Kane hits a pk, has one saved, then scores in the 4th minute of 5 in injury time to get the win.

The Pokal has given Bayern a fit for a few years now

Onana sucks
To be fair the one pen he saved the first time round was a great save, that was not a bad pen in the slightest
The one he accidently saved? No it was not a great save. He had 2 others just like it he couldn't save.
It is almost as if high penalties with any element of width on them are incredibly high percentage shots and even getting a hand on them is a result. I would love to find the stat I read which indicated that on target penalties in the top half of the goal are scored 95% of the time, compared to 70-75% of pens in general

I don't disagree with this. However for this PK the ball was well inside and just high, not really well placed toward the corner. Heck Onana dove past it (or whatever you want to call what he was doing).
Did have good pace though, grant you that. IMO he should have saved it, and the two others that hit his arm with similar placement.

Here is what the AI summary had to say (FWIW)

Penalty success rates by target zone
Research from studies on professional and elite-level play reveals the following trends for penalty placement:
  • Upper corners: Shots placed high into the corners consistently have the highest success rates, sometimes exceeding 80%. This is because these areas are the hardest for goalkeepers to reach. However, these shots are also the riskiest, with a greater chance of missing the goal entirely.
  • Low corners: This is the most common target for professional players. Analysis of shots in top leagues like the English Premier League found success rates between 77% and 80% for low corner shots. This spot offers a high chance of scoring with a lower risk of missing the target compared to aiming high.
  • Low center: Shots aimed at the central, lower portion of the goal have a significantly lower success rate, with goalkeepers saving the most penalties in this area. For example, one study found a success rate below 67% for these shots.
  • High center: While statistically very high, with one study finding a 97.8% success rate, aiming for the high center is often avoided. This may be due to the perceived humiliation of missing the goal entirely if the shot is slightly off-target.

The PK we are discussing was somewhat between these two IMO. Which is why I think it should be saved. No GK is getting to a ball in the upper corner. And typically they are diving away from the high center so no chance. Between the two with a good dive and strong hand is a poor spot and better chance to be saved.

@titusbramble yes I might be a little harsh because of how bad Onana is in general, and make any save in this game and they aren't in this spot.

Heck, if you can't get rid of some of these guys, start a non league team with Onana, Antony, Sancho, Garnacho, Rashford, Malacia, Hojlund and see if they can win their way up Wrexham style. Lindelof and Erikson are free to help fill out a team. Don't want to disparage those two though.

My 2c

GKs are taught to dive low and stretch out to do their best to get to that low corner shot. If they save something by having to raise their upper arm and get a strong hand hand on it, imo thats a great PK save. Better than getting to the low corner because it requires split second adjustment.

Good point. Part of what makes a good keeper and a not so good one.

ManU's record versus Grimsby Town is 5W 6D 10L. Don't know why everyone is so surprised by yesterday's result. LOL.
Things that happened between the last of that subset of games you list (compared to their full H2H record) and today include Dewey defeating Truman, the USA beating England in the World Cup, the creation of the European Cup (now Champions League), Pele's debut for Santos, ten plus years where nothing much happened then the creation of the Internet and man walking on the moon. I can have a rough guess as to why the bookmakers didn't look at past results and make Grimsby favourites accordingly

There were ManU and Grimsby fans that were born, lived well into retirement age and died between their two last matches that never saw them play true enough, but records are records. LOL.

I do not understand Diogo Dalot. Sure he had a nice assist but was at fault for one goal, tried to hold everyone on for another goal. Has no feel for the game, his positioning, his runs.
And Mount starting over Sesko and Mainoo.

If you aren't going to start Sesko, at least start Mainoo and not Mount.

And I will say it again ,its not the formation or tactics its the players. Hopefully this gets them scoring when they return from the break and Cunha's hammy heals quickly.

AND FOR THE FAN'S SAKE GET A GOALKEEPER!

Today's game - Rayners Park Vale 0-2 Ashford United. We had awful penalties and a substitute goalkeeper.

At some point I will actually make one up and see if I can get it through
