lookin' DRY today ...

Saratoga Early $1 P5 (races 1-5)

1,5,6/1,2,5/1,2,6,12/2/1,2,5

$54

everybody is gonna cover the #2 (In Italian) for race 4 ... rightfully so, it's free parking.

had to single somewhere in this sequence, so this basically boils down to a P4 - loaded up, so let's see ...
GL bud. For some reason I agreed to play in a golf tournament this afternoon , on a 90 degree day 🙄
Hoping to be home in time to catch the last couple

I’m on Big Everest in the 9th

@otb_lifer

Race 3 is money back special

#7 Heavenly Appointed

I watched her only replay, had a real nice middle move to my eye , may have beat the big fave if she hadn’t been bumped pretty hard in the stretch. No idea what she faced….msw.
Motion bringing her to the Spa from Delaware and getting Johnny V. Steady works since her only race in may

8-1 ml

good lookin' out, but i left her uncovered in my spread, as she's jumping up 100k in class - she needs a knockaround szning up here, methinks - so, we know how this is gonna end 😁

$10 saver bet on it will cover my P5 outlay - gotta hedge, damnit.

#12 SCRATCHED FOR RACE 3, so i slide in your #7

WE GOODT 🚀

first 2 legs in, short prices ... thought that chalk in the first would be softened by the 5 ... he was, but just outclassed the rest.

need some bingo here in the third before the Diana - that #7 would be sweet.

🐎

btw, Frank Mirahmadi is f****** awful ... dull as f***, always sounds outta breath - real drag on the meet - can't believe they couldn't get better.

and fon't gimme Colmus, either ... he's as exciting as watching grass grow.

gotta toss a yuuuge knock at the Spa for yesterday's Diana fiasco ...

i had railed on the early Cali KD prep szn for not attracting full fields, and basically ceding purses to Bobbo - whose horses could NOT earn any points, as per his suspension - their first two preps drew 9 horses combined, 8 of which were in the Bobbo barn - effin' joke.

this past Friday saw some wet stuff at the Spa - always the lone drawback to this meet - it's prime rainy szn upstate, nuttin' ya can do about that, and, as i lamented 2 days ago, the scratches whittled the fields down to 3 or 4 entrants, with one race basically a match affair with 2 runners - but, again, i get why we see all them pulled when the weather blows.

... but yesterday was fine, weather-wise, but yet the Diana, the first Saturday Stakes race of their '23 meet, only drew 5 entrants, and this were before any threat of weather, etc ... they could only find 5 f****** horses to go? FOUR TRAINED BY BROWN??!?

horrible.

unacceptable.

a joke.

the only barn that weren't scared of In Italian were the barn (Brown) who trains her? i think Motion had the 5th horse, but 80% of the field were Chad's charges.

ducking? really, fellas?

and she lost, too (to another Brown horse) ... purse coin are given out to the also-rans, as well - but nobody wanted to cash a check?

what compounds all this is that fat fudge Mirimahdi on the calls ... i'd rather eat cat s*** with a knittin' needle.

GET IT TOGETHER UP THERE.

Agree - if we can't get full fields at Del Mar or Saratoga it's over.

Stronach is closing Golden Gate Fields for good ... it's over up in NorCal, 'cept for the Fair circuit.

:sadbanana:
Ugh wtf

they do couch it as being a move to shore up Santa Anita - but the GG meet are synth, and ya had some real low-level claimers going ... can't see S.A. race secretary all of a sudden carding nickel claimers for half the card - i mean, the surface switch are negligible, i guess - but the horse flesh for the most part are more akin to what gets peddled at Los Al on the reg, not the "great race place"

adapt or die? they could use some help supplementing their fields, but this ain't really the way -

tl;dr - Stronach full of horse hockey

I hear concerns of Mage coming off a layoff, but no concerns about AK not racing since January?

this Oceanport surface on Haskell Day are perfect for AK's style ... closest thing to Santa Anita on the East Coast in that respect - sure, the layoff are a concern, as are hustling out the 8 hole in an 8 horse field ... but that horse was not gonna win the Jim Dandy, Bobbo picked the right Stakes to jump back in to.

speaking of the Jim Dandy, we have Forte/AOE/Disarm/Hit Show thus far ... Belmont winner Arcy sitting it out - think the connections of Mage feel the Haskell are easier pickins - tho they are citing the extra week of rest afforded them for the Travers (which will be 5 weeks rest, as opposed to 4 coming out the JD, which is next weekend).

i'm not saying Mage has no shot, but i'm betting against for this one.

2 views here. Fan and a bettor. Fan in me is OK with a top notch 6 horse field. Even if all are between 8-5 and 9/2. Bettor in me is not. I want 10-12 horse fields and am OK if a lot of them are cheaper races with a few good ones mixed in. Some good horses up at GG, including on the sod. Many compete when they ship here

re-upped with capping buddy, were out at the Meadowlands all thru the day/night ... that Del Mar card were tough, we had a decent Spa finish, and hit a coupla decent #s from DM, but mostly comparing notes and tryn'a get a feel for the surf n' turf.

btw, saw a harness pacer go out in a 25.2 opening qtr last night :jawdrop:

that's, like, standard fare for some of the t-breds at Finger Lakes/Delaware

- just an insanely souped up surface for the big Pace ... that bike were flying, man ... speed!

Papa Mandella goes back east to bring more hardware back to SoCal (speaking in general terms, as in the amount of trainers/horses who've continued to demonstrate excellence from the small circuit there). Ho-hum. O'Neil, Baffert (not one, but TWO Triple Crowns, which is insane). Hell, throw Shirreffs in there (a great horseman) and the phenomenal Zenyatta (19 of 20 won't be happening again). And really, Mike Smith would be the first to say not going 20 for 20 was his fault, no question.

Oh, and the best horse to run since Secretariat, FLIGHTLINE. Actually, there's an argument that Sadler could top the list.

Anyway, super impressive race by Geaux Rocket Ride, shipping back east and taking down Mage (and some highly regarded others) in only his 4th start. To Mage's credit, he ran his eyeballs out and was probably 90%, but even then, I don't think his best is better than GRR, as the division takes shape. Good stuff.

Looking forward to the Breeder's Cup at Santa Anita. Might have to make the trip this year. That backdrop alone is worth it. Majestic.

Wow, Rocket Ride stopped the clock about 1/2 second faster than older Stakes horses did earlier in the day. So he not only got headed by Derby winner Mage, and came back on to put that one away, his final time more than holds up. As most of you know, that's @ 2 to 3 lengths faster than some proven, older horses. Yes, pace, time of day, conditions etc. can affect some of that but nothing major on this day.

That was an impressive 4th start, no question. The Beyer, which I am not a fan of for the most part, will come back pretty high on this race, for those that care. Legit racehorse.
