Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (1 Viewer)

I am not opposed to going 50, but I am not too interested in supplemental compilation or GH rounds.   Just not something I listen to.   So if that's all it is, I would tap out.  If it's something that we are opening the gates to if people want to, but not all it is, I am for that.
Think I’ll be ready for a new draft once we hit 50 rounds.

Listened to this again over the weekend.

Tramp the Dirt Down has been on my mind a lot lately.

Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savor
That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down
I'm still listening to the record right now, on shuffle, and this came on within seconds of my seeing your post.  I'm going to leave my song selection above but add this one to the playlist instead of Satellite, which I chose just because of how much I love those lyrics.  This is a better song overall, and fitting for the time, unfortunately.

And now the cynical ones say that it all ends the same in the long run
Try telling that to the desperate father who just squeezed the life from his only son
And how it's only voices in your head and dreams you never dreamt
Try telling him the subtle difference between justice and contempt
Try telling me she isn't angry with this pitiful discontent
When they flaunt it in your face as you line up for punishment
And then expect you to say thank you straighten up, look proud and pleased
Because you've only got the symptoms, you haven't got the whole disease
Just like a schoolboy, whose head's like a tin-can
Filled up with dreams then poured down the drain
Try telling that to the boys on both sides, being blown to bits or beaten and maimed
Who takes all the glory and none of the shame

LOL.  Also, I found my notes from the angry Saturday playlist listen and couldn't read half of them as I scribbled in between putting that thing together.  I was a lot of stuff that I had year before, but I mixed up my Tom Waits comments, and my notes were:

TOM WAITS - CHRISTMAS CARD FROM A HOOKER.   wtf is this?  It sounds like Dr. Teeth from The Muppets

NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL - OH, COMELY  now I remember why I don't like this album.  Won't feel bad about singing karaoke any more.

The standouts that I starred for putting on the research playlist were Otis Redding (Down in the Valley), Bauhaus, and The The.   It also was driving me crazy where I knew Minutemen - Corona from, but it's the Jackass theme song, right?  The Snow Patrol song sounded real familiar too (Hands Open).  Not exactly that one, but I had the feeling they had a hit with another, but I couldn't place it.

Costello performed Tramp the Dirt Down at Glastonbury a couple of months after Margaret Thatcher's death

Re Snow Patrol:  "Chasing Cars"

This is the last cat video. Probably. Unless I catch Frankie eventually. @Binky The Doormat   It's just showing a few of the cats. Some aren't around, but the early birds are there. I hate the sound of my voice. I sound like a mouskateer or something. Hopefully it is a technical issue of some sort. I get cut off at the end. My hand must have hit the end button. I kept chatting away. I was walking over to these two balloons that appeared to have fallen from the sky into the lumber yard. It is two big smiley face balloons.  There is a cat out there that got cut out named Tina. Right now she looks ok, but she is extremely allergic to mosquitoes, and every summer her ears get totally bloody and so does her nose from her constant scratching. Her ears look tattered from all the damage done to them. I give her a flea treatment called comfortis in the summer, which is in pill form. I break it up and put it in a pill pocket. I also give her half a zyrtec. I don't know if that helps, but it doesn't hurt. It doesn't stop the reaction to the mosquito bites. She'd freak out if I sprayed her with mosquito spray.

34.31 - St. Vincent - Actor (2009)

I'll draft a different Annie Clark album than I normally take, why not.  This is the album where she stops being folksy-cute and starts to take a turn for the bizarre.  I'd say that this is probably her strangest album, if I had to rank them, but a case could be made for a few of them.  Also contains the fan-favorite live-show staple deep cut "The Party".

"Marrow"

"Actor Out of Work"

Sticking with my stroll through the eighties and taking another one of my favorites that I used to play the hell out of. When I was listening to this one again on my walk yesterday, I had to remind myself half way through that I didn’t need to flip the cassette to the other side on my Walkman (I had one of the old ones without the cool auto-reverse tech). Yo Mama selects:

36.22 - The Cure - The Head on the Door (1985)

1 - In Between Days

2 - Kyoto Song

3 - The Blood

4 - Six Different Ways

5 - Push

6 - The Baby Screams

7 - Close to Me 😎

8 - A Night Like This

9 - Screw

10 - Sinking

They're so fat and healthy-looking!    Are they all so feral that they can never be homed?  Liz seemed possibly adaptable and adoptable?

That's the best looking feral colony I've ever seen. And continued kudos for taking care of them.

Liz is the only one that will let me touch her, and it is only when she is eating, and it is only sometimes. I used to be able to pet Jerry and Butch, but something happened to them. I loved Jerry. I would have taken him in as my own, but he did not want to be picked up. I could only pet him on his terms. I think Jerry let me pet him, because he was dumped out there when he was around 6 months old, so he knew human companionship. I know this, because the maintenance guy at the storage units is the one who dumped him. Jerry turned half feral living out there. He was around 10 or 11 when he disappeared. Butch was dumped out there. I think by a breeder. He was a scottish fold. Mean as a snake to the other cats. Always swatting at them. He was a troll. I'd pet him on the head now and then. Usually I was clapping at him for him to stop his aggressive behavior. For the most part the cats are completely feral. Every now and then I will touch one on the head when it is eating, and it freaks out and the others follow suit.

Thank you.  I've been on edge all day and this calmed me down a bit.

Honestly, I'm kinda embarrassed how little repertoire I have prior to the mid 90s.  Outside of the big artists/albums, which are mostly all long gone, I'm kinda at a loss of full albums to draft pre-1995.  It's not that I don't like the music, but for the most part I just never listen to the albums straight-through.  I end up looking up older albums to consider for this draft, and realizing I don't know 2/3 of the songs.

I'm just old

Is this meant to be Round 36 instead?  The spreadsheet has Brand New Heavies filled in for you in Round 34 and Bill Evans in Round 35.
??

Dunno. I had been going from the spreadsheet to try to catch up, but my phone and the spreadsheet don't like each other. Kinda like that mean purebred cat in simeys colony.

I thought I was right with this...but let me go look at my computer.

All of the cats out there are at least six years old and several older with the exception of one. He is around two now. Rocket. Someone dumped him as a kitten out there during Hurricane Florence. He survived, and survived Hurricane Michael, which was actually worse in my area with flooding and wind. Two of  the tuxedo cats (Chubster and Tim) took him in. Rocket kinda forced his way into their clique, but they accepted him eventually. The calico sisters punch him. I want the colony to age out and eventually pass on, so it sucks when people dump their cats out there. It can be a burden taking care of them, but I have held up my end of the bargain. Two years ago someone dumped three white adult cats out there, and two of them were deaf. It's so mean. I found a home for all three of them. My sister has two of them. I wish people didn't know they were there, and the dumpoffs are never fixed. My cat, Cole, came from the colony as a dumpoff.  Took 6 months for him to let me pet him. I had to trap when he first showed up, cause he wasn't fixed. He was probably dumped by a breeder. He is a russian blue, but is very allergic to food. I guess his hot spots made him not up to snuff. Who knows. He's a sweetheart.

Listening to these guys hits me in the feels these days, as I've mentioned, but they're also my 6th overall most listened to artist over the past 15 years (Spoon, Hold Steady, Modest Mouse, Killers, Arkells) and this is my #1 listened to by them - thanks Last.fm - though I may have also taken Boxer first - and time heals all wounds and it's their slower songs that really kill me and I'll just blast the rocking ones here.  In other words, Baby, We'll Be Fine.

Also, this is a steal...

36.32 - The National - Alligator (2005)

1.    "Secret Meeting"  3:44
2.    "Karen"   3:59
3.    "Lit Up"    2:55
4.    "Looking for Astronauts"    3:23
5.    "Daughters of the SoHo Riots"   3:59
6.    "Baby, We'll Be Fine"    3:21
7.    "Friend of Mine"    3:25
8.    "Val Jester"    3:00
9.    "All the Wine"   3:15
10.    "Abel"    3:37
11.    "The Geese of Beverly Road"    4:57
12.    "City Middle"   4:28
13.    "Mr. November"    3:57

34.30... Tropical #### (rhymes w duck) Storm- a laughing death in meatspace (2018)

You let my tyres down

Rubber bullies

Tyres is one of my favorite tunes of the last five years. I had a Drones tune or two playlisted randomly, but I never really listened until TFS. Big fan.

ah.. you're right. I spaced on the Dyke and When the Cat's Away picks.

you've seen When the Cat's Away? have we already talked about this?

I have not!  Definitely must watch; you're right that it sounds up my alley.

Speaking of movies, just finished Uncut Gems.  I tend to agree with KP on this one - mostly kinda boring.  It wasn't too shouty or too intense or whatever to me.  I did think the last 25-30 minutes were much better than the rest, though.  Didn't love or hate.  Just OK.

53.31 Crowded House - Temple of Low Men (1988)

Wore this album out my Freshman year of college.  Love every song on it. I think Neil Finn has been lauded here, but I can't emphasize how much I love his lyrics.

1. I Feel Possessed

2. Kill Eye

3. Into Temptation

4. Mansion in the Slums

5. When You Come

6. Never Be the Same

7. Love This Life

8. Sister Madly

9. In the Lowlands

10. Better Be Home Soon

Could have easily gone with "I Feel Possessed", "Mansion in the Sulms" "Love This Life" or "Be Home Soon".
1 agree 100% about Mr. Finn's lyrical prowess.

Also, I found my notes from the angry Saturday playlist listen and couldn't read half of them as I scribbled in between putting that thing together.  I was a lot of stuff that I had year before, but I mixed up my Tom Waits comments, and my notes were:

Angry, indeed. 🤣

Two of my favorite songs in the mix.

To each their own. 😀

####.  How far back?
Check back through at least Round 26.  Since you have usually been behind in picks, you might wish to check back further.  KP stopped around Round 26, but if you had make-ups going back before that, they wouldn't be in there either.  Also, don't be fooled if you see a couple were entered here and there as a few of us have spottily but not consistently added some to try to help.

36.18 - Tunnel of Love - Bruce Springsteen (1987)

Artist drafted at 2.32 by @Northern Voice (Born to Run), 6.07 by @MAC_32 (The River), 7.16 by @The Dreaded Marco (Darkness etc.), 9.15 by @Chaos Commish (Live 75-85)

This is probably my third favorite Springsteen album after Darkness and Born to Run.  It's a more introspective affair delivered in the midst of professional success beyond his wildest dreams and the personal trauma of his failing marriage to Julianne Phillips.

Sometimes you have to listen past the 80s synths but the collection of songs is among Springsteen's strongest, especially the heartfelt second side (tracks 7-12).

Brilliant Disguise

While You're Alone
Great pick and I agree 100% with your assessment of it. Minor quibble is your second linked song is actually called "When You're Alone".
