Best move ever.

Thoughts on the CRo PK shouts?

Imo, he's already committed to falling before contact. If he'd let the defender initiate contact, could've been 2 PKs.

And clear handball on Shaw.

That game was nuts. And HAD to be LingardLegend

I thought first was a pen, not the second.

Ronaldo needs to wait for the contact to throw himself over.  If he runs until contact he has one PK for sure, and maybe two.

Yeah - I agree, both were very close - all 3 in fact.  Any of the 3 could go either way.  I think I would have given the first Ronaldo one because it's a foul.  Just because the ball had gotten away from him doesn't mean anything - the player fouled him.  But he was definitely looking for both.

Emotions on whether Ole is up for it goes back and forth for every 90'.  They talked prior to the game and Robbie said he doesn't see it - I mostly agree with him

The Analyst@OptaAnalyst

David de Gea saves a penalty for the first time since April 23, 2016 (vs Romelu Lukaku).

That save ends a run of 40 successive penalties faced for club & country without a save (including shootouts).

Ronaldo should have had 2 pks at least.  Especially since the ref already called a foul on Pogba because Zouma dove over him without any contact. At least there was real contact on Ronaldo.

And if Lingard can keep scoring and stop setting up goals for the other team, I may be forced to take back everything I have said.

Thank goodness Moyes learned nothing by watching the Euros and putting in cold players to take PKs.  United were the better team and deserved the 3 points despite Atkinson's best efforts.

And now they get to run it back midweek for the League Cup....

City, Liverpool, Everton and Leeds League Cup matches are on ESPN+.

Liverpool is starting Kaide Gordon -- 16 year old touted as the next academy product who'll make the jump.

Go Ahead Eagles holding strong against PSV at De Adelaarshorst. 1-1 in the 80th min.  Who says ESPN+ isn't the best value in the entertainment world!

United fans, looks like we got all of this year's PKs  given last year instead.

2 not given Sunday in EPL vs WHU
1 already not given today in the EEL vs WHU

United is out, 1-0 to WHU.  Hate to lose and not challenge for a trophy but I am glad Ole rotated and let a lot go 90.  Several needed the game time so they can be fit and ready when called upon.

I’m not - Ole needs to win.  Sure it’s a crap cup but if you can’t win the cups nobody cares about why would anybody think he could win something big.  Put up or shut up time for me - win a trophy this year or get out.

Chelsea also through.  Highlight for me today is seeing N'Golo Kante in a massive oversized Wenger-style full length puffy coat after he came off.  Hard to describe, but it brought a smile to my face.

They had the players to win that game.  Ole had to rotate.  You can't continue to bring in players and not give them time.

I agree they need to win something.  But you also have to show your players the trust and they need to respond.  EPL, CL, FA Cup, EEL.... rotate the damn squad.

In the long run, yes it sucks to not compete for this trophy, but it will go along way to helping the team in the other three competitions.

He no longer gets the benefit of the doubt with me - if he can’t win rotating that’s on him.

That's a different argument. Are the depth guys good enough?  Do they get enough minutes and backing and do they take the opportunity to fight for the first team?

And yes they need to be winning these games.  But the rotation and lineup was good.  Subs were good.  Denied a PK is bad.

They hit the bar, keeper made some good saves, they were on the front foot.  A lot of positives in this game.

NY/NJ derby...couple of bad calls, imo, against NYC. Keaton gets a straight red for a genuinely bad tackle, but should have been yellow, imo. And then a PK in the 96th minute where the defender didn't know much about it, had his arm most by his side, but the hand popped up instinctively after the ball hit it. Not a handball for me. Ended 1-1.

He has the players/depth to win - the rest is just making excuses for him, IMO.  I like what they’ve done so far in the league and he was undone by AWB and Lingard in CL match day 1. Ultimately he’ll be judged on that but he needs to win something and he let one chance get away today.

You are right, he will be judged on the EPL and CL results, with a dose of the FA Cup.  And no excuses, he does need to start winning these games and getting trophies.  But rotation and making sure players are ready for to play is huge.

Upcoming Fixtures:
AV - EPL
Villareal - CL
Everton - EPL
Leicester - EPL
Atalanta - CL
Liverpool - EPL
Tottenham - EPL
Atalanta - CL
City - EPL
Watford - EPL
Villareal - CL
Chelsea - EPL
Arsenal - EPL

Young Boys _ CL

Have both games pulled up -not been great.

I don't think I knew NBC had a 2nd announcing pair, I wish they did not.  Also odd that they did not use White/Dixon on Chelsea v. Man City.  Even if you assume they might call the North London Derby, they could call two games in London in a weekend.

Once again, way offsides just over midfield and offsides called as ball goes into net. I know they're waiting for play to develop but it seems like the flags are really late
