It’s become a one-sided rivalry
Messi's World Cup looks more and more like Peyton Manning's 2nd Super Bowl win. Where Manning finally had an absolutely incredible team around him and he didn't have to do the superheroics to get the W. Messi didn't play last night, btw.
There was a game during their first Copa title run where I remember seeing it. Messi wasn't having a particularly great game but the rest of the team willed them to victory. A noticeable shift in their mentality..

Agreed.

They've always had talent, but they used to play below the sum of their parts. There wasn't an identity. It was just 11 players.

Like the US team right now. Not sure how it shifted, but definitely has (and Brazil seems to have flip flopped and feels less like a team than historically).

Chelsea and Arsenal women both overcame 0-2 first leg deficits with 3-0 second leg wins to advance to the champions league semifinals. Arsenal over Real Madrid and Chelsea beating Man City just now.

Naomi Girma has only made one appearance for Chelsea - started her first game a few weeks ago and went off injured.

Forest is no joke. They defend as a team and counter like its the end of the world. Elanga coming back to haunt United with a box to box run and nice finish.

United looked better for more of the game than they have. Still not as precise with their touches and passes as you would want from them. And just can't find the back of the net.
Dalot and Garnacho did their usual 1 good play/1 bad play balancing act.
Yoro and De Ligt had good games.
Just need to find that service and someone creating goals.

Tough 1-0 loss, but an encouraging game to watch after the break. And their next few are City, at Lyon, at Newcastle, Lyon.

Harry Maguire accumulated more xG in Added Time against Nott’m Forest than Rasmus Hojlund has in his last 15 appearances.

Not even an April Fools.

I didn't know Owen Goals counted towards xG

:lmao:

Yeah but Maguire channeled his inner :fro: and went in at Striker. Had like 3 shots too.

Mah-sheen, he is

More Mike McCarthy level game management, this time from Everton. Free kick deep into the fourth minute of four added minutes in a position where it can be delivered into the box. Rather than sending Pickford up, they just lump it into the box, Kelleher catches it, instantly half time. So dumb.

I'm so ****ing sick of Everton and the liberties they're allowed to take.
Im not aware... What are they doing? Rough play, or some kind of administrative thing?

Or am I falling for an April fools thing again.
Oh he's just upset that Everton isn't called for a foul every time they touch a Liverpool player.

Or maybe that Pickford is allowed to catch an uncontested ball and lie down for 10 mins.

Watch the full clip to see how bad the tackle really was. The video doesn't do it justice.
Watched it, His follow through after playing the ball leads him into the man. And yes the connection looks bad. That should never be a foul on the player playing the ball. Yeah I know, I am in the minority and showing my old school mentality on fouls. And it has nothing to do with it being vs Liverpool.

BUT, I will say the way the game is officiated these days I am surprised that the ref or VAR didn't give a red. I would hate it but it's the way it goes in the modern game.

Ok, saw the Pickford one and that is bad. Pickford was nowhere near playing the ball. Should be a PK. Guess he's lucky you are not allowed to touch a keeper.

On the Pickford on Nunez one the ref had seemingly already blown for a foul earlier in play so no pen could be awarded, although the challenge was clearly worthy of one

Christian Romero picked up a straight red against Chelsea for a far more innocuous follow through - via VAR intervention.

It’s the inconsistency that is the bigger issue. But Tark left his feet and was extremely reckless- and should have been sent off for dangerous play…

Yeah, agreed. That's a dream tackle from my playing days- clearly all ball and then destroy the opposing player. But these days... no surprise if that's a red.

Better late than never I guess...

[Paul Joyce] The PGMOL has acknowledged that Everton captain James Tarkowski should have been red carded for his challenge on Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Would be nice for some of these to go the other way. Where the PGMOL was apologizing to Liverpool's opponent. Pickford doing van Dijk's ACL, the infamous Diaz non-goal vs Tottenham, the Odegaard handball vs Arsenal, this one, the MacAllister red overturned after the fact. A lot of big calls acknowledged to be wrong in the last couple seasons. Feels like I'm forgetting one too.

Oh for sure the inconsistency is the biggest issue. You never know what the ref/VAR is going to do from game to game, let alone minute to minute in the same game.

woof

Fulham have pressed Liverpool into oblivion. And Liverpool have made it easy on them by repetedly teeing them up for dangerous chances with truly horrific giveaways in dangerous spots.

Thank god Arsenal keep dropping points, because this team is not the same one it was two months ago.

Consider it a small make-up gesture from the Blues.

Man City are so horrible to watch
To be fair, the age of both midfields was quite impressive.

Neither team deserved to win, but City was even more pedestrian than United.
but at least United fans insulted Foden's mom... so there's that.
Yeah that's not cool. I heard about it after, didn't notice during the game. Fans can be despicable at times (chants about Munich, Hillsboro, Foden's mom)

Leicester City have now lost 8 consecutive home games in the Premier League without scoring. That's a first.

This is why clubs shouldn’t listen to their fans about coaching hires - there was a segment of United fans who wanted RvN.
I do feel bad for RvN. I was excited when he joined the staff at United, hoping he could get the strikers going. But the fall of ETH kind of left him out in the cold. United looked good under him for his couple games in charge, but he wouldn't have been more then a caretaker whether Amorim came in when he did or after the season.

I think it was a bad move to take a midseason Leicester team that was devoid of a lot of talent though. Hopefully he gets another chance somewhere.
