*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (2 Viewers)

Cubs offer is now up to 6/138 for Lester.

...According to sources
Wasting your time, IMO. I'm waiting for official confirmation of this from the Chicago Cubs PR staff and will not comment further until Dave Cameron tells me whether this is a good move or not.

P.S. - Thanks for not naming who reported that, because I don't give a ####.

It would have been about a million times better if Luke Scott came out
I don't think any real baseball player is close to Kenny Powers, but he's probably one of the closest.

He did hit well for them, fwiw:

Medlen and Beachy both non-tendered by ATL.
wow gotta think alot of teams will be all over them, no? Perhaps. I doubt the Braves would have non-tendered them if they felt they were on the brink of producing at previous levels... so there's that.

They're both about 8 months removed from their second TJ surgeries. The Braves have better medical data than anyone else involved so this could be a bet on the over for their recoveries.

Medlen is FA eligible in 2016. I'll be curious whether he signs a one (partial) year rent-a-player deal or a longer contract at a bargain AAV.

The Braves are apparently going after both, possibly on two-year deals, but obviously they're taking a risk.

With Teheran, Wood, Miller and Minor, probably don't have room for both.

I always knew he preferred balls to strikes.

Chatter about Lester to the Cubs ramping up this morning on twitter. Nothing confirmed at this point, but there's a lot of smoke.

Done.

The Royals resigned Luke Hochevar for 2/$10M. He had TJ surgery the same month as Beachy and Medlen.

Given the success rate from TJ surgery, this deal probably isn't too bad. Hochevar had settled in as being a pretty good reliever in 2013, if he comes back to around those levels, it's probably a win.

I think the Braves might have goofed here. There isn't any real evidence that it's tougher to come back from two than one, betting on a talented pitcher for a year and reasonable money coming off a TJ doesn't seem like a terrible move.

The Braves' curious off-season continues with the signing of Jim Johnson to a major league deal. I guess the price is right at 1/$1.6M but it takes up a slot on the 40 man.

The Atlanta Braves and the case of the curious off-season sounds like a job for Encyclopedia Brown.

seems like the right deal for him. Hes one of those guys that is a better ballplayer that numbers guy. But again another injury prone player.
:lmao:
yeah i have no clue why i thought that. Either thinking of someone else or just equated many years of being a fantasy disappointment to him getting hurt. I have no clue.
