This is a gift. Please don't screw it up....
To where? If the Bears pick Manti, I will ship my pants.
Yep, we missed Eifert by one pick.............er, what? He was taken after our pick?Pretty bad when the Bengals outdraft you....
Look on the bright side. Everything you said about Carimi, is probably right.I hope someone drowns for this.
I was hoping they'd trade down as wel, but that does not mean they didn't try or had any willing trade partners. Looks like many teams were just staying put. I would have taken all those picks from Minny but I doubt they'd give them to a division rival. In he second round, any chance Brown falls to them or are there a few other teams above them still looking for LBs? Heres hoping there a run on skill position players before the Bears pick at 50.I don't think Long is an awful pick. Had the Bears not taken him he probably would have been taken at the end of the first or early in the second. But it reminds me of last year when they reached for Shea. They could have gotten the same guy much later. This draft is so strong in the second, third and fourth rounds I would have loved to have seen the Bears trade down and pick up a third to replace the pick they lost in the Marshall trade. Now let's see if they can get Minter in the second.
You would thinkI just think it's important to take a guaranteed starter, with as few flaws as possible with your first round pick. Time will tell.

But that lump of coal has upside. Bury it really deep in the back yard and in a millions years you'll have a diamond.I now know what it must feel like when Santa leave's you nothing but a lump of coal.
Wait all year for Christmas to come, send your letter to Santa, and you get nothing but a piece of ####
that made my day, thanks.
Is that really wise? Flexibility is the key in a draft. A guy like Floyd drops in your lap or Eiffert slips down to you and they can't reevaluate the situation? Tunnel vision for a particular prospect isn't a good idea.Emery says the only way he would have traded down is if Long wasn't there. He's been set on Long for weeks.
That is all coachspeak. He can't say, "We tried to trade down because the guy we wanted wasn't there. So we settled on this guy." Every coach says that whoever they got is exactly who they wanted all along. So maybe they really liked Long, or maybe they felt he was the best option they had left. We will never really know.Emery says the only way he would have traded down is if Long wasn't there. He's been set on Long for weeks.
I agree with it being coach speak. What if Cooper or Warmack would have fallen. Was Long still going to be the pick?Emery says the only way he would have traded down is if Long wasn't there. He's been set on Long for weeks.
Certainly, no one knows what the future holds. And, while the only draft board that matters is Emery's, you still need to keep an eye on what other teams are doing. I would be curious to know where Floyd or Eifert was ranked on Emery's board?I think a lot of people are forgetting that the only draft board that matters to Emery is Emery's. We all get obsessed looking at what the Booyas tell us the prevailing wisdom is, but that isn't reality. If Long rated as really good value at 20, you should take him at 20. Its not a reach unless you would expect him to be there for you in the next round. Its fine to say trade down, but a) you have to have a partner and it seemed like EVERYBODY wants to trade down in this draft and b) If you think a certain guy is really good, and you think you know talent, you should assume other teams see it as well even if the 'draft experts' dont see it that way.
Basically, the Bears needed o-line help, and they got it here. There is no way we can tell if this was a good pick or not at this point, and we probably wont know for years. I dont know if Long is any good, but some help at guard is welcome and they seem to think Long could end up as a tackle, in which case this could be a really good pick. Or it could be a total bust. My point is there's no cause for despair.
To me this is the key. IF you give Emery the benefit of the doubt that Long is the best player than he should have either traded down or taken another player than traded up to the early 2nd round to get Long because I didn't see a single projection that had Long going in the first round. I guess it is possible that another team put a first round value on Long so maybe he wouldn't be there but I would have liked to see them take that chance. Why take a player in the 1st round (and pay him first round money) when he probably will be available in the second round?
How many projections did you see with Geno Smith not going in the first? The "gurus" don't know jack.To me this is the key. At least they are addressing the O line in a big way because that by far has been the biggest weakness on the team since 2006.Why take a player in the 1st round (and pay him first round money) when he probably will be available in the second round?
You don't get it.I liked the pick mainly because I was terrified that they were goingto draft teo. Addressing oline until it actually improves is the right move. Until Cutler can actually go through a game without getting murdered our offense will suck. The only pick I would have liked over oline is a top CB like Trufant, and lets face it, not a need for this year. We should look at Jones in the second and Mathieu in the 3/4 area. Unless someone else can point out a clearly superior oline prospect still on the board I am fine with this pick.
A lot of mocks in the last week had no first round qbsHow many projections did you see with Geno Smith not going in the first? The "gurus" don't know jack.To me this is the key.
