⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (4 Viewers)

posted in the wrong thread as I was incredulous.

How unlikely is it to pull this off in succession?

miss WC - win Euro's - miss WC
Really just goes to show that there is a TON of luck in short tournaments.  Even 10-12 games and anything can happen.  We build narratives around everything, but it's a lot of luck.

To me it looks like he may have retreated too far. Still, he has time to take a half-step before diving and probably should get there. Shot doesn't look particularly curved from that angle so not sure why the reaction is so slow.
Not just too far, he's basically just ending his backpedal when the ball is struck.  And it looks like maybe planting to stop his retreat made him a half-beat late getting down for the shot.

I don't think anyone on Italy was prepared for North Macedonia to win the knockdown and get a shot off from there so quickly.

anybody notice Italian fans doing the "ooooooooooooo....something something something" chant on goal kicks? I assume it was more interesting and less gross than the MEx version.

This is one of those times I am glad I don't speak the language of my fore fathers, it must be a total blood bath right now

Whenever you think USMNT twitter is unbearable, try Italian Twitter on a day like today

italy beat nm up and down the pitch today, but had no closers.  they have 2 striker injuries and it showed.  i don’t get mancini’s subs either.  and i don’t understand what donnarumma was doing on the goal, he was backtracking into the net as nm was approaching.  just terrible all around.

Pretty mental game at Wrexham today, second in the conference playing Dover, bottom with only one win all season and still not at zero points due to points deductions. Dover somehow score five unanswered goals to overturn Wrexham's 2-0 lead. And still lose.

you didn't mention 2 goals to go from 4-5 to 6-5... in ET- including the winner in the 7th minute of ET!

I started misreading your post "mental" as "psychological...tactical"... not the "insane" it was obviously intended to be.

NZ just might get past Solomon Islands. 4-0 in the 80th.

Newcastle United forward Chris Wood with a goal. Portland Timbers MF Bill Tuilloma with 2.

I mean, Chris Wood isn't exactly Jazz or Ballet... but the US could use a guy like that to knock in goals and teeth.

Ericsen with the go-ahead tap-in ... brentford strikes back with 2 after Rudiger's thunderbolt.

I'm for Chels here so they secure CL... but just love seeing Ericsen playing and especially scoring.

and a third for Brentford.

chels getting ripped apart.... because no CP.

Hmm, I can't remember ever seeing this in a pro game as subs are usually so one for one.

Bayern Munich played with 12 men on the pitch for a short time until some one realized the mistake.

Chelsea dropping points to open up a race for 3rd...
Arsenal dropping points (or look to right now vs Palace)....

And United can not effing beat Leicester or anyone else for that matter to stay in the race for top 4.  With Everton and Norwich up next, well who knows.  Liverpool and Arsenal follow.

Just heard on the City pregame show that at in the second half of the United/Atltico game, the ball was in play for a little over 11 minutes.

That seems absurd if true. happy City drew these guys, should be a frustrating game to watch.

Mane, Mo and Diaz against Vertonghen and Oatamendi.  :drive:

#nowhammy

Me, 9th minute:  I don't remember the last time a team looked like they wanted to run and gun with Liverpool.  There's so much space out there.  I bet this doesn't end well for them.

Konate is ridiculous, and only 22yo. He needs every bit of his pace because Nunez and Silva have some wheels, too.
