2011 Broncos Training Camp Observations (1 Viewer)

Cecil I had a Grandpa who was 74 and died from Melanoma Cancer. Scary stuff. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife. Keep up the good work when you can get to it. Family first and foremost always. Then Football if we can. Good luck. And if you wife is as fiesty as I know you are, then she will beat that cancer and recover just fine. ;)

Hey Cecil, I know you can't comment too much on specific formations, but how are the Broncos using Miller so far? Have they been lining him up at SLB? Has he been rushing on most downs, or has he been splitting between rushing and playing LB? If they're rushing him a lot, does that mean lots of zone blitzes? Do you think he and Dumervil are going to live up to their potential as one of the scariest pass-rushing tandems in the league?

It's been a long, long, long time since Denver's had a top-10 draft pick (20 years since the last 1, only 2 total in the last 38 years). In fact, you could make a serious argument that the last time Denver had a rookie prospect anywhere near this level was back in 1983 when they traded Hinton for Elway. I'm mostly curious whether Miller will prove himself worth the wait.

I did take my wife and my 2 little girls to the practice at Invesco yesterday and it just reminded me why I hate going to games in person.

I wish I had more observations, but between my daughters having to go to the bathroom multiple times or wanting to go to the food stand, this "free" pratice probably cost me $90.00 between beer and food. We sat on the end of the aisle, so I spent the other half of the practice having to get up and let people out. And, not to sound like a complete whiner, but the group of guys sitting behind us seemed to have been struck dumb and they only could say one word, which began with F and ended with K. I mean, come on guys.

What I can report is yesterday was the scrimmage. It started with the 1st team offense vs 2nd string defense. Orton was crisp and his throws were right on, but both drives were a repeat of last year: Drive the field, stall in the red zone and settle for 3. That happened on both his drives. Tebow came out with the 2nd string offense vs the 1st string defense to thunderous applause and he looked bad--really, really bad. His delivery took forever--almost like it has regressed a bit. He lacked that little stop watch in his head which tells you to get rid of the ball or do something and he was sacked twice. He underthrew a receiver on a 5 yard dump pass. His drives produced nothing and he was booed about as loudly as was cheered when he left.

As far as other players. Royal looked fast and I think he could have a big year. Moreno spent every single minute of practice dancing. I mean every minute between plays, the man is dancing. I wish he would show half those moves on the field during the game. As far as others, the action took place so much on the south end (due to Tebow's failed drives) and my numerous interuptions, I can't say anyone else stood out. Sorry I can't be more help.

I was glad we went so my girls could see the stadium and feel the rumble when people start stamping their feet, but give me my big screen and recliner any day.

Hi guys.

Have McGahee started to practice and if so, How does he look?

I know Cecil thought he would overtake Moreno when he got signed, and since I'm a McGahee owner

I'd really like to know.

going to see McGahee again today, but here's my post from the last practice I saw him at:McGahee runs behind his pads and wins collisions, plenty left in the tank and I feel he should be the #broncos lead back, w/Moreno as COPMcGahee also understands the zone system very well, did a nice spin against the grain to find cutback lane, get to 2nd levelWhen McGahee gets contact he's not swallowed up, rather he gets to grinding and pushing the pile, can run through multiple arm tacklesconfidence is so important for a runner and McGahee runs with authority, knows where to go, and knows how to move to get thereGot to see McGahee for the first time in practice and he did not disappoint

They're bringing along Irving at his own pace. needs to bulk up but has the instincts and football intelligence to be in on every play. knows how to scrape and flow, plus has the athleticism to get there. Mays not giving up without a fight. Another INT today in coverage. He'll stay with a guy short, but any route over 10 yards and Mays is toast.
 
Day 12 notes here:

In summation, don't read too much into the first depth chart of the preseason - things change pretty quick around here

The depth chart is a Work In Progress and the preseason games will help these players determine their fortune

I still believe #broncos may try to squeeze Virgil Green thru to Practice Squad, it's a mistake as someone will snag him

Richard Quinn could also be out, blocking TEs who can't block are not long for this league

Rosario may be odd man out here, he's made some plays (1handed grab) but not getting a ton of looks cause lack of separation

Daniel Fells has consistent hands, strong concentration, can play FB and block, I say he's safe

Dan Gronkowski is a decent 2 way TE, plus he can (and did) play a little FB - I think he's safe on roster

Green can be a smooth receiver, I've seen it on tape, but in person he lets too many passes in to his body, thinks about RAC too much

so far Virgil Green has been a disappointment to me, expected more from the rookie (not as a blocker, he's always been bad)

better than Virgil Green who failed to even get his hands on a guy (again) on a run where McGahee got to 2nd level, VGs guy tackled Willis

Other times he was getting his hands on guys but clearly doesn't have technique down as a blocker, effort guy but a Work In Progress



Orange Julius did blast open a cutback lane for McGahee as in line TE, McGahee saw it and cut there quick



I don't see any other TEs here even capable of making that type of play, Daniel Fells?!?! #please

Orange Julius had a high twisting catch, think Kellen Winslow Jr back at Mia vs Va Tech in 4th quarter - leaps, spins, catches, secures

Julius Thomas continued to play in line, and was put in motion, creates so many mismatches and is teams best move TE IMHO

curious move by the team as many TEs lined up in the backfield as FBs today - even Orange Julius, weird to see him back there

David Anderson working as a returner, plus tough receiver over the middle, I feel he should make the team.

Eric Decker barely made it into the notebook today, as did Eddie Royal, more of the same from both - Eddie w/speed out routes, ED ovr middle



had a pass bounce off his chest, falling to ground (pretty much on his butt) he was able to gather the catch as defenders swooped in

was toying with rookie S Rahim Moore, getting open deep for big TD catch from Orton, split middle of defense for six

ready for some $$$Lloyd, gonna have to add another dollar sign the way he's playing!

final defensive point, Jeremy Jarmon continues to get penetration *gasp* in the middle of the OLine - 2 'sacks' at least today

Joe Mays picked off Brady Quinn during 2-minute drill at the end of practice, was covering on short route to Julius, great anticipation



Ty Warren is huge, like insanely huge, makes other DTs look like juco players, playing quick off the snap too

saw Von get after the QB, stuff the run, and even work well in coverage today - nice all around game!

Not only is Miller fast but he has a quick first step and does a good job of anticipating the snap, Orton has to be happy Von can't hit him

couple of quick defensive notes before I go to WR/TEs - Von Miller is everywhere! his speed might be the best of any pass rusher in #nfl

JJ then did a nice job of quickly jumping over trash at the LOS, didn't sky but a quick hop then continued his run, guys agility is gr8

JJs next run not so nice as Braxton Kelley met him in the hole and stopped him in his tracks



JJ had a nice bounce run where he baited (toying w/D again) into over committing inside, bounced outside for big run down sidelines

as @PostBroncos says - Jeremiah Johnson is my boy! Love the way this kid runs and hope he shows what he can do in preseason games

back to Brandon Minor... had a good stutter step to create space on 1 run, other run a jump cut cost him yards and ball was stripped

saw Lance Ball try to sky over the pile (not even at the GL) like Sweetness, vertical not there and good way to get hurt

when the hole is clogged he needs to be a battering ram, going to the edge just loses yards

Ball still tries to bounce too much outside, can someone please tell him that's not his game? would rather see him lower his head & grind

Lance Ball was inconsistent today, one run he was cutting back against the grain to get to 2nd level, next run stuffed

Brandon Minor made a few good plays again, including 1 catch on a wheel route where he spun, caught, and continued running in stride



power and leg drive is there, vision, instincts and body control all look sharp too - he seems motivated to prove he still has 'it'

McGahee will stay low at the LOS and keeps his legs churning after initial contact, very crisp cuts when he changes direction

He was getting to the 2nd level consistently and running through arm tackles once there

Willis McGahee had a very strong day as a runner, and simply understands how to run in a zone system better than Moreno

one more note on LenDale White, he did look quicker today, running with more urgency when he got a chance



There was one point during practice where Moreno seemed a little cramped up, he was sitting, stretching his right thigh and rubbing it

that 'move' reminded me of the ballerina on top of my daughter's jewelry box - idea was right, execution was :puke:



saw Moreno try to get elusive with a spin move, but instead of spinning against the grain he pirouetted in 1 spot & was swallowed up

Moreno did a good job of hitting the hole hard, but does not show ability to run thru arm tackles, lack of leg drive means little YAcontact

Moreno's best carry saw him bounce out, then bounce in, jump cutting to daylight, 2nd level was stopped though

most of Moreno's good runs net about 7 yards, and he's not having a ton of those, most of the time he dances behind line and is stuffed

Moreno had the 1 drop I described earlier but overall had a very good day catching the football. snatching passes w/arms extended away

on to the RBs, today saw the return of LenDale White to the practice field, didn't do much but actually had a nice play on a screen pass!

Orange Julius told me at Combine that he could jump over Kia and dunk - kid has hops and still couldn't reach errant Tebow pass

final note on Tebow, just like Sat scrimmage had Orange Julius wide open down sideline and pass was over his head by about 12 feet!



quick side note, watching Pinstripe Bowl Syracuse v KState right now, Daniel Thomas & Delone Carter put on a show - lots of love 4 both

several of Tebow's passes ended up short today, guys like Virgil Green wide open on swing route T2 puts it in the dirt

the aiming takes extra time, makes his motion SUPER deliberate, and allows the defense to jump the route

Playing when you're afraid to make a mistake results in one not making any plays as a passer, T2 aiming the ball instead of just throwing it

In the pocket it's a different story, unlike Quinn T2 is NOT trusting himself and is playing like he's afraid to make a mistake

as I've always said w/QBs arm strength is overrated, but you have to spin it nicely, some struggle on the run but T2 looked good doing that

He did look good running the bootleg to his left, threw on the run & hit Orange Julius on a drag route, pass was tight w/good velocity

now to #tebow - another up and down day, with most plays on the down side, kid is still holding onto ball too long

Quinn zipped a pass in between 2 defenders today that was dropped by Knowshon - I think he was surprised BQ squeezed it in there

Quinn is trusting what he sees on the field and it's resulting in bigger plays, defense not thinking 'easy out' w/BQ under center anymore

Quinn didn't play pissed, but continued to look more comfortable and put in a strong showing for himself

Brady Quinn put in another good performance today, some comments from media on sideline included 'I bet Brady is pissed' (4 being 3rd on DC)

Again, defense can't sack him but you felt a sense of comfort and confidence coming from Orton, let's see it in a game 1st b4 we're excited

Orton also stayed away from just locking onto $$$ Lloyd. It was the first time in camp he didn't force it to him, made secondary reads

let's start with the QB position - Kyle Orton continued his strong performance, going thru progressions quickly and making good decisions

Of course surprised by Orange Julius listing but no doubt it will be very different by start of regular season

as far as depth charts are concerned I was surprised Brady Quinn was not the 2nd QB listed as he's looked better than #tebow in practice

RB pecking order goes like this:Moreno/McGahee splitting 1st team repsBall after that, some 1st team but not muchMinor, JJ, White after that with 2nd team, White just got back from 'little back spasms' today.

Do you really expect Ball to remain there? As he looked good or is everyone behind him that bad?

every day JJ looks better, but not getting the reps with the 1s that Ball is. Preseason games could change that. Ball's skill set is pretty average. Hard nosed guy, low center of gravity, but not overly quick, fast, or elusive.
 
Is Wesley Woodyard looking like a starter? I think he is undersized, but I noticed fantasy wise when he starts he makes a lot of tackles.

So excited to see this guy play. As I said, Denver really hasn't had a prospect anywhere near this highly anticipated since the media was breathlessly reporting what rookie John Elway was eating for breakfast. I especially love the fact that the year we finally got a top-10 draft pick was also the year they finally changed the salary structure for top-10 draft picks. :)

slight swelling in knee, left practice session a little early. Foxy not worried, a non-issue at this point. Richard Quinn knee sprain could be issue, but no word on severity now.
 
day 13 notes here:

final point of the night: Daniel Fells looks strong as blocker, caught TD pass from Orton too - 2TE sets will feature he & JT I believe

being raw can sometimes be beneficial because there's no bad habits or preconceived notions, JT caught TD pass from Orton today



Orange Julius is such a good listener, really takes to coaching well, will get a tip then immediately implements it to his game

I went to Orange Julius tonight and couldn't stop thinking about Julius Thomas!

towards the end of practice he did get a good seal block, but that's a very simple task, give him credit for getting his man though

Vickerson took the pop, stayed upright, found the ball carrier (white) and made the tackle - stay with it Virgil!

Green did have a nice crackback block on Kevin Vickerson, however after Green blindsided him he didn't stay with it

speaking of missing blocks, on to Virgil Green! still reaching, not using his frame to square up defenders as a blocker

I give him credit for staying in after getting twisted up, but next play he missed his block cause he couldn't get to defender

on to TEs - Richard Quinn sprained his knee, no word on severity, he stayed in after it happened for a play or two

Anderson never going to be big play threat but can work short and underneath routes, knows how to find soft spots in a zone



As I tweeted earlier David Anderson just gets open and catches everything, that equals a QBs best friend right there!

Britt Davis showed good hops to go with his size, still a longshot to make final roster though

Matthew Willis had a good day showing ability to catch out of reach passes by extra burst when ball comes in

no Eddie meant more of Decker, commented on poor route earlier, ED also inconsistent catching the football, seems frustrated at times

$$$Lloyd makes it look so easy, a treat to watch him every day in practice, tip toe TD catches, insane body control, twisting catches

before I get to WRs just a note that Eddie Royal sat out today's practice for precautionary reasons



JJ lane was blocked caught in backfield, he bounced to 0 gap, drew in LB, then BOUNCED to 8 hole & picked up 5yds - best 5yd run in practice

rinse/repeat on earlier reports from JJ, his best play of the day came when he turned a loss of 8yds into a 5yd gain

Johnson is unlikely to crack the starting lineup unless injuries hit in front of him on the depth chart, can be valuable backup IMHO

saving the best for last here: Jeremiah Johnson, guy just needs to stay healthy and he could play his way into a role here

Minor did a good job today of picking and choosing his holes/cutbacks and displayed good footwork

saw a couple of nice things from Brandon Minor today, can stop/start effectively and doesn't lose much momentum when he does it

Ball jumped (again) but it wasn't to sky over pile like yesterday, instead he hopped over trash at LOS turned neg into positive play

Lance Ball started out cold, but got better as the day went on - swallowed up on early runs, still runs low w/good leg drive though

White continues to show good footwork (not a surprise) and has a good understanding of where holes are going to be in this offense

LenDale White ran better today, pressed 2 hole one step cutback led to 20yd gain up the middle got to top 'speed' quickly

quick note on CJ Gable, showed crisp cuts and good change of direction skills, better in open field not determined inside runner

Oops! missed a note on Lightness... when trying to hide behind linemen waiting for cutback DOOM sniffed him out, loss of 2 on play

McGahee ran strong again and looks to be the best pure runner on this team, nice blend of size/power/speed - bigger runs than Lightness (27)

great runners know how to 'set up' or 'toy' with the defense - McGahee understands what he needs to do in order to be effective in 2nd level

Willis first run was a big cutback for 30yd TD, he pressed the hole, wiggled (to freeze D) then cutback to wide open lane...6 points

Wanna know how bad Woodyard is in coverage? McGahee easily got open versus him on out route, Willis gr8 runner, avg receiver

final point on Moreno, outside runs have to stay outside, can't run the stretch because of lack of suddenness

wanna know how bad DJ Williams is in coverage? Moreno slipped *gasp* on route, still got open against DJ caught pass for 10yd gain

If the play is designed to go outside then Moreno can get you 5yds, but if he has to bounce from clogged hole it's a loss of yards

That's a bad combination for a guy playing in a zone system, he's too hesitant, will run right into back of OL then bounce outside 2 nothing

Anyway, back to Moreno -- he was hitting the hole hard, when it's there, cannot gather himself and change direction quickly

McGahee's lack of carries says to me 'fresh legs' not 'guy can't carry heavy load' - can some please get a #realitycheck ????



It's ####ing ridiculous to use that argument! McGahee was never going to play in front of Ray Rice when the kid was ready

for those who say McGahee can't carry 220+ times because 'he hasn't done it in 3 yrs' I say this: HE WAS BACKING UP RAY RICE 1 of the best!

Once again Moreno was completely outplayed by Willis McGahee

In my opinion, part of getting the most out of this team will mean making Knowshon Moreno the backup/change of pace RB

As I've said many times on @TheTicketDenver - @johnelway cares 4 u #broncos fans, he loves u and will do his best to make this tm gr8 again

b4 I get to RBs, I just want to say how nice it is to see @johnelway on the sidelines monitoring practice every day

At first I was like 'tsk, tsk' then saw what Quinn did after he reset and I was like 'nice!' - Brady Quinn's play continues to refresh

The double clutch from Brady Quinn was reminiscent of #steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, motion almost thru, holds up, redirects then fires

Again, trusting what he sees/feels - using his knowledge/instincts, not acting like a robot

Quinn did double clutch a pass, something that is usually a no-no -- however, he saw Anderson come free on a diff route and changed his mind

Quinn is firing in a good rhythm most of the time, he liked finding David Anderson who manages to ALWAYS be open

Brady Quinn continues to look impressive, but like Orton I want to see him do it in a game - the confidence needs to carry over

Tebow was bootlegging, something that plays to his strength, however he couldn't outrun DOOM who 'sacked' him coming from other side

Tebow's bark can draw defense offsides, however on a scramble he got careless with the football, fumble lost and frustration mounts



If Tebow can read the defense better before the ball is snapped it will help his anticipation, help him 'see' the field better

I want to see Tebow read progressions quickly, hit back step on drop and fire, presnap reads also need improvement



listen, talk about Tebow's throwing motion if ####ed out - he's never going to have a clean motion - his biggest hurdle is mental side of gm

when he's waiting for route to come over he should at least look off, not just stare at a guy running a long developing route

Tebow struggled again today, locked onto Orange Julius thru ENTIRE route, got it picked off

rinse, repeat for Orton in practice - looks good when he can't get hit, not much to add, just waiting to see him handle pressure in a game

some wondered aloud after Bailey pick if the cheers were for the vet CB or were they for Orton looking bad

Orton's recent comments about pleasing the fans last did not sit well with some at practice, heckling for KO continues

body control needs to be precise, even on quicker, shorter routes like inside slants - keep defender away from the ball at all costs

I felt Decker could have helped Orton on that throw by using his frame better to 'box out' Bailey

starting w/QBs - Kyle Orton should know better than to test Champ Bailey, he targeted Eric Decker on slant, CB ducked under & snagged fball

Looking for potential waiver wire additions, cuts are getting close and #broncos may not be done making moves

Brian Xanders said in an interview on @TheTicketDenver that Denver has an 8-man group of scouts that scour the bottom 40 of every team

here's the day 13 notes from #broncos HQ...first off DC Dennis Allen is a great teacher, fantastic tips & insight for vets & younger guys

 
i've got to add, i'm not a bronco's fan. but lammey's coverage on the broncos is top notch. i wish beat writers would follow a similar format. so much easier to track.

henry's training camp update is another great resource... but twitter is the place for the up to the minute practice reports. you can add your favorite beat writer for each team and stay on top of everything happening during every team's practices.

I am curious where you heard that... because I haven't heard anyone suggest that he's done well. I heard about "best shape", "stronger" etc... but that does not mean he can run the rock. Afternoon radio guys by and large agree with Cecil's assessment.Now, it is also being said that the o-line is struggling a bit OR that the d-line is tearing it up. Not sure where the balance is there.

Since I posted this yesterday, some afternoon radio guys that played in the NFL came out and mentioned that Moreno spends waaay too much time on the ground, and needs to be able to take contact and stay up. Mark Schlereth said that slipping, as he does frequently, is not about the turf or cleats, but rather his inability to stay centered. This is almost identical to what Cecil has been saying.

I see that Denver was using two kickers yesterday. One for FGs (Prater) and one for XPs (Hauschka). Is this going to be a regular season thing?

 
Didn't know if we has a specific thread for the Dallas/Denver game, but just a few quick notes from what I observed.

Orton moved the ball, but AGAIN (just like all of last year) no TD and the team settling for a FG. You have 1st and goal at the 2 and you end up with three points. :hot: Tebow made some nice throws, but the scrambling play which netted Denver 3 flags on one play summed up his inexperience and his need to grow at the NFL level before being given the starting QB job.

Willis looked better than Moreno. Moreno just looks to do all he can to avoid contact including (and I had Cecil in mind when he did this) a wonderful 360 degree pirouette that netted two yards before getting tackled. Moreno simply looks like a 3rd down back, but I am not sure McGahee can handle 25+ carries a game. J.Johnson ran strong--straight ahead runner and I am wondering if he might be the goal line RB--should be a nice sleeper to grab.

B.Lloyd was targeted once on a overthrow from Orton on the ill-fated goal line drive. David Anderson made some tough catches last night but twice his QBs put him in situations that almost got him killed. He is a big guy, but man, did Tebow and Quinn lead him right into the DB and Safety. Eric Riley's TD was an amazing catch at the back of the endzone and he looked sharp. Julius Thomas only play of note last night was missing a blocking assignment and getting his QB sacked for those that care.

The defense looked much improved. Fast, fast, fast, but it seemed Dallas adapted to this by rolling the pocket. They are going to have some hard decisions to make as far as depth players (especially at LB) as they are pretty deep.

Overall a very sloppy, flag-filled game and I don't know how much Coach Fox can take from it.

McGahee makes the perfect RB to draft late. However, that ADP will be coming up the more we see in preseason. Week 3 will tell us what kind of split we're looking at for carries.

I expect McGahee to lead the team in carries, while Moreno will lead the team in receptions. Carries should be split fairly evenly if both can stay healthy. McGahee will serve as team's primary GL back, but of course Tebow will play a role near the EZ if he's not the starter.

McGahee 180-200 carries, Moreno 150-180 carries - could end up looking a lot like 2005 Panthers with DeShaun Foster and Stephen Davis http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2005.htm

 
Saturday practice notes are here, no practice today, but I will be back out at Dove Valley tomorrow!

All the TEs the #broncos keep will be moved in-line, motion, and to the backfield, it's what Foxy does, good blocking a must

Green also must learn to at least be an effort blocker, he doesn't 'get it' when it comes to blocking, gets frustrated when asked to block

If I had any advice to give Virgil Green it would be CALM DOWN - he's so worried about run after the catch that he doesn't look in passes

back of the end zone Green dragging along line, pass comes in high and behind, VG skies/twists brings it in w/2 feet down

heads were nodding as the kid kept dropping passes on the numbers, however he did draw 'oohs & aaahs' from the crowd on TD catch

I was talking with other media members about VGreen and said he's money on difficult catches and will drop too many easy ones

speaking of big play in the end zone Virgil Green made a nice play on Saturday

Champ Bailey did get his (again) on tipped pass in the end zone where he skied over everybody else to get it

Julius Thomas had great play on quick in route where Champ SMACKED into him, Bailey a little stunned that rookie held onto ball/didn't fall

Orange Julius needs work on blocking technique, I believe that will come with time, guys played in only a small handful of games

now on to the TEs - Fells and Orange Julius on field together sometimes, JT MUST learn how to block in a Foxy system, he's an effort guy

Decker caught some quick slants and was better getting off the line today without being put in motion, finds soft spot in zone too



Decker didn't have the dropsies today, although he did let a pass hit the dirt that was a shade behind him - needs to grab that

D'Andre Goodwin was running with the 1s in 3WR sets -- that ain't good

with the injuries to Eddie Royal, Demaryius Thomas, Mark Dell, Britt Davis the WR corps is getting thin



LOVED seeing $$$ Lloyd downfield blocking for McGahee on one of his big runs, guy is amazing WR and unselfish blocker, what effort!

high passes, no problem, low passes, no problem, corner of the endzone, no problem, 2 feet inbounds on sideline, no problem!

moving to WRs - $$$ Lloyd is unreal, the twists/turns he makes to catch a pass look like McFarlane Spiderman from back in the day

Jeremiah showing burst, acceleration and ability to cut without losing much speed, ran stretch play really well



Jeremiah getting rave reviews (finally) from other media members on the sideline, guys saying "I love him" - Fox Force Five baby 'catchup'

talked to my guy Jeremiah Johnson after practice, very humble and gracious with his time, good head on his shoulders, smart football plyr

Brandon Minor ran with some 'pop' and had more pep in his step on Saturday, CJ Gable showed good lateral quickness, inside/out runner

speaking of screens, one more Moreno note - showed good burst on screen pass that went for 20 yards, again NO PROBLEM with him as a receiver

McGahee's best day as a receiver too - knows how to sit down in a zone, come back to football in flight, crisp cuts on screens



I also like the way McGahee just wins collisions - guy hammers defenders, uses pads well as striking objects...BRUTAL

McGahee made several great cuts, knows EXACTLY where to be, anticipates where cutback lane is and does not GUESS



Willis McGahee just understands how to run better in the zone system than any other back here, his experience w/Studesville is showing

Saw Ball twice press the hole, get the D to commit then bounce outside for 10+ yard runs, good balance too



It was even noted by the great Pat Kirwan, who was out at #broncos training camp - Ball can jump cut better than Moreno

As @JoshBDraft says 'BALLIN' .. that's what Lance Ball was doing, a very good day of practice from him too

I liked the way Moreno was picking & choosing his lanes, not trying to do everything on every carry - very important to take what D gives u

However, if he guesses wrong he doesn't have the skill set to bail himself out of trouble, gets swallowed up/knocked down easily

Moreno's 'big' runs are still only 7-10 yards but he had crisper cuts in practice, more sure of where cutback lane would be

Knowshon Moreno looked good, yes GOOD running the ball Saturday, his best day of practice by far

speaking of jump pass, does anyone think #tebow is just a big Doug Flutie?? Think about it, comparison is closer than some think

THE JUMP PASS IS SPREADING...LOL, saw Adam Weber jump pass one to Jamel Hamler

Brady Quinn had another strong performance, guy is the surest thing each day at practice, quick passes, downfield too, aggressive w/ball

#tebow velocity, arm strength, setup, footwork look good - improved for sure...needs better presnap reads, quicker timing

I like the way the ball was coming out of his hands, WHEN it comes out is a different story

Timmy went back to looking mortal because it's practice, was late on screen pass to LWhite got play busted up

Any time he would try to move/bootleg/scramble it seemed like DOOM sniffed him out, not fleet afoot as we all know

starting with QBs Kyle Orton was the one holding onto the ball too long Saturday! double clutching the football and not throwing on time

Von did show more 'controlled violence' in practice on Saturday, did a nice job of timing blitzes, not jumping snap count

one quick note on Von Miller, guy is crazy athletic but needs control, was flying/slipping all over field in Dallas



It read 'Durability is more important than Ability' - Too true, guys have to stay healthy and impress, always someone ready to take ur spot

back on the injury tip, good friend Chad Brown (and fellow Highlands Ranch Mtn Lions coach) was talking to me about a sign in LR at NE

Some speculated he got 'benched' for missed block on Tebow sack, not true, he did have nice blocks on every other play

No worries though, Orange Julius was running with the 1s during 9-on-7 and 11-on-11s

Walkthrough portion of practice first- JTsuperstar80 was running with the 2s, while Fells, Rosario, & Gronk got to go with the 1s

Eddie Royal was looking incredible, hope the team is just being safe with him and giving him time for the hip to rest

Hopefully Eddie Royal can come back soon, it's his OTHER hip which is kind of a concern, hope he didn't overcompensate & hurt it bad

First off, sucks about Mark Dell...guy was making plays every practice, hopefully he can bounce back next year

Q... is there any indication that the coaching staff is as high on J Johnson as you and the other observers? Seemed like he was the last back into the game over the weekend and I can't think of a single quote or media reference that suggests the staff is especially happy with Johnson.

 
So who is the TE to own from Denver for re-draft purposes, Orange Julius? What can we expect from him this season? Is he a potential TE1, TE2 or undraftable?

I really appreciate this post. Was actually going to stop posting my cut and paste Twitter stuff in here because 1) it takes time I really don't have right now and 2) was sick of hearing how much the format sucks. I wish I had the time to write reports like I used to, but I'm doing radio/tv spots from Hawaii to Jacksonville right now and have an extremely cramped schedule. Twitter lets me get my notes out for people to enjoy!Again, thank you for this.

If you just listen to Darnell Docket it does suck, but reporters give a lot of valuable information. Thanks. I hope they pay you a ton.
