I was recently listening to an interview with Jake Roberts on terrestrial radio. The host was talking to Jake about the now well known story of how DDP saved Jake and Scott Hall from near certain drug related deaths. The host then asked Jake which wrestler he suspects will be the next to die if he doesn't get help soon. Usually people will duck such a dark question because they don't want to air other people's dirty laundry. Jake didn't waste a second in answering the question, though. He quickly and matter-of-factly said Marty Jannety.

I knew Marty was a drug-related trainwreck, but I didn't know he was Jake level trainwreck.
I don't think there was any other reason why Jannety never had a long career as a mid to upper-card talent. Every time he seemed to get a push, he'd go and get arrested or fail a drug test. Michaels wisened up enough to stay employable during his run in the 90s. Janetty, not so much.
Yeah, I remember hearing the story being that when they were planning to split the Rockers up that Jannetty was going to get the big singles push, but Vince switched to Michaels when Jannetty showed up to some meeting so drunk he could barely speak coherently. Somewhat similar thing happened after Bulldog won the IC title from Bret Hart, Bulldog immediately failed a drug test for steroids, at the worst possible time, so they moved the IC title to Michaels and fired Bulldog shortly thereafter.
Conclusion - Drugs helped Shawn get over

I suspect the real reason for fazing out the curb stomp is due to a face turn. Similar to how they stopped calling the Cena's Attitude Adjustment the F-U.

Pat Patterson wanting to bone Shawn probably also contributed to his push.

Not just Michaels. Bret Hart went from mid card IC champ to face of the company because Hogan, Warrior and Savage were all under steroid suspicion, so he sorta instantly became the #1 face, his only competition was Mr. Perfect who was just coming off missing a year due to a back injury, though at the time Perfect taking the title from Ric Flair probably would have made for a better story, even if it wasn't the guy they wanted to be champion.

Speaking of Mr. Perfect, as a kid I always thought it added a bit of credibility to Flair(not that he needed it) that he had Perfect as a manger while he was hurt. I was thinking, why don't they still do that. like, why couldn't Daniel Bryan have managed somebody while he as injured last year, they could have played it as someone he believed could continue his fight against the authority or something like that.

Looks like a good thing they didn't cave in again and give Bryan the world title again. Though I'm not sure WWE wants it whatsoever, appears likely they'll have to make him a 'special attraction' type if they want to continue to have him wrestling. I'm sure this guy has wrestled less than a dozen times since he's come back from injury. At some point I think you gotta ask if it's worth it anymore.

Bo sporting facial hair a foreshadowing of a reunion with his big brother?
If that's what they're going for, they've laid a good foundation. A few times now he's come out and tried to "encourage" a wrestler to "bo-lieve" after a tough loss only to get the crap kicked out of him. A guy can only take so much before that positivity turns to despair. With that beard you can certainty see the resemblance.

They're really going to put Reigns vs Big Show on in front of a Chicago crowd huh. Oh boy...
:lmao: Oh Lord. These guys are STILL fighting?? :lmao:

They had at least 3 singles matches this year pre-Mania to 'help get Reigns over'. Maybe since Show won the Andre Battle Royal it'll actually work this time :excited:
If Vince has the beginning stages of dementia, this would be good proof of it.
I don't like it either, but what else can they do with Reigns? The fans have made it very clear they don't want him in the main event scene, and he isn't a good fit with the lightweights and middleweights in the IC title picture. The fans wanted him bumped down to the midcard, and so here he is.

1 - Arm Drag
2 - Arm Bar
3 - The Moss Covered, Three Handled Family Grudunzle
4 - Arm Bar
5 - The Saskatchewan Spinning Nerve Hold
6 - Body Slam
7 - Drop Toe Hold
8 - Arm Bar
9 - Shooting Star Staple Super Press
10 - Right Handed Arm Bar
11 - Lionsault
12 - Knife Edge Chop
13 - Arm Bar
14 - Piledriver
15 - Jericho Arm Bar
16 - Canadian Arm Drag
17 - Canadian Maple Leaf
18 - Arm Bar
19 - Liontamer
20 - Missile Drop Kick
21 - Drop Kick
22 - Jericho Back Breaker
23 - Kick
24 - Missile Drop Kick Off The Top Rope
25 - Side Head Lock
26 - Arm Bar....
Don't forget the dot matrix printer paper.
That was an amazing promo, probably one of the best ever, but going back and watching it, watch Jericho's match right before against late-career Marty Jannetty. The Liontamer has never EVER looked better, Jannetty looks like he's gonna snap in half.
it is about my favorite thing ever

EVERY time i see it i laugh and laugh
Everything about it was perfect. The number of moves (not 1001, but 1004  ), the printing paper, the names of the moves, the repeated use of arm bar, him still doing it when they come back from commercial break supposedly having read through 100s of moves, the flustered look when he was kicked out of the ring barely able to keep the giant pile of paper from spilling out of his hands. So awesome.

The fact that Kane and the Big Show are still main event players with the roster of younger potential stars at their disposal makes me ill. Creative has just totally lost its way outside of a few bright spots (Rollins cash in) or when they are saved by a great technic wrestling match by one of the underutilized players.
:goodposting: I still think Show and Kane has a role they can play, but to still be actively wrestling in PPVs while a guy like Bray is not.

Is Bray's absence due to his ankle injury sustained during the WM warmups?

Rollins heel is pretty near perfect. So good I think he holds the belt until Wrestlemania next year

If only there was a roster of underutilized wrestlers that could have a better match than Old Show.

Good mention on Cheap Heat: if you are banning the Curb Stomp (due to possible concussion lawsuits coming up), why not make that a stipulation in the Rollins/Orton match on Sunday.

Like who? Everyone in his league is either hurt or already in a program with someone else.

Are you kidding me? Reigns is so vanilla in the ring it's not funny.Superman Punch, Spear... wash, rinse, repeat.

Big Show, one of the best Giants in wrestling history is not the problem in that equation. Dude has earned his stripes and has been killing it on the mic.

You'll all miss him when he's gone.

IIRC, they changed the name of the F-U long after the face turn, coinciding instead with RAW going PG.

Hot crowd tonight. I hope they're also respectful.

And of course the CM Punk chants are already constant.

Decent PPV so far. I agree with lame Ambrose/Harper finish. Just didnt care enough by the time it happened.

Love New Day as heels. Gimmick screamed heel.

I think they made the Russian chain too long. You're supposed to drag your opponent to the corners, not just walk to them while your opponent is in the middle of the ring.

Since the RKO is banned, Randy should bust out a diamond cutter instead. That would be the smartest Dusty finish ever.

Seriously, best tag match I've seen in years. Hope we get a long feud for these two teams.
I thought that was the match of the night, and as much as New Day as heels looks good, I'm extremely intrigued by Cesaro/Kidd as potential faces.

Was my favorite match of the night.Who woulda thunk a new refreshing feud could be enjoyable.

Nice to see Neville go over. I think they've done a solid job so far building him up. Even if I'm not super high on him as a singles guy long term, any new faces on the show are good.

Can't believe WWE still thinks fans care 'who will Kane side with?' They've done these turns so many times with him (and Big Show) that no one cares.

Really have to wonder how bad Daniel Bryan is hurt. Hard to believe this is gonna turn out good if they continue having him wrestling every week.

New Day works as a heel faction. They seem to be good workers and elicit a good response.
I'm actually excited that Kofi will get a chance to work heel for once in his WWE career.
Big E should have been a heel from the beginning, but I've been dead set against Kofi turning. I can sort of see how this could work though... he could be excellent in the weasel role. Xavier Woods is so $$$ as a bad guy too.

Last man standing is a rough concept that makes for slow matches, but I think it worked here because all these guys do is hit huge impact moves.
:lmao: at Big Show with the announcer's notebook. Haters are gonna hate, but Big Show has been pretty solid lately on the mic and ad libbing.

The Divas match tonight was alright, but is it too much to ask that we get some clear face and heel roles in that division? Why does every woman wrestler have to only act like a catty ##### with her fellow female wrestlers? It's tough to get a crowd into a match when you don't have anyone to really root for/against.
