The way I look at it is, there's a QB they want. They have 'their guy'. But there's no guarantee they get him. Schaub is the vet, the starter, unless he gets beat out by a rookie.

I figure all the teams have their guy. Houston is going to get theirs. Jacksonville, Cleveland, Minny, I assume they all like at least one of the QBs. But if you are Cleveland, and Manziel is your guy, if Jax takes him, you aren't just going to take Teddy because he's the next guy.

It's looking more and more like QBs are going to be there when we pick. All the mocks now will have Teddy falling to us, and who would have thought that two months ago?

I wish I watched these guys more in college, to have an informed opinion, but I don't. All I know is, I want one.

Bortles and Manziel make me nervous, I still want Teddy.

I like Teddy too. But I got a nervous pang in my stomach that Reggie will take Carr at 5. He just looks the part. Like Jim Drunkenmiller looked the part.

I don't know what there is to not like about Carr. Had a less than great day vs. USC, but has a better arm than the other three, and doesn't have the size questions of Teddy and Johnny.

Just going by the rankings now, I'd prefer a trade down if they like Carr, but the draft is a month away. The Texans could draft Carr. And none of these mocks right now has the top 5 right. Guaranteed.

Johnny Football could go 1 or 21. Bortles could go 1 or 8.

The draftniks all have herd mentality, one guy hears from a scout that this guy or that is moving up, and everyone adjusts. Then everyone that reads the rankings takes the latest ranking as gospel. Every week they change, and every week people don't even question them!!

Take a look at this chart http://: http://i.imgur.com/db0HWPQ.jpg and you'll see that Carr looks like a checkdown charlie compared to the big 3 (Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater). His passes fluttered and sailed whenever there was pitter patter around his feet in that SC bowl game. In controlled workouts and 7 on 7 practices, he looks like an elite QB. But put some pressure in his face and he's not the same guy.

Derek Carr played in a pro-style offense his first three years at Fresno State. To me if you really want to know what he can do find film from 2012. They moved to a spread offense in 2013.

Contrast that to Johnny Manziel who played out of a spread. I don't know if he took a single snap over center. Whoever takes him has a lot of learning curve to work thru. Carr is ready either way.

Third downs in the red zone and he fold up like a cheap carpet. I'm afraid that Carr is Wilson part 2. Also not feeling his brother always tagging along to rob his spotlight. He's ok with that. I want a starting QB to be his own man, have a little moxie and grab the glory while the light's shining on him. He ended up puking his guts out the night before his pro day and bigger brother fielding questions from the media in his absense. For his own good, he needs to tell his brother to step aside and make his own impression. I don't doubt his arm strength, size, mobility to be elite, he's got all the tools. He just needs to prove he is a leader. Apart from that awful USC bowl game, he's never won a meaningful game in his life.

I have no problem with the Schaub trade, assuming it doesn't impact the QB position in any way. If their plan was to take Tedy or Carr anyway, and Schaub is the vet bridge, great. If they don't draft a QB they like because they have Schaub, well, lordy.

I don't think that's even remotely possible, but.....

Manziel scares me too. I saw same thing in Evans winning jump balls over shorter less athletic defenders. Manziel has talent, but for what people are expecting of the Johnny Football legend, I think it's highly likely to underperform. He spins and looks up field like a running back far too early after giving up on his first read. He seems like a slightly better version of Terrelle Pryor. Pass.

Woodley played 43 DE in college. He's currently at the weight that Lamarr Houston was playing at last year. So we'll see how he transitions to playing with his hand in the dirt. Tuck is coming off an 11 sack season. I don't get how anyone can try to say he's on a downturn. Not with that kind of recent production. Penn is a turnstile I agree, but at least run blocks well. Not trying to shine a turd or be a homer, but wait till the draft at least before you damn us to 4-12 again. For my part, I won't commit to being better or worse than 4-12 until we see the post draft roster. Keep an open mind. Nobody is claiming this team is ready for the playoffs. Just hold onto your rotten eggs until after the draft to throw them at us.

Tuck had something like 10-11 sacks over like a 2 1/2 year span. I'm just a bit suspicious of him turning it on for half a season before he hit FA.

That could be true. I actually saw it the other way. By locking up the QB before the draft, the Raiders now have options with that 5th pick. They either take the BPA and start that building for the long haul or if someone gives them something they can have the flexibility to move out. I don't see how they can trade down if Sammy is there at 5.

Yeah this is a tough situation. I love Watkins and think he will be the real deal but how many more years do they have with Schaub? And if they win 6, 7, 8 games next year that may put the out of the running for a franchise QB in next years draft.

If the rumors about them loving Carr are true then I think they can drop down to around 10-15 to get him and add some picks along the way. I like that move in theory but it all depends on how Carr pans out and I am not entirely sold on him.

I think part of him chucking those passes up there was because he knew he had Evans on the other end. He is definitely a gambler though in general which is probably the bigger point. The guy is just a playmaker. Running, passing he just makes things happen. I think he will be great in the NFL, but we shall see.

Yes, and I think the trade offers will be nice ones. You can go up and down the consensus mock draft boards thru the 2nd round and find nice talent everywhere. Maybe even land Carr and extra second rounder. A lot of "experts' have said that the first half of the second round is really a typical first round pick.

If Cleveland thinks Brian Hoyer is the solution at QB of the future they should just move to Baltimore again. And with Gordon already on the roster, and him being quite possibly the best WR in the game, Watkins doesn't make much sense for them.

Maybe so but I doubt the front office looks at it that way. That is potentially a lot of money to put on the table at one position.

Doug Farrar had an interesting comment on Ross Tucker's podcast. Said that he spoke to Daryl Smith and Richard Sherman (both proud owners of Schaub pick-6s) and they both said that what they practiced against on game week was exactly what Texans did on Sunday.

Good time for a new QB and a new coach.

The bolded is incorrect. Woodley played DE in a 4-3 in college. So he knows how to play the position even if it has been a while.

Sounds about right.

I think there is a chance Schaub can rebound, but he might also be at that point where people just drop off. The way things went down in Houston it just became so toxic he has no chance of doing anything there.

I was surprised how poorly he played when he got back in at the end of the year though. I think for the Raiders to have much chance at all with him they have to give him solid protection on the offensive line. When he had that in Houston he did well, when he didn't is when the slide (which went back to the last quarter of 2012) began for him. I would hope for you guys's sake that Schaub is just seen as a 1 year bridge to help a young QB learn his way in the NFL.

I am not sure the Raiders made the right move. Then again I don't think it is a coincidence that Sanchez was released shortly after the Raiders made the move for Schaub.

Same story, different year. The Raiders have now traded for Carson Palmer, Matt Flynn, and Schaub over the last four years, none remotely a long-term solution or even a viable short-term fix. Schaub, 33 in June, was benched for Case Keenum in Houston last year and has a 16:20 TD-to-INT ratio since Thanksgiving of 2012. The fact that any team -- let alone a Raiders squad that should be holding onto draft picks with a vice grip -- gave up compensation for this player is utterly incomprehensible. Schaub has a $10 million base salary plus $1 million in per-game roster bonuses due in 2014. He's a lock to open the season as Oakland's starting quarterback, regardless of what happens at the No. 5 overall pick. This trade was a job well done by Texans GM Rick Smith.

I doubt Watkins gets past St Louis

If they pick from there, IMO there is a strong possibility they would also be looking at the LTs, Robinson and Matthews.

I think CLE is looking at those same players (maybe Clowney or Mack, too, depending on if JAX takes one of them or a QB).

If Watkins is a Julio Jones-type prospect (opinion divided, some think he is), than CLE would be able to simply take him with their pick, and not have to blow up several drafts like ATL.

Are Robinson or Matthews expected to be in the mix for the 1.5 with Watkins, Mack and a possible QB? Robinson has been surging up the board, and could get a top 2-3 overall grade. I've seen Matthews in the top 3-5 range as far as overall grade. In mocks, I rarely see Robinson get past ATL, Matthews sometimes gets to BUF.

My guess is schaub trade took away Vick's only better possible option. Once Vick signed, Jets cut Sanchez which they were going to do at some point anyway.

Ok, so you and your birdie got it half right. Remember you said the deal would be done on Martch 17. Don't get your panties all in a bind. It might be the deal got delayed because of the Browns interest, or more likely because Sanchez was going to be released. We will never know for sure. Let's just hope this ends better than the Flynn trade.

For the same reason STL might, Jake Long is nearing 30, no longer playing at a 4 X Pro Bowl level but still serviceable, signed for three more years, some think it would be best for Robinson to play guard for a year, Matthews played more RT at A&M and could play anywhere on the OL. Thomas is IMO the best LT in the business, turns 30 this year. If Robinson or Matthews (or Watkins) grade out top 2-3 prospects overall on their board, and it is possible that is the case, than it makes sense BPA-wise. Robinson or Matthews could be bookend OTs with Thomas for a few years and groomed as LT of the future (as noted, it might be best to get some coaching up on pass pro technique for Robinson instead of playing LT immediately). CLE would probably have the best OTs in the league.Same with Watkins, Gordon is great, one of the best WRs in the game, but Watkins probably would give them the best young 1-2 punch at WR in the league. Gordon might not be valued ahead of some of the other top 3-5 WRs in that he could be an indiscretion away from a suspension, so Watkins could double as knucklehead insurance.

Soulfly's Deep Throat source, for what its worth, initially had a short list of Watkins and the two LTs, no QB, and Clowney was added when speculation began he could drop.

If the scouts aren't sold on the top QBs, or like Carr about the same later, Clowney isn't there and Watkins or the LTs grade the highest on the board at 1.4, I could definitely see them in play.
