2014 NFL Free Agents (1 Viewer)

4 year $28M for Whitner from the Browns. $7M a year for him seems like a lot IMO. The SF front 7 covered up a lot of his deficiencies.
Saw that the Niners would go as high as $4MM annually. PFF graded out his coverage skill as much improved over last season, but agree overall that he is overrated for his on field play.

PFF does a terrible job accounting for scheme.

Playing S is a lot easier when your front 7 generates a ton of pressure and your LBers can not only cover, but blow up the run game as well.

He's not terrible and the Browns have money to spend, but he's not an elite safety which $7M seems to indicate they think he is.

Rotoworld:

Cardinals agreed to terms with LT Jared Veldheer, formerly of the Raiders, on a five-year, $35 million contract.
Veldheer's signing with Arizona was one of the worst kept secrets over eval tampering weekend. He'll slide in on Carson Palmer's blind side, replacing the underwhelming duo of Bradley Sowell and Nate Potter. Veldheer is an elite pass protector and is built like the Hulk. He'll have his hands full in the NFC West with the likes of Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith, and the number of Seahawks pass rushers.

Bears signed DE Lamarr Houston, formerly of the Raiders, to a five-year, $35 million contract.
Houston will be Julius Peppers' replacement. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed, and $21 million over the first three years. It's a pretty penny for a player with only 16 career sacks, but Houston is coming off a breakout year, and is still just 27 (in June). Considering all the Raiders' cap space, it's surprising they'd let Houston get away.

so whats Oakland doing with all their cap space again?

Veldheer to Arizona

5-$35 million. Love the signing and price. Best overall OT available IMO

Then the Raiders go out and blow 5-42.5 million on an inferior OT.

@Rotoworld_FB The Bucs sign Brandon Myers to 2-year, $4M deal. Guess Garrett Graham is off the table. Blow to Tim Wright #dynasty value

Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones released the team’s longtime star pass rusher DeMarcus Ware today, but Jones said Ware’s days in Dallas aren’t necessarily over.

Jones released a statement shortly after the decision to cut Ware became official, saying that Ware would be open to coming back, and the Cowboys would be open to bringing him back.

“After meeting this afternoon, DeMarcus and I agreed on an understanding that would allow him to explore the options he will have for the 2014 season and beyond,” Jones said. “We were also in very strong agreement that playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be one of the options we would both be exploring.”

But if Ware is going to come back, it will be at a discount: The Cowboys cut Ware because it saved $7.4 million on their 2014 salary cap, and the Cowboys don’t have much cap space. It seems quite likely that some team that does have a lot of cap space will make Ware a deal better than what Jones can offer.

So while Jones may want Ware to remain in Dallas, there’s a good chance he’ll go elsewhere. Maybe soon.

Former Cardinals WR Andre Roberts reached agreement on a 4-yr, $16 million deal with the Redskins, per source.

saints lose Safety Malcolm Jenkins to Philly with a 3 year $16 million deal.

As a Saints fan, this is a little disconcerting. I thought he and Vaccaro paired up really nicely in the backfield.

What’s the deal with the LB from the Seahawks? PFT is reporting 2 years 8 million for some cat I have never heard of O’Brien Schofield. The guy has no NFL starts and the Giants him for 4 million per year?

49ers have 11 picks in the draft. They're not going to miss a 6th and Gabbert actually is an upgrade from McCoy.
Also, it will give Harbaugh a nice project to put some of the energy into. Maybe this is like Baalke saying to Harbuagh "here is a new toy, now go play and leave me alone"

Gabbert is not an upgrade from a blind and armless person. I'll take the blind and armless person everyday. Jacksonville should be charged with robbery, for yes, even a 6th.
