Well, easiest goal ever for Ipswich
Onana comes to far out, Dorgu doesn't see him, knocks the ball around him for an easy Ipswich tap in.

And Dalot is just awful.

2-1 United after De Ligt goal

And there's the red for Dorgu. Studs up on the shin after going through the ball. Slick field hard tackle. The way they call these in today's game, I can't argue.

Yellow for kicking the ball away after the whistle. That and taking your shirt off after a goal have to be the two worst bookings to get. Just stop it. No need for anyone to get booked for either of those at this point.

meanwhile in Coppa Italia, Juve are playing an Empoli team that hasn't won in almost 3 months and is fielding mostly 2nd team players.

losing 1-0 and it should be more with the 2nd half just starting.

I'm listening in- half-time analysts were aghast at how badly Juve were playing.

and they crash out in PKs. Yildiz and Vlahovic both miss to seal the result.

zero hardware for our boys at Juve this year, as there's no way they win the Scudetto.

I know this will sound bonkers when the incumbent trio is Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano, but...

Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai might be the best midfield unit I've ever seen play for Liverpool. They're miles better as a group than Klopp's best threesome of Fab, Henderson and Wijnaldum. They do everything those guys did behind the ball, but are so much more skilled and dangerous offensively.

still winning though.
Yeah, more of a general comment about players getting booked for stupid, very avoidable things. And yes the shirt law probably needs to be changed, but while its still there, no one should be getting themselves booked for it.

People still aren’t talking about Grav enough. His body position and first touch/no touch is filthy

Yeah, early in the season you kind of thought the league would figure him out and stop that turn. But now it seems like something he can do almost at will. It's a different combination of skills than Thiago used to do the same thing (he didn't let the ball run the same way Grav does), but Thiago could go past the closest marker the same way when he received a pass.

Liverpool may not win the title -- 17 games left is a bunch. But...
  • The Klopp-to-Slot transition, against all odds, seems to have been seamless.
  • Liverpool are 1st in the PL, 1st in the CL, in the semis of the League Cup, and still alive in the FA Cup with an lower division 4th rounder.
  • Yesterday Liverpool pull a win out in injury time while Arsenal throws away a 2-0 lead to fall 6 points back having played one more.
  • City are 12 points back having played one more, and waiting to find out just how many points and years worth of justice they're to be hit with.
  • United are in 13th, with a negative GD for the last 60+ EPL matches.
  • Everton are fighting relegation (I don't actually care about Everton, but I'm committing to the bit)
...times are good.

It would suck to see the Merseyside Derby go away for Liverpool and Everton fans alike.
True, but Everton have been due a relegation for 30+ years. If they actually went down, maybe it'd wake the club up as to their failures

Unbeaten in 7 straight. Seems that things are starting to turn around.

and meanwhile PSV in a freefall.

I had just assumed they were so far ahead that all of these dropped points wouldn't hurt them.

PSV is 5 points behind leaders Ajax.

can't be a coincidence this started with the US players going down injured

Ferguson hand-picked Moyes to be his successor at United and his time there looks a hell of a lot better in hindsight. He's a really good manager IMO. Has always gotten a lot of out of his teams.
I have gone back and forth on Moyes over the years. At times I have thought he got the most out of his teams and other times he holds them back. He probably is a good manager.

I honestly think that only Jose had enough to be successful following Sir Alex so Moyes was in a no win position. He inherited a team that won the league running away, but also one that was aging. Many argue they were average at best, but the core was multiple title winners so I am not sure I agree.

His biggest mistake was getting rid of everyone on the backroom staff connected with Sir Alex and trying to change everything to his way immediately. Not just staff, but trivial things like routines, what type of food is served and when, to music in the locker room, etc. Had he taken his time to transition to his ideals, schedule, nutrition I think he would have got better buy in and may have survived. Taking a veteran team that had just won the title, and the majority having won several titles, him changing everything just blew it up.

And I will never forgive him for Fellani. But will thank him for Mata.

First game of the day in the bank, Stockport Georgians 3-1 Sandbach United, stupidly early kickoff at 11am but it is part of the yearly ground hop weekend which allows people to get to multiple games in one day, as many as 4 if you're a complete madman. Up next in two and a half hours is a revisit to New Mills as they face Cheadle Heath Nomads

well, everyone must be so shocked by Arsenal scoring 7 in the Champions League, they aren't talking about it. Oh wait, vs PSV, must be in the USMNT thread.

Villa rolls out 3-1 winners
Real 2-1 over Atletico in the Madrid Derby,
Dortmund and Lille draw 1-1

PSG 1.37 - 0.13 Liverpool (xG at the half)

The red team is getting run off the field so far, but would sign up for another half just like it if they can keep PSG off the board going back to Anfield.

Here's an absolutely absurd stat:

The lineup Slot put out tonight is the 6th time this season he's named exactly the same one.

Klopp coached 491 games with Liverpool and never named the exact same lineup more than... five times.

Been a while since I'd insta-accept an offer to end the match tied or losing. Liverpool will be lucky to get out level.

I am shocked at PSG's domination. I have not seen them play a lot this year but they are dominating Liverpool every where but on the score board.

71-29 Possession
23-1 Shots
12-2 Corner Kicks

PSG are going to feel awful if they only get a draw out of this performance (at least so far).

Don't mind the sitting back, they've done that a few times this year and strolled by taking their chances on the counter. But this isn't that -- they're conceding quite a bit of dangerous possession and shots. And creating nothing.

Also, Alisson is a damned stud.

Really hope this is a home field advantage issue and they can flip the script at Anfield.
