you don't want Garrard . . .Someone in Oakland needs to call David Garrard right now.
You, sir, are an optimist.Campbell is no Dan Fouts, but make no mistake, the QB position just took a BIG hit.If we can win with Jason Campbell, we can win with Kyle Boller. I am still expecting to win the division.

This team just took a major stumble even if we can head into the bye at 5-2. Why not shop for a QB while there's still time?Designed QB draws also. Boller is a pretty good athlete.I don't think the offense changes. Quick passes, QB plays within the offense, lots of runs, play action, and razzle dazzle.
He looked AWFUL. Hopefully it's a practice/timing issue, but there were a lot of horrible horrible passes thrown by boller.Boller looked fairly good making decisions and he's got a stronger arm than Campbell. .
Only if it was Campbell's non throwing shoulder and then that would be optimistic. If you've suffered through broken bones, you realize the effects of a break linger for a long time, some are permanent. He might be able to make it back for the playoffs, that's why the team has a tough decision.4-6 weeks according to this link
I did not want to see this trade happen. I knew Palmer was going to cost too much in order to convince the Bengals to trade him. If we win the Superbowl, I'll be happy though. Raiders going all in on this team.New GM is going to come in with no draft picks to play with. Hmm, maybe that's not so bad. All In BabyWay too much to give up for a washed up, wasn't that good to begin with, QB who now has to learn the players and system halfway into the season. I'd rather have Trent Edwards.
...it would be a disaster. But TWO potential first rounders?
Jesus. You like losing? Capt. Checkdown?'Rich Conway said:Way too much to give up for a washed up, wasn't that good to begin with, QB who now has to learn the players and system halfway into the season. I'd rather have Trent Edwards.
1. With the new CBA implementing a real rookie wage scale, first-round picks are worth more than they were before 2011, especially in the upper reaches of the round. Teams can now acquire blue-chip talent at far lower pay, squatting on them for at least five years. At a time when not many players have been yielding first-round picks via trade, the possibility that the Raiders will give up two of them for Palmer is stunning.2. Even if Palmer stinks and the Raiders otherwise make it to the postseason and win one game, the compensation becomes two first-rounders. It’s unknown whether the Raiders pressed for a trigger based on Palmer’s performance, but given the way he played last year, it would have made sense to get such protection.2. The Broncos may be kicking themselves for sending receiver Brandon Lloyd to the Rams for a sixth-round pick that can become a fifth-round pick. After the Palmer deal, it seems that maybe the Broncos could have done better.3. Or not. The Palmer trade could make it difficult if not impossible to get any more trades accomplished before this year’s deadline, since the team with the player who would be traded will (or at least should) start the talks by pointing out what the Raiders gave up for Palmer.4. Palmer reportedly has said he’ll never again set foot in Paul Brown Stadium. Under the current scheduling formula, he will next year.5. If the Raiders win the AFC West and the Bengals capture a wild-card berth, Cincy could face a no-lose situation in the postseason, if the playoff tree sends Cincinnati to Oakland. Win the game and advance, lose the game and get a second first-round pick.6. As Paul Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area pointed out during PFT Live, Raiders coach Hue Jackson clearly is running the show in Oakland. And he’s taking a big risk that Palmer won’t be worth the price that was paid. Which could eventually limit Jackson’s influence, if Palmer doesn’t deliver.7. As Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer pointed out during PFT Live, the Bengals ultimately can thank the Browns for helping the Bengals get up to two first-round picks for Palmer. If the Browns don’t break Jason Campbell’s collarbone, Palmer doesn’t get traded until 2012, at the earliest.8. Palmer’s decision not to file retirement papers made it easier for the deal to go down quickly, since Palmer didn’t have to send a letter to the Commissioner with a request to be reinstated to the active roster.9. If receiver Chad Ochocinco gets cut by the Patriots, his beeline to the Bay may not happen. There’s a belief that Palmer has had enough of Chad, and that Palmer wouldn’t want to play with him again.10. Terrelle Pryor’s career is now on hold indefinitely, unless he enters the game in a Wildcat package or plays another position.11. Carson Palmer eventually got what he wanted, without drawing much criticism. As others in the media have pointed out, it’s hard to imagine other players essentially quitting on their team to force a trade and not being called out aggressively.
This loss of draft picks thing is going to get too much play. We didn't give up all these picks next year for players that are here for one year, or 35-year-old linebackers. We just used all these picks already. Our 2nd rounder is Barksdale and Jones. So far, I am fine with this deal. Aaron Curry for a 7th and a 5th? Worth the risk. From a fans perspective I'm completely fine with a team making a move to better their team. As already mentioned Boller is not the answer, not even as a stop gap. The injury to Campbell had a chance of completely derailing this team and what they have been looking to accomplish. Hue recognized it and made a bold move with a pending deadline. Can't fault him for doing what needs to be done to be competitive this year. A QB was going to be signed as the Raiders were not going to head into the next number of weeks with just Boller and Pryor at QB, why not make a move that has a longer term impact (positive impact) than just signing another throw away player? Years from now we will be able to look back and see if this trade made sense or who it benefited the most. But that is a long time away. Right now I hope the reports of Palmer's health are true, and that he has been practicing. Much has been made of Palmer quitting on the team, and not wanting to play football. But if he has been working out, for free, with a QB coach and other football players, then I have my doubts in the stance of him walking away from football. There is a risk that he already gave up on an organization, but that will be one of the items that determine the 'winner' of this trade in a number of years. Looking at what we know... I'm happy with the move. And the moves that were made this season. Hell, even if we go back to the trade for Campbell, the Raiders have moved from having Russell, Gradkowski, Frye, and Losman as their QBs in 2009 to having Palmer, Campbell, and Pryor. I'm good with that. Even knowing that it cost the Raiders 4 picks. Big deal. That's what picks are for, to improve your roster. I fail to see the difference in investing the picks in players have have played in the NFL vs those who haven't yet. And furthermore, the Raiders have 3 players rostered already instead of having the picks on their back pocket... Now I'm really looking forward to seeing the Raiders play after the bye week... and especially when I head to Minny for the game!!![]()
How's Girllery working out for you, bro?Or Miller?Or Tarvaris?Pretty lame of you to come in here to piss in this thread when your team has never done anything in the NFL. ANYTHING!!!How about that 3rd rounder you gave up for Pryor? 1st, 1st, 3rd... OH MY.![]()

RE: 1st, 1st, 3rd....lolActually at 2-3 they are far exceeding my expectations...although not in a good way. I was hoping for 0-16. LEG SWEPT!please leave this thread. It's not the Raiders fault the seahawks blow and the Cable/Gallery/Miller signings are blowing up in your face.
It's a lot to give up, and I wonder how much Carson has left. That's what it comes down to for me. Can he be a Super Bowl caliber QB for 4 years? Then I am fine with the deal. It's a QB league, you have to have one. He didn't look great his last year or so in Cincy. I am concerned about his overall health. Real concerned.
100 % agree. The optimist in me hopes maybe he isn't washed up and can find that touch again with Hue, but right now
You didn't answer his question:Happy with Gallery? Miller? Enjoying watching the Raider O-line this year?Do you daydream a lot? Like, I mean, do you daydream about having a decent running back? Or offensive line? Or not having to wear a helmet to the 'special' school mommy drops you off at? (don't spill your juice box!)Been to the superbowl more recently then the raiders. Thanks. Palmer is a Bay Area guy, I think he has got to be stoked.I agree no picks until the 5th is rough, my guess is we won't be in that situation, however. Three comp picks coming from Aso, Gallery, and Miller. As an outsider (I'm a Pats fan) my first thought was that it was nuts to trade a first rounder and maybe two first rounders for Palmer. He just hasn't looked the same the past few years...But as I've thought more about it, I admire the Raiders and Hue going for it now. Cincy was a HORRIBLE situation, and from all accounts, Palmer is a great guy and a great teammate. The Raiders are young, he could be extremely valuable as a locker room leader. So far this year, things seem to have fallen into place, and I think they have a genuine shot to win the AFC West. Do I think they beat a team like the Pats or Ravens in the playoffs? No. But they could definitely get past the wild card weekend. Add a full offseason next year with Palmer during minicamp, OTA's, etc, etc, and they could potentially be a genuine contender. No picks until the fifth is rough though. Good luck guys, I do hope you do well, always good to see the silver and black actually winning games.

We don't know yet. The system the NFL uses to assign them is a bit of a mystery. I am going to do a bit of research on this, there's a guy that posts at KFFL, and he is the closest thing any message board has to an expert.Ah, I wasn't aware of that. I've asked this question many times. The formula is a function of net free agents lost, salary terms and playing time I believe. I'm not sure about the playing time part or if there is also a stats-based component. But I know you have to have a net loss overall and that in general there is a big black box at work with these picks. There was a thread on this board years ago that had a link to a guy who would with decent accuracy predict the compensatory picks. If you can find that, I bet it would lead to some answers. We don't know yet. The system the NFL uses to assign them is a bit of a mystery. It was a terrible trade, IMO. But one way to look at the lack of draft picks is the money that would be spent on the picks can now go to a couple high end free agents. One thing about the draft picks is that we have a very young team, especially on offense. Look at our WR corps and our O-line. Full of young guys and upside. We also do not have any glaring holes anymore. I feel bad for Campbell. He was playing well. However, I think Palmer can play at a higher level than Campbell can and if he does then the deal is well worth it.
Here is a link to his blog: http://adamjt13.blogspot.com/2010/03/projecting-2010-compensatory-nfl-draft.htmlHis name is AdamJT13, he used to post at KFFL, where I used to post quite a bit. Do a search for his name, his stuff has been linked here by myself and others. He is incredibly accurate on his predictions. As I said, salary per year is the main ingredient in deciding the comp picks. Here's a meaty comment from his long blog post linked above:I've asked this question many times. The formula is a function of net free agents lost, salary terms and playing time I believe. I'm not sure about the playing time part or if there is also a stats-based component. This was based on the 2010 comp picks, so we are talking about 2 years later, those salary cutoff points are going to be higher. Nnamdi is a lock for a 3rd rounder. Gallery and Miller are the mystery. No one has Gallery's contract info, and we know Miller signed a deal for 5 years, 34 mill (roughly a 6+ mill average).A three and two fours is a possibility, and maybe two 3rd rounders (I doubt that). Worst case, I see a 3,4, and 5. So all this talk about no draft picks next April, people need to step back and take a look. Our draft next year is Carson Palmer, Joseph Barksdale, Taiwan Jones, Terrelle Pryor, Aaron Curry, Jason Campbell, a 5th and a 6th, and three comp picks. Ummm, that doesn't look terrible to me.Last year, regardless of playing time or postseason honors, the third-round comp players had signed for at least $6.5 million per season, the fourth-round comp players had signed for $4.8 million to $6 million, all but one of the fifth-round comp players had signed for $4 million to $5 million, the sixth-round comp players had signed for $2.7 million to $3.9 million, and the seventh-round comp players had signed for less than $2.65 million per season.
Now THAT was stupid from the word go. Good thing is that he is now on the bench permanently barring Palmer injury. How about that 3rd rounder you gave up for Pryor? 1st, 1st, 3rd... OH MY.![]()

I don't know... really, I liked Campbell and thought he was doing well but the one thing he just could not do was throw the long ball. How many times have we took a shot downfield and one of our young guns gets open but the ball sails out of bounds or is otherwise a bad throw? Palmer can make those throws. This is the type of system that Palmer excelled in and now will have more weapons than he ever had before.'Balco said:It was a terrible trade, IMO.
