Young guy 2014 contract 4 years 14m

Old guy 2014 contract 3 years ?m
Is the listing of a contract you don't know the details of some sort of argument in favor of Jennings?

Haven't seen MJD's contract. I am gonna go ahead and assume there is no dead money on 2015, just like every other deal the Raiders have signed this offseason.

If more than 2.5m then why not try to keep the production they got last year?

BTW signing bonus for the Rashad Jennings contract is a whopping 2.25m with a 830k salary this year.

Clearly a cap unfriendly contract...

Do try to keep an open mind, guy

I am open to the idea that MJD could be better than Jennings this year. Neither one is breaking the bank, I don't really think one or the other is going to make or break anything.

I wonder if Mack is there, if the Raiders wouldn't just take him. Assuming Clowney gone, of course. We haven't really heard Raiders linked with Mack, but I could see him sitting there.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Raiders are "expected to agree later today" on a three-year contract with free agent Maurice Jones-Drew.
Schefter cautions that a deal is "still not final," but this story has since been confirmed by CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair and NFL Network's Albert Breer. Although it'll be a "three-year" contract on the surface, the Raiders have been structuring deals to essentially make them one-year commitments. Jones-Drew turned 29 last weekend, and may not have three years left in the tank.

This would be a very good signing. MDJ has lost a step but still runs like a shifty bowling ball. He is used to playing on very awful teams so he knows how to stay motivated through ugliness.

Reggies only glaring mistake this offseason was letting Veldheer go. There were a ton of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. He has signed 30-year old players that can step in immediately and at least compete until the draft picks can step in over the next 2 seasons. It is all about the drafts this year and next. If Reggie hits, the Raiders are in the playoffs in 2 years. If Reggie misses, he is fired and the misery continues. No pressure.

I think Mack is definitely in play, at least I hope he is. I have wanted Manziel from the beginning and even more so now, but I do not think they are seriously considering him. I have nothing concrete to base that on just the feeling I get. He might not even be there anyway. I like a lot of the guys at the top of this draft (Clowney, Mack, Robinson, Watkins). About the only thing I would not be ok with is Carr at 5 or even trading down to take Carr. I would rather take one of the bigger talents at the top of this draft than trade down, especially if a trade down did not net much in return.

Agree about Manziel. I think Teddy and Carr fit what Olsen and Reggie want in a QB more.

If the talk about QBs falling is true, I would prefer a trade down to 10-15, and taking their guy there. Reggie traded down a lot last year, and I think he'd like to again. Question is, if you assume they'd trade down, who is worth trading up for in this draft? Robinson? Matthews? Watkins?

It's a massive risk, if they want one QB. But if you assume they don't love ANY of the QBs, a trade down makes more sense. To me, Clowney is the guy I don't trade away, unless you are looking at dropping only one or two spots, and getting a ransom.

If they trade down to middle of the round, and get Ebron, or Donald, and get a 2nd? Sounds good to me.

I still would like to see a QB taken by the end of Day 2, one way or another.

DeSean is a free agent. 27 years old. Potential gang ties. Hmmmmm.......

(Back of my mind--Can Schaub throw it that deep?)

If Reggie Mac signs him, it will go against everything that he (supposedly) stands for.

Agree. Same as Pats signing Moss. Doesn't fit with team first aesthetic, character concerns, etc.

But for complete lack of risk? Have to admit, I would love it.

If we had re-signed Veldheer and Houston, and made EVERY other signing we had (minus Penn obviously), I would have considered free agency a smashing success.
I pretty much agree with this.
Me too. But not signing Jv was really really dumb IMHO.

What the frik, why are we signing this old RB, Maurice Jones-Drew? Should have kept the young guy, Rashad Jennings!!

  • Maurice Jones-Drew
  • Born: March 23, 1985 age 29

  • Rashad Jennings

  • Born: March 26, 1985 age 29
:lmao:

Thing about Sims, he supposedly wanted to be elsewhere. We'll see how much he contributes.
Man, I am so tired of hearing nonsense. Suck it up and act like a professional.

Simms could help, but if he has an attitude then they will drop him like it's hot.
Raider beat writers were saying his effort was up and down. Raiders were in no rush to re-sign, and he wasn't getting any sniffs, so maybe he'll be happy.

Like the CJ Wilson move. A lot.

Evan Silva‏@evansilva4h

#Raiders first-team D-Line shaping up as RE LaMarr Woodley, LE Justin Tuck, 3T Antonio Smith, NT Pat Sims. Should be strength of the team.
The D-Line is looking nice. I don't know if I'd call them a strength, but we got a huge upgrade (on paper) from last year. Hopefully the draft adds some more key pieces.

Don't forget McGee who they are really high on. He should be a nice young rotational player who will continue to develop for the Raiders.

Wait a minute. What has Desean done other than be rumored to have gang ties? I get that Reggie likes his choir boys, but the whole story on Desean is so full of innuendo it's hard to believe any of it. Is there a crime to report here? He's got gang buddies he visits in the penn. Gives them hugs and stuff. Is this a problem? Really? I want to know why I'm supposed to hate him other than him maybe being a jerkwad personally. I look at his pro bowl numbers and elite production and at age 27 it's amazing someone of his talent would come avaiable. He's be a huge upgrade to the kick return game. And the big reason he'd choose Oakland is the obvious homecoming ties. I hope Reggie somehow lands him.

I wasn't. Evan Silva did. I agree that rotational depth of McGee who is working on the 2nd year of a rookie contract is huge.

Unpack this for me. Why do you like him?
Vet depth at more than one spot. I am a fan of taking 3-4 DTs and moving them to the 4-3. I feel like it's a bit liberating for them, they get to slice a gap, rather than just tie up blockers. And playing in the 3-4 generally means they're going to be decent vs. the run.

Not a homerun, but he should make the team, and help in a rotation. Sims, Smith, McGee and Wilson as a DT rotation is no longer a glaring weakness.

Build the lines, and the backfield on both sides will look better.

Daniels is a nice receiving talent no doubt. The Schaub connection is there. But honestly, I see a lot more upside in developing Rivera as our primary TE. Schaub is pretty accurate in the short and intermediate passing game and RIvera hasn't seen a passer of Schaub's ilk yet. Plus Daniels is old and gets broken down with injury pretty regularly. Not the kind of signing that will help Rivera become a prime second contract signing. I think we're good at TE, for now. Keep Daniels on speed dial if we get hit with injuries though.

Multiple Iggles teammates have come out in favor of the move. His former coach doesn't want him in KC. His team cut him outright rather than even tey to get a 6th or 7th rounder for him. This after a career year at age 27. You seem like a bright guy. Read between the tea leaves a little bit.

I will not get upset if we don't sign him, and I can't argue with the whole 'not the kind of guy we want'.

But man, if DeSean losing 30 mil in salary for the next three years scares him straight, and all he needs is a fresh start, we need to consider it. I'll give him Brice Butler's roster spot right now.

There's no risk..Pay him 7-8 mil per, incentive based.....we could use him.

I actually read KC are players for him, and Reid wanting him would say a lot.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000338005/article/desean-jackson-oakland-raiders-have-mutual-interest

On Friday's edition of the "Around The League Podcast," we all took a stab at DeSean Jackson's next landing spot.

Gregg Rosenthal's penchant for following the money has given him a leg up with his choice of the Oakland Raiders.

Prior to his release, Jackson put the word out to the Raiders of his interest in joining the organization, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via sources involved in the situation.

The Raiders were Jackson's favorite team growing up, per Rapoport. Oakland also is close to the wide receiver's Bay Area college roots at Cal.

The interest is mutual. Rapoport also hears the Raiders have been doing research on Jackson for more than a week.

That doesn't mean they will make a rash decision, however. They're still narrowing the knowledge gap with Kansas City, where Chiefs coach Andy Reid also an interest -- as well as five years of experience as Jackson's head coach.

In addition to the Raiders and Chiefs, "several" more teams are in the mix, according to Rapoport. Our "DeSean Jackson tracker" has all of the latest updates on the Jets, Panthers and Buccaneers as well.

Nearly 24 hours after Jackson's release, the Raiders and Chiefs appear to be the frontrunners for his services.

Makes sense for both sides - loved Gekko's detailed post last night about McKenzie.

Not a Jackson fan but this signing is logical.

Actually the Raiders could actually see the playoff race last year and people here were betting how few wins they would have. I do believe Dennis Allen is a good coach.

And I like the moves they've made. My biggest concern would be that schedule, three playoff teams in division, plus I see Oak has the Saints' schedule last year: NFCW + AFCE, including road games at NE, NYJ, SEA & STL plus add SF & ARI at home. That's exactly what NO had last year, went 0-4 in those road games. The Saints compensated by going 8-0 at home. And Oak loses one more home game, MIA, to London.

Any changes in the defensive backfield? And given the schedule how are Raider fans seeing this play out?

It's too soon to tell how far this team has come over the offseason. I can't overstate the importance of the draft. Depending on how that goes, and the emergence of last years first and second round picks, DJ Hayden and Melenik Watson being able to effectively man starting spots and immediate dividends from this year's class, the pieces are there to swing up to an 8 win season. As you noted the secondary is short on depth/talent and free agency is just about picked clean. It's the one weakness that the Raiders have to fix going into the season. I think this team definitely improved on paper, and so I expect a 6 win season on the low end and an 8 win season on the high end. Reggie needs to hit a homerun in the draft for the high end prediction to come true.

Schaub.

MJD.

James Jones

DJax?

Wow, nice offseason. Or not...paper tigers?
don't see how it's a nice offseason when you started with Schaub and MJD.
Man...the Raiders make some positives moves and they still get ridiculed ...bizarre to say the least
The tired ridicule is entirely framed out of context with McKenzie's off season moves. The proof is in the numbers.

per @PFF, the #Raiders got +55.4 on defense and +46.9 better on offense (than last years collective ranking)
