Absolute best case scenario played out there in the top 5.

Yeah I cheered almost as loud when Jax picked Bortles!
Great pick for the Raiders. I love the Mack pick. He was in my top three in this draft and I'm thrilled that we got him.
YES!! Finally, not a head scratcher. So far so good!! Hopefully woodley and tuck can mentor him and sio. What next? Qb? Db? Dl? We?

Man I would love a trade up for Manziel, but not likely. If they came out of this draft with Mack and Manziel I don't know what I would do.

QBs are falling.
I know.

I have to admit, I have a one track mind, and any pick that's not a QB, is a win as far as I am concerned. There's no D-lineman worth getting all excited for, OTs don't fall, so really the positions that SEEM to make the most sense for us are QB, WR, and frankly, TE. I would be pretty happy with Sefarian-Jenkins to be honest. The fact that TE isn't brought up more as a need baffles me. Rivera seems like he could maybe a Sheffler-type, but that's not a guarrantee. And he's not blocker.

Hoping for Teddy, will be fine with Carr in the 2nd, and would also be happy with another corner (Verrett?) or ASF at TE.

The TV guys need to realize NFL teams are not as high on Manziel as they are.

Could you even imagine? He was talked about as a slam-dunk Top-3 pick before he was even eligible. Glad that the poor showing at his pro day is causing this free-fall. I put more stock in his game tape than what he does in shorts.

Two years left in Brady's window, burning a 1st on a QBOTF with good WRs there, man, that's ballsy.

BTW, that trade down was good for us. If AZ wants a QB, do they trade down BEHIND Cleveland? No way. If they loved Manziel or Teddy or Carr, you just take him at 20 and laugh. They are going elsewhere.

Good points, but with Houston (QB needy) at 2.01 and Cleveland (eager to trade for picks) at 2.03, I wouldn't guarantee anything at 2.04 until the pick is up. The cost to move from 2.04 to 1.32 with Seattle would be worth the move I think...

Carr and Bridgwater left on the board possibly going into day two. I wonder which one may be left for the Raiders if they go that route.

I also wouldn't mind looknig at Allen Robinson, Xavier Su'a-filo, Austin Sefferian-Jenkins, Jace Amaro, Stephon Tuitt. Some very nice players left on the board. It Should be an interesting day tomorrow.

Oakland Raiders take Khalil Mack with No. 5 pickBy Chris Wesseling

Around the League Writer

The Oakland Raiders finally have a blue-chip talent on which to build their defense.

With the No. 5 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Buffalo outside linebacker Khalil Mack.

Mack becomes the first Buffalo prospect ever drafted in the first or second round. The Butkus Award finalist also holds the NCAA record for most career forced fumbles (16) and shares the record for most tackles for a loss (75).

He gained national attention with a dominant performance against Ohio State, racking up 2.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles and an interception return for a touchdown while torching tackle Jack Mewhort off the edge.

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock's top-ranked player, Mack is viewed as the prototypical edge rusher in a 3-4 defense. In the 4-3 scheme of Dennis Allen and Jason Tarver, he likely will be the strong-side backer on early downs, moving to a pass-rushing role in sub packages.

Having already signed solid veterans such as Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodley, Antonio Smith, Tarell Brown and Carlos Rogers, general manager Reggie McKenzie deserves credit for building a competitive defense after fielding one of the league's most talent-poor units one season ago.

For his next trick, McKenzie will have to come up with a franchise quarterback.
