Gimme sympathy
After all of this is gone
Who would you rather be
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones
Oh seriously, you're gonna make mistakes, You're young
Come on baby play me something like
Here comes the sun

Seems appropriate for this draft

OK, caught up on the thread.

I've been trying to stay offline today.  As some music draft folks know, my family is Black.  We've spent enough time together to hold no illusions but it's still kind of overwhelming with everything else going on.  This draft has been a nice safe space but the world got the better of me today.

How did we get here?

What have we become?

How many picks do I owe?

27.10 - Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart (2012)

We'll leave the post-punk alone and go back to some trash Eurodance.  Looking to corner the market on Welsh artists here.  This album kinda fell flat in the UK and was kinda critically panned, but was arguably her biggest hit in the US.  Pure dancefloor album.  I'm always a fan of hers.  She's dropped the "and the diamonds" now and just goes by MARINA.   All caps for emphasis, I suppose.  Slay.

"Radioactive"

"Primadonna"

Their best album.  "Twilight Galaxy" is their best song ever, IMO.

I can't answer any  of these questions, but I am sitting here in tears from reading news and watching video of the godawful #### that has been happening today.

I'll add some more relatively recent, completely essential pop to my mix.

30.32 - Robyn - Body Talk (2010)

1. Dancing On My Own
2. Fembot
3. Don't F***ing Tell Me What To Do
4. Indestructible
5. Time Machine
6. Love Kills
7. Hang With Me
8. Call Your Girlfriend
9. None Of Dem feat. Röyksopp
10. We Dance To The Beat
11. U Should Know Better feat. Snoop Dogg
12. Dancehall Queen
13. Get Myself Together
14. In My Eyes
15. Stars 4-Ever

26.31 - Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else (2014)

Low-key one of my favorite bands of the past few years.  Much respect for my Great Lakes brethren.  I'm not usually one for band t-shirts, but I've got some bizarre shirt from one of their shows years ago that's my favorite concert shirt.  Will pair well with Japandroids as I angrily rage on my island.

"I'm Not Part of Me"

"Pattern Walks"
I have no idea how I would rank those albums but "I'm Not Part Of Me" is one of their top 2 or 3 songs for sure IMO.

29.23 - Late For the Sky - Jackson Browne (1974)

I'm going to close out my undrafted artists gimmick with a guy whose star has fallen a bit since the 70s.  Who would have guessed Zevon's alpha male cosplay would age better than Browne's sensitive poetry.

Browne's peak was pretty short in the early 70s.  His songwriting suffered as he got richer and more famous.  But when he was on, he could write beautiful, literate lyrics with a strong melodic sense.  This is the El Lay sound brought to life by the cream of the LA session men including the great multi-instrumentalist David Lindley whose solos are a perfect match for Browne's introspective words.

Fountain of Sorrow

Before the Deluge

Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in a moment they were swept before the deluge

Round 31.38 - Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter (2004)

The fourth solo album by Lil' Wayne and the first album to feature his alter ego coming to the fore, Tha Carter surprised music snobs everywhere with how well the lyrical dexterity of Lil' Wayne held up over Mannie Fresh's funkified and almost gothic beats. A pioneer in facial tattoos, Wayne would have bigger hits, more critical acclaim, and certainly more tats and purple drank (winding up in prison and the subject of death rumors), but this is where his career transformation began and he started to get the ears of everyone, myself included, on his way to legendary status.

I'm back.  Watched 20 minutes of movie and realized I hadn't worked out today and needed to do that before losing my mojo.  Listened to the mix while working out.  Oh boy, did I have a brutal run.  Someone took a 24-minute Pink Floyd song?  :lmao:   I did get one of my own songs, though - well, sorta, since instead of PJ Harvey's "Is That All There Is" someone had uploaded the Peggy Lee version.  I did fix that.  :)

@Binky The Doormat, do you need any help catching up?

28.31 - Hinds - I Don't Run (2018)

I would be remiss if I didn't take a Hinds album to my island.  I know they're rather anonymous in the grand scheme, but they're the only artist to finish #1 on my FBG AOTY poll twice in the '10s decade, and I'll rep them as one of my favorites of the past 5 years.  Four Spanish women playing lo-fi garage rock, tailor-made for stale beer and cheap cigarettes.  It's not for everyone, but if you look up my "wheelhouse" in a dictionary, this is pretty much it.

"Soberland" (Live)

"The Club"

Lol.  I warned you of that Floyd song was picked to make sure you knew it wasnt me.

This album is amazing. If you take out all the interludes it's top to bottom massive songs. Also, a lot of the themes in here are still uh, relevant

I drank the Hinds branded beers I was saving for Bonnaroo. I think they're still out there, I'll grab some fresh ones next time I'm headed your way.
