Man united really are quite awful. They look totally asleep and now a straight red for Bruno. Gotta imagine ETH will be gone by Christmas

Fernandes electing to go ahead and make that challenge after he's already slipped is pretty damn dumb. At that point it's guaranteed to be nothing but studs and he didn't have to do it -- he extends into the contact all the way through his fall.

But studs or no... how is that enough contact for a red card?

Did he try to make a tackle? That's seems to be the bar at this point

Never a red card. Dumb tackle for sure. But it was not studs up, wasn't high, zero force, minimal contact as his heal hits Madison in the shin pad. And he slipped.

Could United have regrouped down 1-0 at the half? Maybe. Doubtful, but maybe. They were terrible in the first half.
After the red? obviously not.

Dalot is not a left back. He has been so bad for several games why not play Amass whether he is ready or not. Couldn't be worse. Maybe he would track back and not let Johnson have a tap in.

Dalot is the best United player on the field. Can't say he's had a bad game all year. That's a weird take.
Bruno was a marginal red. Stupid foul, looked way worse than it was and tbh, I think the ref should have given him a bit of a break and shown a yellow as he's not typically a dirty player. If it was given a yellow, no way VAR would have changed it to red. But as it was given red, very difficult to show it was clear and obvious error. Bigger issue is him missing next three games which are pretty vital to get points.
But BIGGER issue is United has 5 ****ing goals in their first 6 games and only a single goal at home.
three of those goals came against a 10 man Soton team who is the only team in the premier league to score FEWER goals than United.
Absolute disaster of a start to the season. Drawing at home vs Twente was no good either.

Dalot failed to track back and gave his player a sitter for Spurs first goal.
Against Twente he gave away a ball on his own endline that lead to a cross and a free shot that just missed the near post.
His defending is poor, his passing is poor. Not sure how you can remotely call him their best player. Maz has been so much better than Dalot.

Dalot has been absolutely atrocious this season on the left.

VAR should have sent the ref to the monitor to look. But that was not even marginal, yellow maybe, foul for sure. Heck Maddison even said it wasn't a red. He hasn't been good so maybe 3 games off isn't a bad thing. United has looked better with Erikson on anyway.

The rest of this is spot on. They are not scoring goals and putting pressure on teams.
Zirkzee doesn't look like a scorer. I like what he does through the middle of the park, but they need him to score.

He's the highest rated player on United by a fair margin. It's actually not that close. Choose whatever metric you want. He's been on premier team of the league at least once so far this season, maybe twice.
Here's one free source for player rankings.

I did not watch the Twente game, so I can't comment on that, but even by my eye test, he's been their best player all year long.

:banned:no worries. You and I are watching different games I guess. Seems I mark him down farther for not playing defense more than others do.

Now ask him what he thinks about Michael Oliver....

:lmao:

Was just going to say Michael Oliver is routinely ranked as the top ref in England and everyone is starting to realize he is the absolute worst.

You mean like this from a month ago where he's still listed as the best?

Ok... 18yo sub for Milan draws a straight red. Just thinking about it compared to Martinez.

This kid slid straight at the attacker, won ball and hammered the guy afterwards. Looked to intentionally keep his studs angled down as he slid. Straight red. For me, not even a foul...and I know it ended up destroying the other player. And then we have Martinez who freaking jumped/stomped down with both feet into the tackle and only gets a yellow.

Blows out.
If I am looking at the correct video (on twitter), he goes through the ball and studs up on the foot/ankle. As much as I agree with you because we are old school, today that's a red every time. Except if you play for City. And the contact is what was lacking for Martinez to get a red.
I saw it once and one replay... Looked like studs down as much as humanly possible when sliding. For me, if that's a red they need to just make slide tackles illegal. But your comment makes think I need to see the video again.
I can't see how this is a red in any situation.

Gotta agree with Floppo here. That's essentially a textbook slide tackle.
absolutely not a red card. No card and no foul on the play. Attacker went for it, even though the other guy was sliding in. Attacker should have jumped over him or avoided contact if possible.

Nice to see Eidur Gudjohnsen's son Andri Gudjohnsen starting up front for Gent at Stamford Bridge today in the Conference League. Although not a huge club, Gent is one of the better known clubs I've seen so far in this tournament of minnows. According to a meme circulating on Twitter, the most valuable 11 in the tournament per Transfermarkt valuations have Chelsea players at all 11 positions. Reading up a bit on Gent this morning, I saw this helpful note regarding the English translation of their team nickname: "... often simply known as Gent or by their nickname De Buffalo's (English: The Buffalos)."

Hearing the Theater of Dreams scream bloody murder is rewarding. Having lived through 1998-2015 as a Liverpool supporter it's hard to believe how hard it's swung back the other way.

Gravenberch has been completely reborn in this system. The three midfielders have so much quality on the ball, with incredible work rates. TBD if they hold up defensively against top teams, but man do they look solid so far.

Cool stuff. Always was a fan of Eidur. Looks like his son got a nice assist.

And Bruno sees red, since the weekend's didn't stick. Second yellow so can't be reviewed.
High boot, no contact from what I could see.

Off top of the league by one goal despite a points deduction. Still not convinced we've played anyone good yet, but we can only play what the fixture computer puts in front of us

Through 7 games, only Southampton have scored fewer goals (4) than Manchester United (5).

Hell, Brentford has only scored 1 less goal in the first 2 minutes of their matches than MU has scored in 7 full matches.

England have never lost more than three times at home in any calendar going back to the 1800’s.

The loss to Greece today was their 3rd loss at home in 2024.

I believe they have one more game at home in 2024.

Looks like El Alto Stadium in Bolivia is already paying dividends.

Bolivia beat a strong Colombia team yesterday in World Cup Qualifying despite being down to 10 men for 70 minutes of the game.
