Poch: In or Out? - You CAN change your vote

(the 5th is the match thread where they are also speculating that Poch has lost the team)

:sigh:

If Poch did not get the sack after a week which included a 7-2 loss at home, a 3-0 loss to Brighton - with an International Break right after - I don't know why Levy would be in a hurry to sack him now.  But the supporters are very restless.

Poch shouldn’t be sacked because of this game.  But, the league form is absolutely horrendous.  As much as he’s done for Spurs, they need to go on a big winning streak or he’s done.  Even Pep or Klopp would be under fire if their teams had a run of results like this.

What a game that was. Anfield was electric.  Unreal that after this insanely tough schedule at the start of the PL, lfc are up 6.

Was a great match. The Liverpool reddit is all sulky but I thought our attack was dominating- we just ran into a magnificent goalkeeping performance.
I thought Tottenham parked it early but they were dangerous on the counter so what do I know?

I thought spurs played smart not trying to run with Liverpool, even if they were too deep too early.

Plus keeping Son up stressing Alexander-Arnold was a really smart tactic I expect others to follow. He’s honestly weak as a defender and any time you can keep him on his heels instead of whipping in crosses that’s a good thing

I thought he was going to be sacked after the 7-2 drubbing by Bayern, followed by the 3-0 loss to Brighton.

And, then again after the home draw to Watford.

Sacking him now - when he survived the earlier debacles would be mad.

One thing that most people overlook - Spurs are not as good as most people picture them.  Defensively, they are in shambles - Toby and Verts were once the best partnership in the league - now they are just aging players who can't keep pace with the demands of Poch's high line.  Spurs have not had a real DM play since Dier picked up a slew of injuries starting last December.  Rose is suspect on the left.  Aurier is suspect on the right.  Sanchez is the future, but still shows his inexperience.  Foyth has only played a little (outside of playing for Argentina), so he still need some bedding in time.  (Which is why the loss to Colchester might have been the worst loss of the season, as it takes away those League Cup matches to give some players minutes).

Poch, too often this year, seems like he wants to leave - and if that is the case, Levy needs to cut bait.  But, I think Levy had been playing a game of chicken with United to see if they woudl sack Ole and come in for Poch, and save Levy having to pay off his contract.   Levy gonna Levy.

This kind of sums up Eriksen's year:

"Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga created more 'big' chances yesterday (1) than midfielder Christian Eriksen managed in the entire game against Liverpool."

Is United serious with these freaking penalities?
I think a few of us could convert these PKs for United... sheesh.

Although it was nice of Rashford to miss his since that shouldn't have been a PK.  Not sure what VAR was watching.

And although it was Norwich (which at this point the opp doesnt matter for MUFC), United looked better then they have.  Really only have 2 complaints. 1) score your damn PKs.  2) Ashley Young.  He put in another horrible performance.

Spurs fans might want to be careful with their Poch out desires.  They could end up with the no longer special Jose.
I am telling you - they are delusional - a large segment WANT Mourinho.

I know Jose probably wants back in - but I have to think even he knows that him at Spurs is just a disaster waiting to happen - the first time he goes to Levy to ask for a transfer budget.

A lot of Arsenal fans want Jose too, now.  The Xhaka captaincy debacle seems to have really put Unai on the hot seat.  FWIW, I've heard Jose has been in contact with Dortmund.

Was this something that pre-dated yesterdays histrionics?

Admittedly, I have been self-absorbed in Spurs woeful year, that I have not paid much attention to what is going on at Arsenal.

Yeah, fans were livid Unai picked Xhaka as captain.  Because most don't think he should be playing in front of Torreira.  I generally think the English obsession with captains is silly (continental teams just give it to the most senior player without worrying about leadership and crap).  And I think Xhaka gets a disproportionate amount of criticism, particularly with Ozil not playing to pick up his share.  But it's clear that the situation has turned too sour for him at Arsenal.  And Arsenal aren't really a team that can afford the luxury of a 6 who isn't an elite ball winner.

The captain discussion is kind of crazy - a lot of Spurs supporters abhor Lloris as a captain - simply because he is a GK.  No other reason.  They seem to think that only an outfield player can be an effective captain.

Its like they think that a player can only motivate his teammates if he has an armband.  And that a Keeper can never motivate his team.

It's a culture that has given me over a decade of John Terry jokes.  I can't complain.

I'll trade you your captains for United's captain....

A lot of United fans seem to have revisionist history on Jose too.  Believing he was let go to soon and he was right and how good it was when he was there.  Heck, not even Chelsea speak fondly of Jose and he won a lot bigger trophies with them!  He is no longer the special one.

Granted the board didn't back him at the end and are not fully backing Ole.  The difference being Jose created a toxic environment.

Bayern just escaped a disaster.

The 2nd round of the DFB Pokal, at VfL Bochum, who are 1-6-3 in BL2.

Alphonso Davies scored an Own Goal in the 37th for Bochum.
Gnabry equalized in the 84th.
Bochum gets a straight red in the 88th for handling the ball, and Müller hits the game winner in the 89th.

phew

Still early in the 2nd half, but Seattle leading lafc 2-1.

I just turned it on, so not sure how it's played out, but Morris looking good...again.

Still time, but Seattle has done a great job bottling up Vela. Roldan has been everywhere, and has doubled up on him more than once.

Single elimination tournament after a long season is weird to me. I know having playoffs is the American way, but it’s still a bit odd.

It's made for some fun games this year. The home and home were always tense, but too often drab affairs.

Pretty terrible of fans to do that, but there were definitely two obvious handballs missed tonight.
According to the current rules- you're absolutely right...both were hands away from body in unnatural positions, and no question the ball hit hand both times.

ETA...I thought MLS used VAR. Should've turned up there.

Wow - obviously anything can happen in these single elimination games but this playoff has setup exactly how Atlanta would have hoped.  I actually like their chances of repeating now.
If your D heals up in time, I love your chances (given you get past Caillou). But Seattle did an amazing job on LAs potent attack, something I could see replicating vs ATL...could make for an interesting game.

And SEAs coach was as pissy in his post game interciew as Caillou Sr was last game. Something in the MLS water

5 - This is only the fifth match in League Cup history to see both teams score 5+ goals, and the first since a 6-6 draw between Dagenham & Redbridge and Brentford in August 2014. Bonkers.

True story - I always schedule Dagenham & Red for pre-season matches on FM
