FA Cup action today. Newcastle gets to play West Brom, a team that will likely replace them in the Premier League next season.

It's not a coincidence that Lovren was starting the game they ended up losing.

He's never been on the same page with the rest of the defense, both physically and mentally.
Maybe. Dedinitely the worst defender for them.

But those holes have been there for a long while...or at least I've noticed and commented on them for a while. That they hadn't been punished is incredible to me (and again, full credit to how well and tight the MF and forwards play defensively)...kinda, but lesser, like how Leicester kept getting away without giving up the goals in their run.

And weirder than them giving up those goals, which to me seemed a foregone conclusion given the high line , was how listless they were in attack. I've been expecting them to give up goals, but not go goalless themselves.

Liverpool starting XI are among the best teams ever - imo.  Well coached, players ideal for the roles they are asked to play, with many at a world-class level.

I think Liverpool's weakness is beyond the XI.

But, I also think Liverpool should get some credit for keeping the starting XI relatively healthy through multiple competitions, so they don't have to rely on the bench.

Good point- especially their key guys. But they have the depth to swap quality guys in outside of those let spots and not lose too much of any beats.

can chelsea find a way to beat liverpool tomorrow...the watford domination has to make the pool vulnerable...

chelsea back end is terrible...

lets go blue...
I'd be shocked if they had a chance honestly.  Liverpool is gonna play their fullbacks high like normal and with Pulisic and CHO still missing for Chelsea, I just don't see the speed needed to take advantage of that, much like the game against Bayern.  Chelsea NEED to sit back and try and counter, but they've struggled on the defensive end this year, so it's hard to see it happening.

FC Sauurbrucken won today in the German Cup which means that a 4th division team (which are the regional leagues in Germany) has made it to the semi finals.
Watched the whole match, excellent. Have a feeling that the Sauurbrucken GK will get some looks from big clubs this summer.

Also, a US international scored during the PK shootout. Pretty sure it was for Düsseldorf

Almiron scores two beauties to put Newcastle up over West Brom at the half 2-0. Saint-Maximin dealt him a nice assist on the first, and Joelinton actually  looks like he has played this sport before. Second time in a row Bruce has tried this 4-2-3-1 and though they didn't score against Burnley, they at least looked a lot better. Today's game is against a much-changed Championship team but they still look good so far.

Miggy breaking out the Josef celebration makes Me strangely emotional.

I think he was MOTM. Should've been if he wasn't.
I was incredibly impressed by him today.  Should've been massive pressure for an 18 year old in that situation and he handled it like he was playing Sunday League.   Very composed and confident and didn't really put a foot wrong all day.

gilmour with a composed game....kepa great in goal...very cool win....willian status a little shaky...

chelsea at king power to face leicster in the next round....2 top 4 PL teams...should be great...

I thin it's more "top 4".

But yeah.

Krul getting subbed on for the PK shootout in the '14 World Cup and screaming insanities at the Costa Ricans is one of my all time favorite footy moments.

Sloppy start but United lead at the break 2-0.  Dalot and Ighalo not on the same page as others (tough with the changes and limited game time)  and a does of Lingard doing Lingard things didn't help them get going.

Rooney can still take a free kick, hit the post.

Shaw started rough with a dumb foul (Dalot didnt help him) and a booking, but rebounded with a goal and an assist to Ighalo

Both teams may have a PK claim for handball but no VAR.

On to Norwich. Shaw for 1, Ighalo for 2....

Wow Rooney still takes a nice free kick.  Forced two good saves from Romero.  And his decision making is still better then Lingard and Pereria's combined.

Burnmouth hit the upper V, have milner clear off the line majestically, and have one of the worst open goal flubs you'll see (as bad as milners clearance was good), which may have been ruled offsides anyways.

Another week with Liverpool looking suspect in the back, but back to getting the win .

Jose getting a little attack crazy in his line-ups now...5 CBs starting against Burnley.

(Aside from no goals, there is little chance of a clean sheet either)

Jose Mourinho has to be the most sensitive, ornery guy in all of sports. He makes Bill Belichick look like Mr. Congeniality

Jose throwing players under the bus, it took longer than I thought it would. Club record signing with some fresh tire marks after the post game chat on NBCSN.

Your favorite USL team, the Phoenix Rising, open up at home tonight (not dollar beer night) against Portland Timbers II. Watching former star for the Rising, Adam Jahn, signed away by Atlanta United in the offseason  do what he can to replace Josef Martinez on ESPN+ before the main event.

This tiny Billy Gilmour kid can flat out play.

He has not yet been capped by Scotland.  They should cap him immediately and start building the entire team around him.  He is going to be more important to Scotland than Reyna may be to the US.

He was fantastic again today.  Based on this recent interview, I don't think there's much risk of him playing for England, but I agree they should cap him now.
