Shark Pool Mock #2 - "What teams WILL do" - Spots open. (1 Viewer)

2.42: RT Menelik Watson

Philbin likes athletic offensive lineman and Watson certainly fits the bill there; a former basketball player that runs a 4.7 40 (his combine time was much slower than that actually). Should step right in at right tackle assuming Miami doesn't acquire a FA or deal this pick for Albert. Terron Armstead would be another fit if Watson is off the table. With the two biggest needs filled pretty well at this point, team can afford to go BPA the rest of the way.

2.43 - Gavin Escobar, TE - SDSU

A guy to learn from Dallas Clark how to be like Dallas Clark was in his prime.

Suggestions for Carolina?

Vikings looking to trade up from 52.

Offering 2nd rounder(52) and the 5th pick in the 4th round(102) looking to get in this range
IMO, Carolina would have to at least consider this. Get some depth.

ETA: don't remember why, but their 3rd belongs to San Fran; picking up a high 4th makes even more sense IMO.

Trying to make sure I've got the correct order of upcoming picks

Minnesota Vikings select:

Justin Hunter,WR TENN

Address their need at WR. Recently Cris Carter has said he's "had discussions" with Vikings officials about Hunter.

Look for the Rams to stand pat at the 46th overall. There's two guys still on the board that make perfect sense for them, including a real cherry that has fallen on their lap.

I think I know who they'd be looking at and its someone Dallas has significant interest in.

So Pugh for SD? After they took Warmack in the 1st? Or do they go somewhere else? What else do they need? DL? WR?

He's easily BPA. Might be a top 20 pick and should go in the first.

Rivers needs protection. Currently the Chargers OL is bottom 5.

2.45 - Justin Pugh, OT/OG - Syracuse

I do like the suggestion of Damontre Moore as either he or Corey Lemonier might be considered. Linebackers in general...

The two ways the Rams could go: OG Kyle Long or S DJ Swearinger

Kyle Long is the brother of Chris Long. He's a physical specimen at 6'6, 313 that can move very well for someone in his position and his strength is pass protection, which Sam Bradford would appreciate. He could be BPA with his skillset. But he is inexperienced, and he also needs a solid support system around him to keep a lid on his knucklehead tendencies.

DJ Swearinger would fill a major need for the Rams. He plays with a mean streak, a high motor, and is very well respected by his teammates. He's the kind of guy that Fisher loves. The issue is if the Rams gamble on getting their guy in the 3rd, as safety is a deep position this draft. Shamarko or Phillip Thomas could be available in the 3rd.

In conclusion, it's very easy for the Rams to go either way here. But the need to make sure Bradford is protected, the fact that Long is BPA, that safety is deep, AND the family connection, Long gets the slight edge.

With the 46th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select...Kyle Long, Offensive Guard, Oregon

Dallas could go multiple directions here too. They have major needs at OL, DL, and Safety. In this mock, they went DL in round 1. They still have to fill the other spots.

In looking at their official visit list, which historically has been a strong indicator of interest for the team, they've brought in many OL prospects that are targeted to go in the first 75 picks and almost none thereafter. In contrast, they have looked at safeties who can reasonably go well into the 4th rounds. In contrast, Elam is the remaining safety in the 2nd tier and there is a material drop off thereafter.

Weighing these various items, i think Dallas ultimately goes OL with this pick, assuming another position in the first. So with that stated, the Cowboys pick:

T. Armstead OG/OT.

Now if Jerry mixes up his Viagra with his regular meds, I could see them go crazy with something like Marcus Lattimore or Giovanni Bernard. But I'll assume Garrett has enough pull to keep Jerry for going too crazy and stay OL.

I'll also add that if Dallas went OL in round 1, that DL would be in play here. D. Moore would be strongly considered in that circumstance, along with Kawann Short. Also, the safety Reid would get very, very strong consideration.

So many solid choices for them, so few picks.
