*** 2013 Oakland Raiders thread *** (1 Viewer)

I thought pryor was a complete and total joke, to this point I have been surprised.

so what are fans thoughts, is he good enough to stick around? Or is this just making the best of what you have?

Love what I have seen and heard so far. From everything I have read he is a really hard worker who wants to succeed badly and win above all else. He has already improved a great deal so if he continues to develop he could be the answer at QB.

Hopefully the Raiders pull of an upset to cap a crazy week. (Who saw the hers losing @ home by double digits? The Gmen getting shutout? The Browns winning on the road with a backup QB, post TRich trade?) Everyone must play the game of their lives for us to even have a chance at the upset.

What the ML is on this game?
I have seen +850
If I were in Vegas I would $50 @ those odds, as a goof bet.

What we know to this point: Pryor has energized the Raiders and kept them competitive.

What we don't know: whether Pryor's work habits will translate to him becoming a quality QB that can lead a team to the SB.

He needs to improve on his reads and decision making, and his accuracy on the long balls to become a quality QB. For now if he can keep the chains moving and get to a 50% level of scoring TDs in the red zone, I will be very happy.

Tonight is a big test. We will see how he handles the pressure of national spotlight and keeping up with Payton.

I suspect that the week 2 game plan against Jacksonville degenerated into a "rope-a-dope" offensively. We had the game in hand, at a certain point went on auto- pilot and back to preseason playclock management. Not unlike Seattle did yesterday when the cleared their benches and put in Tarvaris Jackson in the second half. No need to give away the "tell" for the next week's gameplan. I suspect that some of the wrinkles in Greg Olson's gameplan have been saved for tonight. Those who judge the Raiders by their weak fantasy performance aren't seeing the bigger picture. I expect to see Olson turn Terelle Pryor loose tonight, and open up the playbook some more. I have a ton of faith that win or lose, we are going to shock the viewing nation, many of which have already buried as as doormats long ago.

Despite the score there were some positives. There are solid signs that Pryor is developing as a QB. He hung in the pocket and had a good feel for pressure, stepping up when necessary to avoid the rush. He also made some good throws from the pocket as well. The team kept fighting, even though I found their cover 2 late in the game strange.

Unfortunately they didn't do what they had to early in game to win. Too many penalties, receivers dropping passes and the failure to control the doomed us.

All in all some positive steps "for the worst team in the NFL."

Yep. I'm not as depressed as I should be. There is no shame in losing to that team by 2 TDs in their place. That is a ridiculous offense.

Hopefully defending other offenses will be a breeze by comparison.

Another interesting week vs the Redskins. The Redskins travel across country, RGIII is not 100% and their defense has been marginal thus far. A solid NFL team should win this game, however the Raiders are coming off a pretty good beating by the Donkeys and Pryor's status is up in the air. How do they handle adversity? Do they keep fighting or start to slip?

I would have felt much better if Pryor hadn't gotten concussed. Now it's likely we get Matt Flynn as our starter, and even though the Redskins defense is porous, they do have some D-linemen who can get after the QB. Flynn is about to get "Orakpoed" I think behind this O-line. Still shaking my head at the 3 point home underdog line. Really can't get any love from Vegas no matter who our QB is.

Black tebow is not the answer.

But since we are stuck with him, I want to see more wild hog, read option, full blown option, wishbone etc.

That cover 2 crap at the end of the game was horrible. Just seemed like an attempt to hurry up and get the over with.

Geez, what could Pryor have done better? I thought he was freaking awesome, considering everything.

not much. i'm not knocking the guy. but he's not the answer for the future. he's our best shot right now, due to his escape ability. but i don't want to see this guy next year as our starting qb. do you?

and since we are stuck with him, more running from him is the answer.

Bet your ### I want to see him as the starter next year. Would you take RGIII or Cam as our starter next year?

Look, it's been Three games. if he sucks rest of the year, I am with you. But geez, 4 starts in, with no blocking and no running game, I think he has looked darn good, and has improved from the first game. Be played his best game against the best opponent, and I didn't see to many mistakes last night. And I mean I didn't see ANY last night.

Colour me Impressed.

We will have to disagree then.

I am impressed with what he's done so far. That doesn't mean he's a stud qb that everyone should be excited about. Without 2 DBS falling down, last nights stat line would have been pretty bad.

Can he prove me wrong? Of course. Hell, I hope he does. But I am far from convinced he is the qb for the future.

And just stop with the rg3, cam, wilson, kaep, comparisons.

Besides the lack of a running game, he lacks receiver support. There are no etablished stars at WR or TE.

What got me excited last night was that his pocket presence and accuracy were noticably improved. He connected on several 3rd and long passes to keep drives going. Color me cautiously optimistic.

I am far from convinced too,

What I am, is impressed. Just like you. And I agree. It doesn't mean he is a stud. Him playing well also isn't proof that he's NOT a future stud. You know that, right? If he was playing bad, then it would be proof that Pryor is trash, but playing well doesn't mean anything? With this group of players?

No team does anything till it has a QB. We can have good drafts, plenty of cap room, blah blah blah. Doesn't mean a thing till the franchise QB is there to build around.

Up until this summer, I didn't think Pryor was a possible solution. At the end of the preseason, I didn't think he was a possible solution. Now, I am unsure. Two out of three games, he has faced a much better team, and started out with a TD deficit. He has played well in all three games, and IMO has gotten better all three games.

I didn't see one stupid pass Monday night. Not one. And he was throwing it downfield, not just checking down. THe kid looked good, on the road, no running game, outmatched. Good veteran QBs don't look good in those circumstances.

With all the guys on a one year deal on the defense, the scrub O-linemen playing, the last year DMC, Pryor is close to the only reason to watch the team. I am not saying that Pryor is the guy, and that's that. I am saying, so far, so good. And at the QB position, that's pretty great.

Just don't see how anyone can say he's not the answer. We don't know yet.

I thought Pryor was a joke, but I have been impressed. I am not sure if he can keep impressing or not, time will tell

hope he gets through the concussion stuff quick and is ok, concussions suck, but so does watching Matt Flynn. Pryor give me a reason to flip to the raiders games, Flynn gives me yet another reason to avoid them

Color me impressed as well. Pryor has proven to me that, rather than my disastrous prediction, he can create with his feet and his arm, and at least extend plays where in years past we would be simply be sacked for a loss. Don't get me wrong, Pryor has a lot still to develop, and every time he throws one of those 25 yard+ bombs running off his back foot gives me apoplexy. But he's hit his targets in this way more than force turnovers, keeping the Raiders competitive if not fully in the game.

Better yet, he seems to take on the mantle of leadership. In previous years, when we would get trounced in the first Q like in the Denver game, the team would completely deflate. We get punched in the mouth early and never come back -- worse, even try to.

Though the game outcome wasn't in doubt, Pryor seemed to elevate the team to still compete hard. That's huge to see. Also huge to see that we were able to put some points up -- in years past these games would have been 37-10. Garbage time or not, poor opposing D or not, it's good that we stayed fiery and were able to hang over 20 on an opponent and generate some scores. Gives me hope we can keep up with normal-scoring offenses this year -- which is not something I could have said in years' past.

I think it's worth nothing that Pryor is doing this with an unproven offensive coordinator, makeshift offensive line, and no true #1 receiver.

It's a tad insulting that the 0-3 Redskins and their hideous defense are 3.5-point favorites in the Black Hole tomorrow.

Hopefully the boys have a chip on their shoulder and play well on both sides of the ball.

Take the points, vegas is giving out free money. watch the line shrink when/if Pryor is cleared to start. I think we will win either way.

Already did. This team has let me down before, though. As you know. :(

As I wrote in the game thread, I have to question Wiz's play. He got zero push on that play and we have have been completely ineffective running up the middle allmseason.

One other thought, now that my blood pressure is getting back to normal.

How f--king BAD are the Jags, to lose to us by double-digits? That franchise should be contracted.

We have been playing relately good defense and soecial teams up to this point. The lack of threats is holding the offense back. And with DMac and Reece getting hurt, it could get ugly.

What the hell kind of decision is that? Down 10 in field goal range you go on fourth down???
Going for 4th and inches there is the right call. It's the tard QB's fault. He is USELESS.
Disagree that its the right decision. Agree that Flynn is useless. Will be happy if I never see him take another snap.
If the math to get you back in the game requires a TD and you are that close; you have to go for the touchdown.

Madden would have kicked the FG.

Raider D controlled the game for the most part but ran out of gas. The offense was embarrassingly bad. Pryor makes a huge difference. Reece and McFadden injuries hurt too. Flynn was lost out there.

Always double down on 11.

The math required a TD and a FG and they were on the 17 yard line. If it was fourth down at the 1 I would agree, but there is no guarantee they get a TD even if they convert the fourth down. No matter what you needed two scores and failing to convert ends the game, while converting still does not guarantee a TD. The risk/reward was not worth going for it there.

this game reminded me of the jags game least year. hopefully the team won't implode and suxk balls the rest of the way like they did last year.

and count me out as wanting either bridgewater or clowney.
