), click on the other matches and the streams are all wrong. Can't even find the Milan match. Went on Twitter and it was an issue for many. Thankfully one of the writers for the Milan Report Blog got a good steam from SkyTV Italia and many of us could watch the match (Thank god I know enough Italian to follow it) and finally by the 2nd Half CBS fixed the issue. Not the first time I've had issues with CBS and it amazes me they don't put any of these matches on their sister stations. My Local CBS station had DR Phil. TNT Had another movie they've aired millions of times already and I'm sure TBS had some program rerun. I get the all access thing for multiple matches like the first round but they should be showing some on TV. At least when Fox had the rights to this and Champions league they still had matches on regular TV. At this point I don't know why anyone who has regular cable for sports with steaming services just don't cancel their cable at this point. Literally everything is streamed now and cheaper to do so than keeping a cable subscription.

Reports I've seen about Dalot are not good.  Was hoping he could get some time and be a true backup to AWB and push him like Telles has for Shaw.  Dalot is better going forward then AWB, although that isn't a high bar.  Dalot may be on the outs either way.  I could see another loan next summer.

I love Zlatan but not excited to see him this round.  His speed won't threaten United's back line, but his positioning and especially his strength with give Lindelof or McGuire issues.  Bailly could be an interesting matchup for Ibra though.  Although some of the behind the scenes videos at United could make it a Zlatan/Lukaku type bust up.  Entertaining to say the least.

The other issue is March 11 and 18th for these legs. Here is their schedule:

3/7 City (a) EPL
3/11 ACM (h) Europa
3/14 West Ham (h) EPL
3/18 ACM (a) Europa
3/21 Leicester (A) FA Cup

Tough run of games with major implications across all 3 competitions.

So it wasnt just me.  Wrong streams, then the game jumped ahead a few mins... all over the place.  :censored:

Well I guess we now know why things have been dead quiet in Sacramento on the expansion front

================

Jeff Carlisle

@JeffreyCarlisle

MLS announces that Ron Burkle has "“decided not to move forward with the acquisition of an MLS expansion team” in Sacramento. Massive blow to Sacramento's expansion project.

Nope Super Frustrating when at work with only so much time on a break and want to watch 30 mins. Like I said Luckily I know enough Italian from watching illegal streams of matches over the years on SKyItalia and know the game well enough it wasn't as aggravating to watch. But yeah it wasn't just you. Multiple people had issue. I just wish they would put some of these matches on regular cable.

Owners of Chinese club champions Jiangsu FC have folded the team, along with the same successful women's team...huge news. China recently had been pumping money into the league and snatching up players for ridiculous sums. Felt like they were on the way to building the sport in the country through brute financial force. They're hoping to find new owners...will be interesting to see what happens there. They also own Inter, so likely tense times ahead for the nerrazurri, in spite of being at the top of the table.

Also, Schalke just dumped their entire coaching staff...again. most coaches in a single season in bundesliga history. Not sure what this means for Hoppe. Outside of still being in bundi 2 next season.

Not sure if China can financially with the salaries they keep handing out to foreigners will be able to withstand. Most of the foriegners they are dishing money out to aren't even worth the salary either.

As for Inter I've heard a bit about this. Forget the podcast I was listening too but they said if the owners don't reel this in fast there might be bigger issues on the horizon like not being able to afford to keep certain players and having to sell. They aren't at that point yet and making a top 4 finish (maybe win Scudetto and hope for a long CCL run next year could really help them out.

I'm a patron to David Amoyal's podcast but has been doing podcasts for soccer specifically Italy for awhile now. He first started out with ESPN Color guy Matteo Bonetti and I've listened to both for a while now. Followed Matteo as an Intern as the MilanGuy when he did the blog on ESPN Soccernet all those years ago. Went to BEIN as an analyst and did some in game commentary for the French league and Serie A while there. Joined ESPN when they got the SERIE A rights. Matteo and his wife do their own podcast which I love. His Wife is Kay Murray English Journalist who does ESPN International and some US stuff. She was once one of the presenters of the Ballon D'Oro.  Amayol actually works in the US with Finances and stocks. I just asked him about this issue for his next pod episode. If anyone can give a good understanding and break down it's him.

Short summary of the Question asked how this could effect inter, heard rumors Sunung can't afford to pay inter's staff and players but not sure how true that is, how does this now effect the Chinese league (Like I said the amount of money they were pumping in and giving to foreigners not worth that sort of money), will Inter have to sell some key players now, etc? Ended with I'd hate for Inter to start struggling with Milan on the rise again. Calcio needs both Milan clubs to be successful because it makes Calcio so much better.

@B Maverick Sounds like you guys dropped points yesterday. Was at work. Milan beat Roma 2-1 but given how they played probably should've had about 3-4 goals in the 1st half alone. Zlatan re-aggravated the abductor muscle injury he had and will miss at least 10 days. Missing Udinese Match on Sunday as well as first leg at Old Trafford now.

Pioli just dropped Alessio Romnagnoli our Captain in the back for Tomori who played excellent. Looking really likely Milan will purchase his buyout.

Update I just got a message from David.

"I just know so much more about plusvalenze, amortization and stuff like that than Chinese ownerships groups and I try not to speculate on things I’m not familiar. I’m working on getting a good guest on that knows about this stuff"

In other words guys stay tuned

Yeah another drab affair between United and a big six club.  Neither team deserved to win and each keeper made a great save on what was probably the only real chance either team had.  But United should have had a PK and according to Shaw the ref told McGuire he didn't give it since there would be too much talk about it after the match.

AC Milan will have a tougher time without Zlatan.  I am a fan of his so would love to see him play, but this does help United. Regardless will be an interesting tie.

Yeah I heard about this from Shaw in his interview. The CalcioCast Pod I just mentioned Matteo and Kay had a question about this. Sounds like Italy might start experimenting with Ref interviews after games (at least main ref) on key decisions in the game and overall match. Definitely think this could help and maybe more sports could do this. Would help explain numerous controversial decisions and such. From what it sounds like to me Ref didn't give it but VAR was. If this was the Refs answer he needs to be disciplined

the ref didnt give it and actually the Chelsea players were appealing for the handball.  Real time and Initial looks looked like it came off Greenwood so play continued.  Once there was a stoppage, VAR told the ref to look at it.  Replays showed it was Hudson Odoi who handled the ball.  Ref decided not to give it and reportedly made his comments to McGuire.

Now the FA may want to fine and suspend Shaw for his comments and dispariging a ref.  For what, telling the world what he overheard the ref say?  This is getting rediculous.

Add on top the debacle at Brighton earlier in the weekend and the FA ,much like the NFL, needs to revamp its referee program.

All teams are affected by the ref, and it could potentially even out over the season, but you are talking 7-10 points in the last 7 games lost as a direct result of poor refing (and following Klopp's comments).  That puts United 2-5 behind City (who they play this weekend).  Thats a major implication for the title race.

Yeah my issue with EPL is a lot of the officiating. I know English fans are hating VAR but it's not the problem. The Refs are and they need a real revamping of it. EPL Refs do not use VAR as well as they should. it is suppose to be a tool and option to help make sure the right calls are made. It's not there to discredit officials or make their job harder. it's there to help them. For whatever reason English Refs seem to not want to be part of this.

They're talking about fine and suspension because what he reported in his post game comments aren't accurate.  Even Maguire has come out and said that the ref never said that to him and that Shaw "misheard the conversation".  Shaw has already walked it back too(I'm assuming due to the club asking him to).  Attributing false words to the ref is a pretty major issue IMO.  I can see why the FA wouldn't like it.

It seems obvious Shaw was either lying or perhaps misspoke or exaggerated in the emotion of the moment. It is patently absurd a referee would have that conversation with a player.

I also disagree it was a VAR mistake, biased as I am.  Chelsea were lucky a handball wasn't called live, but none of the multiple VAR angles I saw were remotely conclusive to award a penalty.

If he was lying then I think they would've banned/fined him. Could just be that he misheard. Who knows. Glad nothing is coming from it.

Some interesting stuff I've heard from a trusted source regarding Suning group and Inter Milan. UEFA sent a delegate to Milan last Thursday who watched the Milan Europa Match vs Red Star Thursday and then they are now investigating Inter's ownership group. That's kind of a code red right there in they might be in big trouble. Take this with a grain of salt but there's reports that Suning and Inter still owe Chelsea 50M Euros for Lukaku.

Police raid FC Barcelona and detain former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, according to reports

Catalan police raided FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium on Monday, detaining former president Josep Maria Bartomeu and other team officials in connection to an ongoing investigation into the so-called Barçagate scandal, according to multiple reports. Bartomeu resigned as president in 2020 following reports that he hired a marketing firm to disparage the club’s players on social media. In a statement, the club said that it is cooperating with Catalan police and that it has “great respect for the judicial process in place and for the principle of presumed innocence for the people affected within the remit of this investigation."

That makes more sense.  I hadn't seen McGuire's comments or Shaw walking it back.  If thats the case then I agree about the fines/suspensions.

Not sure he was lying, but maybe misheard.  Another reason why post game interviews can cause trouble.  And yes that would be a stupid statement for a ref to make.  But I wouldnt put it past the lot of them to say something like that.

Not sure what angles you saw but every one they showed was a clear handball by Hudson-Odoi.  Live it looked like a handball by Greenwood.  All the Chelsea players even appealed for it.

:goodposting:

For some reason they've decided to use VAR to legislate the game, esp on offside.  It should be as simple as the VAR guy bussing down saying you may want to look at this again.  On field ref goes to the monitor and looks.  No need for offside lines or long delays while the VAR looks for something in the buildup....  On field ref makes the calls, not the guy in the booth like they do now.

I've posted some videos in here before showing how they do it in rugby - whether league games or international tournaments.  The ref is mic'd up at all times, and they broadcast the entire discussion with the booth guys, including the video they are watching, so everyone knows exactly what he is looking at.  They typically use the in-stadium video screen, so the ref never leaves the field and everyone watches with him.  There are typically 3 guys on the call and they all make comments and come to a decision, but the on-field ref has final say.  Then, he calls the captains over and explains the exact reasons for his decision. It typically takes a couple minutes start to finish.  I was watching Wales against England in the Six Nations Cup on Saturday and was once again amazed to see them go through several VARs, reaching the correct result each time and leaving no room for any complaints from anyone, with almost no delay.

I've always liked this idea and not sure why American leagues are so secretive about this. It just leads more to the conspiracies that these games are all fixed by people.

McKennie was officially bought by Juve for 22M in 3 installments today. Not sure If I'm Schalke I'd have agreed to the 3 installments but given their financial issues maybe they were afraid not getting a deal across since Juve has some Economical issues of their own they are dealing with. They didn't do much in the Winter Mercado as they couldn't off load a lot of their very high salary older players they didn't want.

You might want to post this in the USMNT thread too.

Good and expected news.

Seems like he's carrying a knock and could use some rest...I read he was seen limping after getting subbed out of the last game

Yeah it was a quick post before work and forgot to add it. I didn't watch the last game though
