FWIW, 538 shifted the odds from 65/35 City before the game to 67/33 after the draw.  So really didn't change things much.

And they're effectively tied at 1-2 in the world power rankings now as well -- just ahead of Bayern in 3rd.
Pretty obvious that these 2 are the best in the world now.  I still wouldn't want to be either of them and face Real in a CL final because those #######s own that game.

Just get rid of offside altogether if four guys can line up two yards directly behind each defender during the run of play.

Indeed. If they're not considered interfering with play then it makes a joke of the offside rule as is, which was really meant for spots where someone's way out of where the play is actually taking place, not where a cross is going right past four of them. We had a goal disallowed recently for much less.

Arguable that VAR cost Liverpool with City's first goal as well. We saw no replays, but at the time it looked like the ball to whoever fed Sterling for that comical miss immediately before KdB scored was offside. If not, it was certainly one of those close ones where the lino will keep his flag down and let play on and let VAR decide afterwards, rather than making a decision (as an aside, it is surely a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured as a result of a lino keeping their flag down in a spot where they know it's almost certainly offside, but hey, VAR it later, what could go wrong, right?). If he DID think it was off, he should have put the flag up at the point where Allison saved and Liverpool regained possession. As is, it immediately leads to the free kick which KdB scored from. Of course, he could actually have been on and I have previous for getting a lot of in real time offside calls wrong, but as there were no replays it's impossible to tell.

On behalf of my fellow posters in the soccer threads, please don't encourage me.

Is that Guzan in goal?  Haven't seen a handball called on a Keeper like that since Guzan.....

Although the ref I had last Wed night would have been ok with the keeper going another couple yards before dropping it.
that's what Andy was referencing by giving me a shout out.

we were talking about getting concacaffed by refs during WCQ... I brought that one up- still, at least until that new link, the only time I've ever seen a GK called for that. just as mindbottling as the phantom handball called on GGGGGG vs CR.

and getting back to that link... dammit. they'll be checking back for regulation jersey and sock formalities next after every goal.

I'm all for VAR to review a goal or a red... but scanning back to the origin of the play to make sure every single second of the build up was ok? #### that. either the ref does his job or get rid of the ref entirely. that team got hosed.

ahhhhhhhhhhh makes sense now.

That's been my complaint too.  They are using it to legislate the game and finding ways to call off goals instead of helping on blatant errors.  His knee is offside, there was a foul 30 passes before the goal, Ref gave a corner instead of a goal kick and now its a goal.  Oh wait, that last one they can't review...

and apparently, goal scorer Lewandoski lucky to have stayed on the field after not getting a second yellow for a play he had just gotten a yellow for earlier.
