Jason Huntley RB Eagles - Deep league stash? (1 Viewer)

Saw this guy was claimed by the Eagles after he was a surprise cut from the Lions, having been drafted in the 5th round.

Didn't get a combine invite, but the pro day numbers were good:

  • 4.37 40 yard
  • 131" broad jump
  • 39.5" vertical
  • 21 bench press reps
  • 7.19 three cone
  • 4.25 shuttle
  • Pretty small at 5'9" 193lbs
Not inspiring that he was cut from a team that had to sign Adrian Peterson off the street, but honestly getting away from Detroit is a plus for any RB. I've got him rostered in Zealots (51 player rosters), but he's probably not worth rostering outside of huge leagues like that. Maybe a name to keep an eye on though.

Obligatory highlight video

Watching those highlights, he's probably just a return specialist in the NFL. He's got top tier straight line speed, but nothing else stood out as particularly special in his highlights.

Eagles claimed RB Jason Huntley off waivers from the Lions.

Huntley was the Lions' fifth-round pick in April, but he didn't make it through final cuts after Detroit added Adrian Peterson to a backfield that already included D'Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson. Huntley slides in as the Eagles' No. 4 running back behind Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Corey Clement. Huntley is very slight at 5'9/194 but was electric with the ball in his hands at New Mexico State.

Huntley is an intriguing addition for Philly, but I find it interesting that the Eagles released Adrian Killins, Jr. (and subsequently added him to their practice squad), only to give that roster spot to a very similar back in Huntley.  Huntley has 20 pounds on Killins, and perhaps that was the difference for the Eagles, but if the Eagles wanted an undersized speed back who can fill a variety of roles, including as a return specialist, they already had one in Killins.
